Shocked! ₹65 refund initiated by 99rpm.com for leaking engine oil can

Guys,

I had purchased engine oil for my Swift ZDi from 99rpm website for a change since I had heard a lot of good reviews from a couple of friends using the oil. The oil in question is a Petronas Selenia WR 5W40.

Plus Fiat themselves were recommending this engine oil for 1.3L MJD/DDiS engine so thought to get it since I anyway pay 2.1K for the MGDO (Mobil Super) so why not try something different this time!!

The only place this was available was at 99rpm.com website. No one in Hyderabad was having this oil.

Product Name: Petronas Selenia WR (Wide Range)
Grade: 5W40
Compatibility: ACEA B3/B4; API CF
Costs: ₹ 650 per litre = ₹ 1,950
Shipping: By FedEx Economy.
Order date: 23rd June, 2017
Delivery Date: 1st July, 2017

Link to the product: Petronas Selenia WR 5W40

As FedEx couldn't find my address, I picked up the package from their warehouse.

From the time of ordering till I got the package in hand, wasn't comfortable to get oil from "online". Was worried of refund or claims later. Reached home and opened the package in excitement and my worries were changed into reality.

One of the three bottles ordered were leaking. Instantly shot an email to 99rpm (email: sales@99rpm.com).

No response from them even after I sent them multiple reminders from 2nd July, 2017 (1 remainder email a day). Lost hope and thought of getting something else and going ahead with the service. So did a last try and sent them another email yesterday night. Got a reply today morning at 09:26 saying:

"Refund initiated against my order. Please check email for further details!"

Checked Gmail and a reply with refund details were furnished. I was nothing but shocked reading the refund email. I quote the email:

Quote:
We regret the inconvenience caused, A refund of Rs 65 has been initiated to payment gateway for upto 100ml of oil. If you believe the leaked quantity is higher than 100ml please inform us.. Leaked oil which is collected in poly bag is non-contaminated and safe for use.
Attaching the screenshot of the email I received:

I read that email 3 to 4 times to believe what was written in that.

This is the worst thing regarding refunds I have ever faced in all of the online shopping ever done. I am actually speechless as what is to be replied to these guys sitting behind that computer desk and deciding on the refund terms. This experience instills the thought in my mind firmly that oil etc must be bought at the shop or through some dealer etc and NOT go online.

Anurag, when you shared those details over chat, I simply burst out laughing. Couldn't believe that in this day and age of customer satisfaction, someone would actually come up with that sort of compensation.

My first experience with buying liquids online was with STP diesel treatment that I purchased from ebay India. For some reason, ebay India sellers do not care for their reputation measure and neither did the distributor for STP products in India. When I received the 3 bottles of diesel additive, 2 out of the 3 bottles had leaked into the cardboard box. However, after a few phone calls back and forth, I was given a replacement for 2 and another was added in as a goodwill measure.

All my recent purchases for engine oil as well as other useful lubricants have been on Amazon and all have been positive experiences.

The guys at 99rpm seem to be on the verge of a shutdown with the advent of big billion dollars flowing in from the likes of Amazon and Flipkart.

I am shocked to say the least. This is very unprofessional of 99rpm.

At first glance, it seemed as if these idiots had used the auto reply feature. What kind of a joke is this? Rs.65 for 100ml of leaked oil?

Make sure you reach out to the higher ups and keep us updated about the same sir. I have always been averse to buying parts online, especially in India. My dad simply doesn't agree when I ask him to shop online for parts. Doesn't your service centre sell oil over the counter?

BTW, on a lighter note, why don't you tell them that 1,000mL of oil has leaked out? Might just do the trick for you.

Sorry for the experience which you had, but the reply by 99rpm guys made my day. I literally burst out laughing, never knew such forms of compensation existed in this day and age.

