This is not good. Looks like Mahindras have started feeling the pinch of the warranty claims. May be some excesses would have happened in the first few months after the launch (parts getting replaced even when not neeed or when it was easily repairable), but that's between the dealers and Mahindras. The end-customer should not suffer in any way in this.

What was their counter argument? A puddle lamp assembly is neither a consumable nor a standard wear-and-tear part. If a clip breaks, in such case, its clearly a assembly or part-quality problem (which the manufacturer should clearly own up).

Looks like its time to read our warranty documents. In my organization it is said that "When you or the customer start referring to the legal-contract, things only go south from that point onwards".

There counter argument was that Mahindra is insisting that anything outwardly broken cannot be claimed in warranty whereas anything broken internally can be claimed. I told them this is a ridiculous policy since not only parts visible outside can be abused and broken in usage, and even if it is broken it only shows shoddy part quality and not damage due to misuse. I did not want to argue with them long on this point since I was getting late to office. I just made a call to the Mahindra CRM.

The Mahindra CRM did not raise this point (thankfully), infact he did not even dis-agree with whatever I said, he just contacted the A** and asked them to solve my issue to my satisfaction.

One question- Is the warranty date calculated from the date you take delivery or from the invoice date or the landed-at-yard date?
Warranty starts from the date of delivery.

***Slightly OT***

This question came my mind yesterday and hence thought of getting the answer from the horses' mouths...!! (pun intended):

The XUV is a very tantalizing vehicle, and there is no doubt about it. Also, since M&M has been pretty accomodating and fair in warranty replacements of the required part/assembly, its niggles too haven't hit anyone really hard.

However, how many of you would want to keep your XUVs beyond their warranty period on the basis of your ownership so far?

Feedback On Xuv 500

I am in the market to buy a SUV to replace my Ford Endeavour [2004 Model]. I am evaluating the Mahindra XUV 5OO. I shall appreciate receiving suggestions from XUV 5OO owners in this group their experience in owning / operating an XUV 5OO. I will be interested in seeking specific feedback on

1. Maintenance costs, including costs for the periodic maintenance service, prices of spare parts & consumables like Air / Diesel & Oil Filters; Brake Pads, etc
2. Stability of the vehicle in high speeds
3. Vehicle Safety
4. Issues relating to brake failure at high speeds & Frequent wearing of brake pads [The dealers are claiming that this is being fixed in the 2013 model]

I shall appreciate receiving feedback from XUV 5OO owners in this group

Regards

1. Left front window stuck in the closed position - The motor was replaced.
2. Outside odor/air coming in when the flaps are set in the re-circulation mode - As per RM this was an issue of flaps not closing completely and they fixed it by consulting with Mahindra.
3. Right side mirror rubbing against the door when closing
4. AC sometimes would only start after five to ten minutes of driving -As per RM, this was a software issue and they have updated the software. The problem has reappeared once in the last one month.

After I got back the car after service, I realized that the steering column was not centered . After few days, the left window was again stuck. Took it back, to A$$ and they replaced the motor and fixed the steering correctly.

After that I had gone on a 1500 KM round trip to Kerala and I did not encounter any niggles during the drive.

Issues 3 and 4 listed above has persisted well after the service. Over the last month I had faced following additional issues:
Viper System:
front viper - The sweep was not smooth. No water coming out from right nozzle
Rear viper - Sometimes water doesn't come from the rear nozzle.
Suspension:
Over bad roads, folks sitting in the middle row were been thrown around

Since Sireesh auto in BLR has always got a one one month waiting list, I decided to try my luck at AnantCars opposite IIMB.

I had asked them to check for steering fluid leakage also.

There indeed was a fluid leakage which was fixed. I do not think Mahindra would voluntarily recall the vehicle and it would be prudent for the XUV owners to go to their respective service centers for a check up. I had not noticed any issues with the steering and I am assuming that the leakage would have been be at an initial stage

My viper blades were replaced and there was a block in the nozzle which was cleared. Regarding the suspension, they have done a suspension re torque.

