Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

@Altoman, I am in the same situation as you are and have no more knowledge than you, so I am keenly following your thread to embrace myself for the restoration project that I MIGHT undertake.

@Dhabhar sir and other fiat enthusiasts, the car I am talking about is a 1986 Premier Padmini, 1089 cc engine, 11.5 BHP, 4 cylinder engine. With these specifications, I want to know the variant and what all should be done on the car if it has to be just road worthy, without any glitches often. It is currently in running condition, with some issues with the break, with some cosmetics required here and there

SORRY FOR SOUNDING LIKE A DUMB, BUT YA THATS WHAT I AM AS FAR AS MY TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THIS CAR IS CONCERNED.

Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

Hi AltoMan! So finally you have decided on getting the car back on road! That's a really great thing to do! And with Dhabhar sir himself guiding you, you wont have much to worry about! BTW, another BHPIAN and ardent fan of FIATs, Ilango also stays close by your area!

I remember you speaking about your FIAT on our Misal meet the other day and now this thread! All the best and bring her back to her glory days!

Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

Guys, first of all sorry for being late to respond. Been a bit busy with July end being the deadline for work.

@deehunk, funkykar, ACMohan, manishalive, Maverick5490, PAVAN KADAM, samsag12, HorsPwr, ObsessedByFIAT – a big thanks to all of you for a your kind words & wishes. I always knew even if I am a noob, I will be at home with help & wishes pouring in from members of team-bhp.

samsag12, - I have already saved your thread in my PC for my reference.

HorsPwr – good to know that we are in the same boat (or should I say soup). But I am sure that it’s a typo that your car produces 11.5 BHP.

DHABHAR.BEHRAM & funkykar – I had absolutely no idea that this project will cost a bomb (minimum 80k-100k). Dhabar sir, it is not possible to send the car to Mumbai. But I will contact the FCCI, Pune to see if there is some one in PCMC. Also I will be meeting a client today who has a very well maintained 1990s model to get some help.

ObsessedByFIAT – I can’t PM Ilango. Can we all have a mini meet? (will check the specific thread for your response).

Once again a big thanks to all of you, will update from my end in first week of August. Till then, bye & drive safely.

Altoman, buddy would like to meet you and see the car personally as well ( not that i am an expert )
Please invite me to a mini meet if thats gonna happen.

I would like to appreciate your decision to restore your car back to its prime condition.

In case you are financially constrained, you can plan the work in stages.

Had a 93 Petrol which i had owned for 6.5 years, had to sell it off very recently

The pics of car when it was new are simply awesome, thanks for sharing.
We wish you all the best

Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

Hi Altoman,

It seems like circa 2005, when someone offered to drive my Padmini S1 from Mahindra Towers,Worli to Warden road. He analysed every bit as he drove. I was taking notes as he said. He pulled over mid way opened the bonnet and checked everything. One 5 rupee item was giving me bad fuel economy. Fuel was still INR 43.55 then. Eventually as I dropped him to Parsi General Hospital, we exchanged cards and he mentioned 'please dont sell this car, I will help you in whatever way you want me to. An advice I didnt follow, he was ofcourse consulted.
Who the gentleman was, your guess is good as mine.

Moral of the story- Please carry a notepad and listen everybit carefully, you dont get to bother someone who re-engineered the car.

Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

Hey altoman, congrats buddy !! Good to see the restoration project underway. Looking at the pictures, it seems as though it is going to require a lot of tinkering, soldering, etc. Quite a lot of rust spots there.

Anyway, all the best, and keep us posted.

Nice to see the progress on your Padmini, altoman. The patching & replacement work seems quite nice.
Please do share some more pics, if possible.

Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

After a long time I have something to post in here. The restoration is complete. Here are a few pictures. Sorry for being so stingy for the number of pictures, I am not a shutter bug at all. I am happy and satisfied with the restoration. Thanks to all of you guys for your support.

I drove her for the first time. Boy it was such a joy. Finally I got to lay hands on her.

Welcome back MVM 9257 for a second innings.

thanks,
altoman

Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

Altoman! Nice to see your Padmini back on road!

However, some areas need to be worked upon. The engine bay and wheel wells. May be in next phase you can do it!

Re: Restoration of my Premier Padmini

Loved this thread. A pure nostalgia on the road, shining and like new. My first car was a Premiere Padmini and I still miss those lovely steering mounted gears.
Just asking, how much finally was the bill to make this beauty road-worthy?
