Fiesta SXi - Central Locking Issue

Hello,

I seem to have a nagging issue with my central locking. The central locking on my Fiesta 1.6 SXi is supposed to work from both the driver and passenger sides. I notice the following strange behaviours --

1. Central locking engages automatically whenever I shut the driver side door (couple of times when I left my car for service the SA shut the driver door with the key slotted in; the car was locked and had to be opened using a ruler)

2. Central locking engages only when both the driver and passenger side latches are engaged i.e., central locking would not engage by simply engaging the driver side latch, but rather after both the driver and passenger latches are engaged. Same scenario with the passenger side latch.

I have tried to sort this problem multiple times with the Ford A.S.S, but without any success. My car is still under warranty, but because I have upgraded my music system (added amp + sub), they are not honoring the electrical warranty. They've simply said the actuator had failed and needs replacement (rs. 4000/-). When I asked then which actuator had failed, they don't give an answer.

I suspect they simply haven't looked at the problem in detail (don't have the warranty comittment) and are simply looking at replacing parts and charge me.

Any pointers on what the issue could be would be very helpful. Also, Fiesta owners in chennai - any good and reliable technician/workshop out there that can look at this issue? I'm planning to take my car to the Technocrat people who installed my music system.

Thanks a lot for your help!

If the Ford A.S.S. is not honoring your warranty, try escalating the issue to the Ford Factory engineer on his visits to the A.S.S.. (Your having upgraded your music system could actually be one of the reasons for this issue - the technicians would have fiddled around with the wires and probably caused a short circuit somewhere.)

From what you have described, the most probable cause appears to be a defective actuator - one that has not failed completely but is working erratically.

Getting this done outside is best avoided as the car is under warranty.

It would not be advisable to take it to Technocrats again as they, in all probability, are the ones who messed it up in the first place.

It would be best that you have it done through Ford either by escalating the issue or in the worst case, paying to get it done.

Re: Fiesta SXi - Central Locking Issue

central locking systems behave erratically if the earthing is not correct or if there is a current leakage. maybe you should check the wiring, or check if water has seeped into the actuator on the door.

Never faced this issue with my Fiesta. However it is true that central locking gets engaged if door is not opened in 10 sec after disengaging the central locking (mentioned in user manual).

However what you stating is that auto engaging of central locking. Which Fiesta doesn't have.

Central locking engaged only when all doors are locked. Try keeping any of the doors (even rear doors) open, central locking won't engage. Exception being boot door (I am not 100% sure about this eception). However when central locking is engaged you can not open boot door by pressing, electronic release button on dash. This is by design (again mentioned in manual)!

Try resetting the central locking module. Should help.

Does all the doors lock, when locked and unlock when unlocked in one try? If so, there is no problem with actuators.

I would suspect the wiring.

One Actuator costs 250 bucks outside.

Re: Fiesta SXi - Central Locking Issue

I think it is not the problem with the actuator since the central locking gets engaged when both the driver and co passenger side doors are locked. IMO it has to do something with the door sensors which is playing mischief. Or maybe the issue with the driver's side door lock being malfunctioning.

This needs to be sorted out by the Ford workshop and if they are thinking of ripping you off by replacing the actuator, mail the Ford Customer care. Do let us know how the issue is being handled and rectified.

Oh goodness! Finally I realized why my boot release button wasn't working. Several times when I went to a shopping mall and the security had to check I would switch off the car and open the boot with my remote. I thought the button in the car was malfunctioning. Let me just verify this and check.

Also, does the central locking in Fiesta make the beep sound when locking with remote?
Is there a switch for this?

It doesn't make that sound in mine but I want it to.

Re: Fiesta SXi - Central Locking Issue

I have an issue with the central locking of my 2010 model Ford Fiesta. The central locking does not engage from the driver side door (from inside)sometimes. Now it is happening 99% of time. I have to either use the remote or lock the front passenger side door. The door locks with key from outside. I had serviced the car 3 weeks back at Metro Ford quick lane but they did not investigate the issue in detail and asked me to take the car to main workshop as they do not have spare part to replace if required. They lubricated the latches and tried to solve the issue.

What could be the issue? I am planning to take the car to Metro Ford, st Mark's road to check this out.

Thanks in advance.

The issue was with the door lock. Got it changed 2 weeks back. Costed Rs 4300 including labour.

Re: Fiesta SXi - Central Locking Issue

I own a 2011 Fiesta classic and facing a wierd issue with the remote locking, which ever button I press on the keyfob (total 3 are there) it makes the car indicators blink once indicating door lock action!! I tried to open the door manually using the keys but it will not open but the key just keeps rotating.

I was able to open the trunk once but after that it also will not open, the key simply rotates Has anyone faced something similar or know what to try to fix it?

Currently I do not have the spare key with me, its at my parents place which I am planning to get tomorrow. Also my car only had central locking and I added the remote from the dealership at the time of purchasing.

TIA
