Are we not supposed to use 5W/30 (VW507 compliance) in our Rapid/Vento which has better specs? I have been using the ASC filled Castrol during services. Now my Rapid (TDI 1.6L) is out of EW, would like to switch over to better spec engine oil. Cost is not the concern. Many are suggesting to stick to 5W/40 grade for Indian hot conditions & 5W/30 is for European countries (I doubt this statement). Thinking to switch to Mobil or Motul - VW507. Your suggestions please.
All, any suggestions where I can source the Skoda recommended 5W-40 1 litre can for my Octavia TSI in central BLR?
Ideally would like to buy Castrol just to be on the safe side.

I bought Castrol EDGE 5W40 fully synthetic to top up my Skoda Rapid Diesel from RVG traders opposite Christ University. Copying the link from Google maps below. Better to call them once before you go there.

Just bought the Castrol Magnatec Edge Titanium 5W-30 for Rs. 833 on Amazon: |
I guess you mean 5W-40 here.
Yes, this conforms to VW 502 00, which is a sufficient oil grade for the TSI engines following fixed serviced intervals. It also has a newer API 'SN' rating compared to the older 'SM' rating of the Castrol Magnatec Professional OE 5W40 supplied from the authorised workshops.

Many thanks for correcting the specs and clarifying the SN. I quickly looked on the Net before buying but could locate exactly what it stood for.

Just got it in impeccable condition and packaging. Manufacturing date also May 2016.
Looks perfect and a very good deal. Noticed Amazon had an offer on Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 for a low price of 817. Excellent discounts!
For diesel owners, please note the clear DPF warning in red.

Thanks for the pictures. I believe since Castrol Magnatec 5W40 isn't available in the 1L pack, thats why you went with Edge 5W40, correct?
BTW Castrol Magnatec is semi synthetic and Edge is fully synthetic, I hope no issues if you mix them as I also intend to purchase one and keep it standby for my Octavia 1.8TSI.
Thanks

Magnatec OE 5W40 is a fully synthetic oil.
Here's a pic of the 1L bottle which indicates the part.

Thank you for the pic. Actually I was looking for the 1 Ltr bottle online and came across Castrol India site where Magnatec is listed as "Part synthetic oil" and Castrol Edge is listed as "Fully synthetic oil" Hence the confusion.
I have attached screenshot for reference.
Any idea where I can purchase (1L can) in Delhi?

It could be for the 10W-40 spec. The 5W-40 listed in
Castrol UK's website says fully synthetic.
The Magnatec OE 5W 40 can be bought from the service center. Realising that the engines do consume oil during their daily usage, the service centers are willing to provide a 1L bottle over the counter. Do check with your service center.
Hello, i am currently using Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 fully synthetic oil in my 2012 laura 2.0 tdi dsg. Iam pretty happy with the oil. Can the same oil be used in the 2007 Skoda octavia 1.9 tdi rider too?
I juste called one of spare part shop for more information about available engine oil for VW Diesel.
I was enquiring about 5W40 grade which are approved by VW standard and it seems there are only two
1) Castrol Magnatec Professional 5W40
2) Motul 8100 "X-Clean" 5W40
Out of that he mentioned that he has Castrol Edge and for Motul he mentioned that its hard to get X-Clean.
So what is the difference between Edge and Magnatec Professional. Can Edge be used in VW TDI engine.

For VW/Skoda diesel engines in India that doesn't have DPF, VW 505 01 is the spec of the engine oil required.
Castrol Edge 5W40 sold in India doesn't conform to VW 505 01, but only to VW 505 00 which is an older and inferior spec.
Castrol Magnatec Professional 5W40 (originally intended for sale only into workshop channels, but also available in regular retail) however conforms to the VW 505 01 spec.It is better to use Castrol Magnatec Professional 5W40 for the TDI engine. For petrol engines Edge 5W40 could be slightly better (Edge is API SN and Magnatec Professional is API SM).
Yet another option for VW TDI engines in India is Liquimoly Top Tec 4100 5W-40. The same is now available in India.

Thanks for quick response. I went through the whole thread on VW/SKODA engine oil and "Mobil1 ESP Formula 5W30" stand out a little.
- There are some folks who do not recommend 5W30 for Indian hot condition.
- There are some folks who are already using it.
- It is considered better spec
So i am little confused should i use this going forward or not. Can you please also give me some feedback on this.