IIRC, this is the second bad experience you had, after that Delvac debacle, when the product was listed as available, but they refunded your amount back citing its out of stock. Looks like FIAT's pathetic attitude has made its way to 99rpm headquarters too.

65 Rs compensation after multiple emails for 100 ml leaked oil

I always had good experience with buying Engine oil from Amazon India. Good packaging and prompt delivery.

There is only one person running the show, seemingly. A FIAT enthusiast based out of Noida. I have bought from them many many times and the customer service responses are borderline gruff, arrogant and/or silly! I buy oils from Amazon, they have disclaimers on oil: NOT RETURNABLE. Luckily I have never had gross experiences with either 99rpm or Amazon. There is another thread where a sealed pack was not delivered and the user was asked to "TRUST" them. Move on if in a hurry! Its not worth fighting with them; their intentions may be clear and honest, catering to FIAT people, but its no Flipkart or whatever.

Damn. Looks like i got lucky with my order of the mobil delvac synth a few days back.

They charge a flat shipping and handling fee of 150 bucks for the first product. And then an additional 15 for the next in the same order.

After placing the order and paying, i realized within half hour I needed castrol coolant as well. They had it in stock. I emailed asking if they could modify the order at their end to include castrol and I could make another payment for it.

Mobil was delivered in impeccable condition.

My email for additional business is still unanswered.

What are you complaining about?
1 litre is Rs. 650, so 100 ml is Rs.65. If you inform them that 110 ml has leaked, I'm sure they'll refund Rs.71.50 as promised.

Anurag, you should know that I choked on a chicken piece while reading your saga.

I got a hint of their arrogance before placing my first order itself. Never bothered to open the site again!

It's evident from the below conversation (of mine) that money is their primary motive, and not customer satisfaction. Your case is even worse and seals my belief about these guys.

Attaching the conversation I had -

Funny thing!

On a serious note, write to them to take back the leaking container, along with '100 ml of non-contaminated' oil collected in the polybag and to send a replacement. Let's see how they respond on what should have been the logical solution.
Regards.

All Fiat showrooms stock these oils and sell them OTC. Heck this was my fiat fluid collection all bought from the showroom. I could get much better engine oil outside but everything else, Fiat fluids are superior.

The outer cover was intact right? which means even the leaked oil is perfectly usable. On top of this you got 65rs back. Ordering fluids online is always a risk. There have been previous complaints her as well about fluids shipped from 99RPM reached in a leaky state. They have improved and send bottles now in sealed bags so that even the leaked contents are usable.

PS: I'm not supporting 99RPM, I stopped ordering from them long ago for various reasons, including shoddy customer service similar to Crazy Driver's experience. In this case however, in my opinion this level of expressed shock seems a bit excessive.

I had bad experience with 99rpm too. if you are lucky then you will get a reply and that to as if they were doing a huge favour to even respond to your mail. Ordered a simple part for my Punto and it took them a month to cancel and refund my money. Got the same part within a week from the ASC and even cheaper compared to them. First they don't respond or inform you if the part is in stock or not. Then after waiting for a while if it does not arrive, you mail them followed by a reply that they don't have it in stock and if you want early then prove if your vehicle is VOR and why. Then they might consider in trying to get the part in a months time.

So I bought a couple of liters of transmission fluid for a friend today. I went there on a bike, they didn't ask me any proof of owning a fiat. Asked them for the oil, they billed it immediately, I paid and that was that.

Buying stuff from Fiat showrooms is THIS EASY. Unless you try you never know.

Burst out laughing..!!

I remember similar incident happening with me.
I had ordered 2 cans of WD-40 from Amazon. Firstly, they were delivered 15 days late than promised/estimated by amazon; secondly, the packaging was very bad. They were packed in a single card box, which was not handled very well while transportation. Probably there was pressure on the upper side of the cans resulting in the caps breaking and WD-40 being sprayed out. When the package arrived, the cans were almost 70-80% empty.

Immediately wrote back to the seller, below is his response.