They had checked and inspected the AC system and were not able to find any issues. I will have to wait till it re-appears. They believe it is an usage issue and gave me a print out of an email from Mahindra which is given below.

I also felt this. It behaves well on tar roads where you run at gears 2 or higher b/c pot holes are not big and it absorbs pot holes nicely. But when road is really bad and pot holes are big I.e. you can not go beyond 1st gear, there is lot of horizontal movement and it throws people around. I am not sure if it is due to sift suspension or it is by design. Not sure what all they can tune in suspension. Is it possible to tune it little harder?

absolutely with Heavy Horse. Debuda's XUV5OO thread has been indeed very enlightening & I have been following it from the word go, though XUV is not in my list of immediate probables. Going through each post in that thread is a real pleasure. I am not undermining here the XUV ownership threads of other owners, but the passion with which Debuda's thread has evolved is really worth reading. Here is the link --> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...amshedpur.html.

There is one more XUV ownership thread, that of SDP, which has been penned with equal passion, if not more ---> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...uv-5oo-w8.html

Both these gentlemen have penned down their experiences with their XUVs without any prejudice & is a must read for any potential XUV buyer or for every auto enthusiast for that matter.

Before I answer this question wrt my XUV, I would like to bring into picture my Honda City. The car has completed exactly 8yrs a week back and we still love this car. Infact the plan was to sell it for purchasing XUV, but for emotional reasons we could not. Instead we sold off our 7yr old Hyundai Accent though it was a diesel car and City was a petrol. The kind of satisfaction City provided us through the years including the experiences at various service centres and the low maintenance requirements & cost just made us all love this car like a real family member. I could trust this car at any point of time and drive it with total peace of mind. Infact my 3yr old daughter still loves the City more than any of our other cars and she made us celebrate its 8th bday with a cake cutting.

Coming to XUV, i cant say the same. Thought its only 4 months old
its facing various minor niggles apart from the bigger ones like brakes, gear shifting issues etc. Infact due to this niggles, while going on long drives, I always have this small worry at the back of my mind if something might go wrong. Not something which is expected from a 15 lac car. Having faced the following cant say my worries are baseless
- Driver door power window motor not working and had to be replaced
- There happens to be some issue with the ignition system and I have to get it replaced
- Today morning my left front door power window is not working which means I will have to get it replaced.
- Wheel alignment still not perfect
- Steering tightness
- gear shifting issues especially slotting into reverse

Now will I sell off the XUV after warranty period. It will depend on various factors, finance being the primary one. Since selling of the XUV would mean upgrading myself to the next car segment. However, its great the warranty is extended for 3yrs considering the way niggles keep popping up. So maybe will use the car for 4-5yrs. Also have to consider the resale value for this car. Holding on to this car for a long period, like the Honda City, may not be a good decision unless Mahindra comes up with more reliable parts in the next couple of years. So maybe in couple of years time, I will be able to make a decision on keeping this car post the warranty period.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Came across another issue on the front windscreen area. Towards the bottom left of the windscreen there happens to be area of the black sticker which has a oval cut. Pls refer the images. There seems to be some issue with mine. When I checked with the service centre the last time, they also were clueless. Anyone noticed anything similar ?

Comparing it with another image I found on TBHP where it is proper.

This is a first time on this thread if I am not wrong.

From the picture it is not very clear what exactly it could be. Can you please post a high resolution picture taken with a camera?

Is that the glass sticking glue that got overspread to the bottom area? Or is it a real metal cut?

thanks

Looked like some sort of melting to me. I will get a photo in daylight so that it is clear and post it.

Abroad that slot is for displaying the VIN number. Not sure if thats the case with XUV. The "black sticker" is nothing but the "glue" (forgot the name) that holds the glass windshield. Looks like there was an excess of the glue before the windshield was fixed. There is no way that can be fixed unless you are replacing the windshield.
