Just for information, the difference in selling price between a Black and a Go is just 400-500 bucks; and blacks are known to last.

Hi vigsom,

I went to the Amaron Pit Stop in chandigarh to check out the options for my Baleno's battery.
Place had all variants in 35Ah. The prices quoted there were a little more than the regular battery shops. The packs had the following specifications clearly written on them which was not the case earlier. I think this would be useful:

Amaron Go - CCA-338A RC-55
Amaron Flo - CCA-338A RC-60
Amaron Pro - CCA-360A RC-66

CCA- Cold Cranking Amps
RC- Reserve Capacity? No units mentioned, just the number.

I was not interested in the Fresh and Black ones so I did not look at them (now I think I should have checked the specifications on them too).
So does this mean there is a difference in the internals of the batteries? How significant is the CCA and the RC in terms of battery life in Indian conditions? Will a higher capacity one last longer?

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

Over the years, we have been using different battery brands. I still remember, when I was a kid, our Tata Sierras, Estate and even Kinetic Honda came with OEM AMCO YUASA batteries. We initially used to replace them with the same batteries. Later on we moved to Exide, then came Prestolite batteries in mid 2000s. We also used Tata Green battery in one of our vehicles along with Bosch, Amaron Black, Amaron green (Go, Pro, Flo) batteries in Sierras, Qualis, Innova, Sunny and Wagon R. Now all these cars have Amaron batteries in common.

AMCO YUASA - Japanese
Exide - American (now sold to Chinese)
Prestolite - American
Bosch - German
Tata Green - Indian
Amaron - Indian

After using all these different brands of batteries over the years I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed with Amaron green batteries. This is one well researched, designed and made in India battery. It definitely gave us a longer life than any other battery.

But please note, whatever make the battery is, maintenance is must. I regularly check distill water in the battery, I make sure there is no oxidation / sulphur residue on the battery terminals. Whenever I come across sulphur depoists on the battery, I clean it with water, spray WD-40, clean it thoroughly, and apply Vaseline or Liqui Moly battery terminal coating on both battery terminals as well as positive and negative wire terminals.

Here are few of my tools which I use to maintain batteries, check electrical system of all our cars and two wheelers regularly.

1. Schumacher Battery charger (Only use when battery is down)
2. Generic Multimeter to check voltage level.
3. Thimson battery hydrometer for specific gravity check
4. Alternator / Battery digital tester (If you know voltages and values of healthy, bad batteries, you need not buy this)
5. Continuity tester
6. Jumper cables in case of emergency
7. 2 liters of Distill water in spare
8. Electric tape (non adhesive)
9. WD-40
10. Vaseline / Liqui moly battery terminal coating gel

P.S: I disconnect the negative terminal of the battery whenever it is not used for more than 2 weeks for longer battery life.

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

So the Amaron Pro battery of my SX4 started showing signs of weakness after close to 8 years of not so regular use. Recently when my parents had been out shopping, the battery got drained out completely within fifteen minutes while dad was waiting for mom to return. However the headlights were on 100/90w lights with HID fog lights I had to go in the Celerio and Jumpstart the SX4 to bring back my parents home. The battery had withstood all the abuse. After charging it overnight it was back running fine but yesterday when I ventured out in the car for similar shopping duties, I noticed the battery was losing steam within minutes of running in accessory mode even though headlights was switched off. Hence decided its time to retire the battery since it had served more time than I expected and I didn't want another surprise someday. Hence ordered another Amaron battery but compared to last time when I went for the highest warranty version, this time I brought one version lesser, FLO since the longer warranty for me didn't matter now. But I'm impressed by the life of this battery.
I ordered it yesterday in Batterybhai and it was promptly delivered today with Bill and warranty card.

Amaron has consistently lived upto its reputation of being a workhorse. It has been my first choice since many years now.

