If my memory is right Terminal 15 is your ignition terminal, Terminal 50 is your starter motor terminal, Terminal 30 is your glowplug terminal etc.

Re: VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System) for VW & Skoda - Discussion Thread

Hello everyone,

I am looking to invest in a VCDS since practically all my cars are from the VAG stable. I obviously have two choices - buy a copy from AliExpress which will cost be around $235 (Rs. 15000) with unlimited VINs
OR
buy the original from Ross-Tech at around $700 (Rs. 45000) with unlimited VINs. Yes there is a more economical cable available with Ross-Tech for $200 (Rs. 13000) but that is limited to only 03 VINs. In case I change my cars (which I eventually will), I will need to upgrade the cable to 10 VINs or unlimited VINs which comes at an extra cost.

Even though the ones from AliExpress make more economical sense, I am not sure how trust worthy they are in terms of quality or functions. Also, since there are so many options available on AliExpress, I am not clear which is the correct one to buy.

I hence need help and advise on this matter and if anyone has bought one from AliExpress; if I can be guided with the link as to which one I should buy.

I think this should be good. Not Ali express cable. Good pricing and supports unlimited VIN. I am being told that the seller is also good.

Re: VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System) for VW & Skoda - Discussion Thread

so i was successful in activating AFS2 features (City, Highway, Rainmode) in the AFS 1 lights of Skoda Laura 2012 L&K. I think i can do it in the skoda cars with AFS 1. Especially L&Ks and VRS with Xenon Bending lights. The superb already had AFS 2 activated.

Any one interested can PM me

Re: VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System) for VW & Skoda - Discussion Thread

Guys, I am planning to pick up a new Laura. Have shortlisted a few in Kolkata, WB. I have already ordered the cable, but am afraid it won't reach me in time.
Is there a BHPian from Kolkata who can lend me the cable or if possible accompany me for the inspection and TDs and help with the fault scans?

I have just received my HEX V2 cable from Ali Express. Cost me $ 27 with free shipping. Working completely fine with latest version VCDS software 18.2 release. It does come with unlimited VIN. I have activated the needle sweep an hour before, using this. Unfortunately, it was the last unit available with the seller and I could not post the exact link. I can give you a similar unit's link https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Supp...ceBeautifyAB=0

I came across a few posts in this thread that the needle sweep cannot be done in stock instrument cluster of Polo. But I think the new model cars comes with updated ones as I could do it. Proof below:-

The link I shared in the earlier post does not work. Here is another one https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Supp...ceBeautifyAB=0

Re: VAG-COM Setup needed!

Reviving this really old thread as I am having an issue setting up my VagCom

Bought a VagCom cable and software through AliExpress.com and tried it out today for the first time hoping to activate the 'Needle Sweep' function on my 2015 Jetta DSG.

So I am aware that the initial set up needs you to successfully connect and save a port (which is the USB of a laptop) post which one can access the functions. I am however unable to get this done through any of the USB slots on my laptop. If I plug in the USB the LED indicator is 'orange'. Once the cable is attached to the car's port, the LED indicator shows 'green' but I get this error.

Now I am able to access the menus like 'Control Module', etc. So..

Select Control Module -> Instruments and then I get this error

I am unable to figure out the problem. Can anyone help?

Hi Epic,

I have not used this new version however you can try following if not done earlier

1. Confirm presence of this cable in Device Manager of your laptop/.
2. Try connecting to USB 2.0 port if you were trying in USB3.0 (blue) port earlier.
3. If possible try to install software and test on another laptop.

I hope you are using the same version of software that came with this cable.

Regards.

I saw something to the effect that some cables aren't genuine. You may want to check this aliexpress link

My laptop has only USB 2.0 ports.

This is what I think could be the problem. The software that came to me is the 17.8.1 version. When I installed it on my laptop and launched it, there was a pop-up of an update of the newer version which is 18.2.1 and which I updated. Last night I messaged the seller and on checking the description of the item, I found a note saying that the software should not be updated.

I have now uninstalled all software and re-installed the 17.2.1 version again and will now try it out on the car. I however hope this solves my problem.

This could also be a possibility but will know once I try out the 17.8.1 version of the software again without updating it to 18.2.1

Yes. That is the problem. These AliExpress cables come with a patched software and will work with only that particular version of the software. In fact, the vendors also give instructions to turn off internet while using the cable to disable the updates.

Mostly it should work if you uninstall the updated version and install the version that came with the cable. But if the updated OE software set some registry entries that the cable is bad, even after re-installing the vendor provided software, it may not work.

Hope the uninstall and re-install works.
