You should take a call based on the current situation. The beam should be adjusted keeping the low beam in mind. The low beam cutoff should have a drop over distance, and must not be parallel to the road surface irrespective of the load conditions. So if you have a car with auto leveler, in the default no load condition the beam should be adjusted such that on an open road, the cutoff must meet the road at the farthest point you can see.
On a technical side, there is a dip factor of 1% or 1.5%. That means the beam should dip by 1 meter for every 100 meters it travels. You can use this to adjust against a wall against which you can drive backward like a driveway. First park the car close to the wall, mark the low beam cutoff. Drive backwards as far as possible to a measurable distance. Mark the current cutoff and calculate the ratio. Adjust based on this and you will get a perfectly aligned low beam without affecting oncoming drivers and also providing you the most efficient spread without being too low compelling you to use high beam. |