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

Having revived 1 car battery from the dead, which is yet to be refitted and tested in the car, thoughts about a battery replacement being just another consumable are running through my mind. For e.g. an Amaron battery costs me about Rs 5700 online after exchange which represents about 1.2 tanks full of petrol in my car at current fuel prices in Pune. It's also less than the price of 1 Michelin tyre for my vehicle. If I doubt the battery I will just replace it. My budget for battery replacement is every 3-4 years. It does not represent a large expense for a vehicle owner in the bigger scheme of things. And the batteries on both cars have served for 3.25 years already. However, COVID has obviously affected my use of the cars and would have impacted battery life. I would prefer to replace the battery than get stranded someplace inconvenient.

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

Good evening everyone, I need to change the battery of my 2017 Toyota Fortuner. Any recommendations for the brands to look at? I have been suggested to look at an Exide Win80 battery, wanted to know if I could gather some insight about this or if I should look at something else.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

What are your suggestions for a battery change for my Honda City petrol CVT. Car was sitting idle during the lock down and had to be jump started once. But now it's working fine. Had been to service and they said battery was weak and would need to be replaced. I've been running the car in the evenings with headlights on and music playing almost 20 kms every day for past month ever since lock down eased and also took it on an outstation 700 kms round trip and it started without a hiccup. Car and battery is 3.5 years old and it's the infamous SF-Sonic battery that's received consistently bad reviews on this forum. What would be your suggestions: Amaron has good reviews all round and what model of battery. Car has just crossed 20 K kms.

Firstly get the battery load tested at a good battery shop/service center. That will show you the actual picture. If the battery fairs well I think you can postpone the change else change with a Amaron of similar rating.

Considering your car's age & running, change seems to be a bit early. But it is quite subjective & depends on host of other factors too. Anyway, you may get it checked.

For Honda City petrol, Amaron Flo 42B20L works fine. I have been using the same in my 3rd gen. Honda City. I guess, it was the stock battery too.

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

Here are the battery test results of my Honda City Petrol car battery...Kindly advise...The car starts and runs perfectly, I need to know if I need to change the battery urgently or can it wait. I don't want it to pull a fast one when I'm on the road and get stranded.

Doc,

I'd strongly advise you to replace the battery; the report shows CCA at 146 against its spec of 300+.

You wouldn't want to be left high and dry at one inopportune time.

Two incidents involving two of my friends to support my advise:

1. Aug 2017 Honda BR-V - the battery died down due to prolonged non-use in the lockdown, and was charged back.

Battery was ok for 2 months, car ran one day for 36kms and the next morning car wouldn't start - battery was replaced with an Exide 38B20L

2. Jun 2017 Honda City - Honda service gave the owner a similar report in Dec2019 and advised a change of battery . He asked me and I told him to pull on.

One day, approx. 45 days after the report of low CCA, the engine stalled when he was reversing in the company parking, and the car wouldn't start. I helped jump start the car with my battery.

Battery replaced with an Amaron 38B20L.

I'd recommend Amaron any day.

In both these cases, the OEM battery has lasted just around 3 years. Is this the new benchmark? .-)

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

Quick check to see if anyone has had this situation, and found a solution.

Amaron Flo battery that I bought in Sep 2018 conked off this week, probably due to incorrect handling in this week's floods at my place (car door inadvertently kept open all day meant the cabin light was turned on) . I had no symptoms of a weakening battery until this incident. While surprised it's dead, I cant think of any other reason except for the cabin light goof up.

My warranty card is in Bangalore, quite a distance away that I don't plan to travel & no one to fetch it for me immediately.

Would a local Amaron shop still honor the warranty without the physical warranty card?
Would he be able to pull my details using my cell number?

I plan to visit the shop this weekend with my case. Meanwhile, checking for forum inputs.

Re: Which is the Best Car Battery Brand?

^^ I don't think the battery has failed. It has just got discharged.

Kindly get it recharged and see if it holds charge over, say, a week by just letting it idle (negative cable disconnected ). If the idle voltage holds, your battery is fine.

You can have your family in Bangalore send the card by courier or speed post.

Just have it charged at a nearby Amaron battery shop to check if it fails any tests. The card is mandatory for all warranty claims.
