+1 LRL is now offering a package, anyone tried this brand?

I have a Skoda Fabia 2011 1.2 Diesel, been using Liqui Moly TopTech 4100. It has suddenly vanished from stores, available ones are overpriced, then there is a concern about manufacturing being too old.

Thinking of getting Meguin for my next upcoming service, any reviews would immensely help.

Current options:
  1. 1. Meguin 5W40 VW505 01 Link
  2. 2. Castrol Edge 5W40 VW505 01 Link
  3. 3. Mannol 5W40 VW505 01 Link
  4. 4. Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 VW 505 00 Link

Mine is an old car, does not run much (<5K kms per year), so was also thinking of a semi-synthetic with a good engine oil additive. Issue is, I am spoilt after experiencing a slight smoothness and lower NVH after TopTech 4100. But not like 80-90% like how others have reported. Do other VAG owners strictly prohibit semi synths?

My previous service checklist

I hate to break this news, but as per Volkswagen's Official Repair manual, the most appropriate Oil Spec is VW 508, which is a 0W20 oil, which I had earlier read about from Prithwi Ray, when he was servicing his VRS and the dealership had no stock of this new 0W20 viscosity oil.

On the flip side, the second page mentions that you are fine with using older VW Compliant Oils, but you'd not enjoy the same efficiency and emission compliance.
Attachment 2101519
For DPCA engine code (like T Roc 1.5 TSI Evo), engine oil is 0W 20 ( VW 508). Earlier VW was using DADA engine code. The engine with the code letter DADA is for use in accordance with the EU6ZD emissions standard and EU6AG. The DPCA variant, on the other hand, meets the newer emission standards EU6DG and also EU6AP. A fundamental hardware difference is, for example, the use of a so-called Venturi nozzle in the intake hood to increase the purge air rate for the fuel /Activated charcoal container in order to meet the legal requirements with regard to evaporative emissions meet.

Meguin is supposed to be rebranded LiquiMoly if I'm not wrong. About ₹500 more I believe. Not sure if it's better but could be.
I also believe Shell also has started supplying 505 01 spec oil to the dealerships. Instead of buying online, I suggest you check with a Shell outlet if you can source the same.

Yes, LiquiMoly has spoilt me too.

Nah, went to the local Shell station and confirmed. The best they have now is 505 00, Shell Helix. And another 2 new oils, with no rating mentioned anywhere. The oils are not even listed on their website. Pretty exp too, upwards of 5K

Shell Power 0W40

Re: Skoda / VW Group Engine Oils

Two different Top Tec 4100 5W-40W oils from Liqui Moly?
Any experience with the low-ash one?

It is the same oil, except they belong to different batches. The bottom can was fully imported from Germany while the first one seems to be the newer one made in Himachal, by Anand Ansysco, who are LiquiMoly's partners in India. I have seen both cans myself, and for my first year of service, I had procured the bottom one, while for subsequent services, I could only avail the newer one. The performance was just as good on both. However, Amazon is charging a bomb, regardless of what lot the two belong to.

On another note, here's the new 0W20 Engine oil confirming to VW 508 and VW 509 for the newer group of TSI Engines. Make sure you insist for this engine oil for your 1.0 TSI, 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI on your Polo 1.0 TSI, T-Roc 1.5TSI and AllSpace and VRS 245 with the newer Gen TSI engines.

Would the 0W20 apply to the 1.2L TSI as well or would it take the 5W40?

Where are you sourcing liqui moly from? I used to get it ~3500 mark for 5L.
And this new VW oil, can be used in a TDI? Or VW 505 01

Re: Skoda / VW Group Engine Oils

I have a 2016 Skoda Octavia TDI 2.0 AT. I would like to go for Mobile 1 and wonder which grade of oil is best recommended option to go with ? 5W-30 or 5W-20 or 0W-40 and also are there any major differences between them when it comes to be used for my car.

I meant 5W-30 or 5W-40 or 0W-40. Also how do I make out if my Skoda Octavia Style Plus TDI 2.0 AT is equipped with Diesel Particle Filter.

Seek expert opinion from all the guru's.

Hi Badrinath!

With a VAG product, ensure you use company specified grade of oil. Look into the manual. It will most likely be VW 505.01 or VW 507 grade of oil. The service centres used to fill with VW 505.01 the last time I went. But I have a feeling that with BS6 fuel, we can start using VW 507 grade. Need to verify this.

And no, BS4 vehicles don't have DPF even with Skodas.

There are only a few options with those grades and I suggest you to check with them. LiquiMoly is my current favourite ( TopTec 4100 5W40 VW 505.01). I doubt Mobil 1 has the required grade of oil.

Re: Skoda / VW Group Engine Oils

Guys,

Seems I have hit upon something useful to VW owners. I get this from NHTSA (
NHTSA | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, USA). They have listed VW compliance of various brand oils in the list. You could look up here
