This is what the OP is actually talking about. Not from a commercial, this one's from the end episode itself.

re: Waterless Coolant For Cars - Does it really work?

Hey that's the wheeler dealers episode I am talking about. Any one has used this stuff, specially asking our friends abroad.

Hi,
For an animated discussion, you need to post this in the 4X4 section!

Re: Waterless Coolant For Cars - Does it really work?

On a high-value, expensive component engine, it sounds as if it could make sense. For day to day cars, personally I wouldn't bother.

The online community seems to have concerns over its much lower heat capacity, meaning that although engine hotspots won't create localised vaporisation of the coolant, the temps for the engine may locally be higher. And that it is rather gloopy, which this http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31361 isn't.

Those who live where it never freezes suggest Redline's WaterWetter product makes more sense, mixed with water = this increases the heat capacity of the water, so making hotspots cooler and provides corrosion protection. But this link http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/200...%C2%AE-review/ reckons even this isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Couple of points:
Water is the cheapest, but not necessarily the best. Most modern cars do require a proper coolant solution which typically does raise the boiling point but also preserves the various components in the cooling system. It's only part water.

Sodium in not only used in nuclear reactors. It has been used for decades in the automative industry to help cool outlet valves. I believe early 1960 -1970 Alfa's had them, Audi has used them and I'm sure a whole lot more manufacturers have at one point in time used sodium in their valves.

Hi Friends,
This is but it is quite intriguing. I came across an ad for Golden Cruiser Coolant. It mentions a code that you can actually use to confirm the veracity of the product! I am coming across such a product for the first time.

This is best covered off by ACM's great thread/presentation on anti-counterfeiting measures. While I'm quoting the relevant part below, I'd urge you to click through and read his entire thread.

A solution that works for all Stakeholders:

Serialization when matched with Mobile Product Authentication Technology can be the most effective solution to Anti-counterfeiting.

MPA allows for Authentication via SMS using the simplest and most basic phones with immediate response at the Point of Purchase. It also provisions for 2D QR Codes that can be deployed for use via Smartphone based scanners that can engage the reseller channels for track & trace solutions.
