Volkswagen lists extended warranty plans

Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited, a subsidiary of German auto giant Volkswagen Group, has published on its website, a sheet showing prices for extended warranty packages for all their models.

All Volkswagen cars are covered by a 2 year, unlimited kilometre manufacturer warranty. Owners can opt for one of two packages for the extension of this warranty. The first package sees the warranty extended by 1 year or 80,000 km whichever comes earlier. The second package gives owners an extension of two years or 1,00,000 km, whichever comes earlier.

The price sheet shows the prices for the extended warranty packages on all the models that Volkswagen is offering them on.

Some observations made:
  • The extended warranty packages can be bought based on three slabs depending on the date of sale of the car: 0-365 days, 366-545 days and 546-730 days.
  • The price of the extended warranty packages depend on the above slabs, being lowest for cars sold in the 0-365 days period and highest for cars sold in the 546-730 days period.
  • The Jetta finally gets extended warranty. However, at Rs. 55,000 for the 2 year package for cars that are between 546 and 730 days old (year 2012), it is very steeply priced.
  • Service tax @ 12.36% will be charged additionally or as applicable.
Apart from the extended warranty, Volkswagen customers can avail of a 3 year warranty against paintwork defects. There is also an anti-corrosion warranty that can extend up to 12 years.

Re: Volkswagen lists extended warranty plans

I do not understand the 0-365 days block. Does it begin after the standard 1 year warranty is over as in for Polo GT TSI, by paying the amount of Rs 11686 + taxes, will I get standard 1 year plus another year warranty, taking total warranty to 2 years?

And if I buy the 730 days warranty, will it mean that the warranty goes to total of 3 years- 1 standard and 2 years extended?

Or have they started charging for standard 1 year warrant as well?

The slabs aren't about the number of warranty days included in the package. Coverage is mentioned in years/kilometers on the other two columns.

The slabs are about applicable prices for extended warranty, based on when you purchase the warranty.

According to the table, extended warranty is cheapest if purchased within the first year of ownership (0-365 days from date-of-sale of vehicle), and becomes progressively more expensive the later you buy it in your vehicle's lifecycle. All extended warranties applicable after standard warranty expiry.

Re: Volkswagen lists extended warranty plans

I had already paid for extended warranty (for 2 years) when I bought my Passat back in December 2011. I know that Volkswagen stopped offering extended warranty on all their models except the Polo and Vento at some point before December 2013.

Now, since my car's standard warranty has expired and it is in the extended warranty period, will VW honour the extendend warranty which I paid for when I bought my car? Or would I have to opt for one of their new plans after getting my original amount refunded?

Any advice on this would be helpful. Thanks!

Be at peace. Your original warranty contract will still be valid (same situation for me and many more on this forum).

Btw VW has increased the prices of extended warranty. I took my Vento's extended warranty (2+2/100k) at around ~11k INR in 2011, this was bought along with the car delivery. The same now seems to cost almost ~18k!

Phew! Thanks! I paid around 13k INR for extended warranty (2+2) when I bought my car. Now they seem to be charging nearly 67k INR for the same plan! An increase of almost 5 times! Madness!

Thanks a ton, Rajeevraj.

I recently purchased 2 years/1,00,000 kms extended warranty. All I got was just an extended warranty certificate from the dealer. Should I be getting a extended warranty booklet too?

Yes even I just got the certificate. I think that is the standard. Since i have a vento dsg, was worried about gear box coverage during extended warranty hence I requested for some sort of detailed terms and conditions. Then the person sent these via email.

Re: Volkswagen lists extended warranty plans

I recently got a pre-owned Polo GT TSI that's still under warranty and intend to buy the extended warranty. The RC transfer is yet to happen.

Anyone knows what documents do I need to present to the dealership to buy the extended warranty?

You just need to submit a soft copy of the RC. The dealership/SA will initiate the process on VW's portal, and you will have to make an online payment to the dealership (or whatever mode of payment your dealer prefers), post which you are e-mailed the extended warranty certificate.

I had very recently taken a 2 year extended warranty for GT TSI

Re: Volkswagen lists extended warranty plans

I had bought the extended warranty (2 + 2 years) for my Polo GT TSI around 2 years ago. So now the standard warranty will expire and the extended one is about to kick in. However what about RSA (Road-side Assistance). Is this part of the extended warranty or do I have to renew it separately?

AFAIK It is a separate charge. Pune West charges around Rs.4900 + tax for Vento TSi per year.

Re: Volkswagen lists extended warranty plans

OK. It's a little confusing since the original RSA came with the car warranty I think. I don't remember paying extra for it. I'll inquire at the dealership just to be sure. It's also time for renewing the insurance and now ICICI is offering RSA for an additional charge. I feel VW RSA is a better bet than the one insurance provides.
