Had been driving a Fluidic Verna with all wheel disks before and I feel that the brakes if not better were certainly more progressive or linear that the XUV.
Is there a specific way of applying brakes on large cars? Does one have to really be mindful of the weight of the vehicle and keep a good distance? (this is very unlikely since 2 wheelers fill up the blanks )
Since I can adjust so many variables inside the car like the reach and rake of the steering, the seat height, recline position, etc., is there a best way to get to that desired linear braking that I wish for?

Welcome to the club (of braking issues ). Well its a issue from day one. We all have faced it initially but i guess now we have mastered it. You too will get it over the time so dont worry. Maybe Mahindra never wanted their cheetah to walk slowly

It's so damn profound in cold start situations. I have mastered it already coz I moved on from the Scorpio SLE to the New Age W8 and the Scorpio used to exhibit a similar problem during a cold start.
The brakes had a weird bite and this has followed on to the new age W8 too.

I had the same feeling when I bought xuv after driving cedia for long. Brakes in cedia are just awesome at any speed. ASC could not find any solution for this. I am not sure if brakes improved over the period of time or I got used to it slowly over the last 3 years. I don't feel that doubtfulness in brakes that much any more.

XUV was left at Sireesh on Feb 08, 2016 for thorough check of the clutch burning smell problem. As the team was busy (as updated by them), they were not able to attend to it on Feb 08, or 09th. On 10th morning, I called and informed that I would require the vehicle that day as I had few travel plans the next day. Though initially they said the vehicle is not ready (yet to attend), later said the clutch assembly is dismantled and they are checking and asked me to reach by 5, though I insisted them to give the vehicle by 4, I could reach there only by 6. After initial discussion with SA Mr. Shekar (Marathahalli Sireesh), he said the clutch plates are in good condition, and he has 'washed' it with petrol and fixed it back and I was ready to take it. But the question remained, why the burning smell came in first place and also I am little perplexed because they said they did not attend to it on 8th or 9th and on 10th morning they said it is yet to be attended and by around 11:00 am said they have dismantled it! Still believe their words that it was checked.
I took the vehicle and left around 6:30 pm and there was heavy slow moving traffic. After around 5 km, the traffic was at stand still. I applied hand breaks and waited for around 5 minutes, as the traffic started moving, to my shock, when I was trying to slot the gear, nothing happened. I tried 1st then I tried 2, 3, 4 nothing! As I was in little incline I allowed the vehicle to move to 2-3 feet and tried again nothing! At this point I had to travel for around 10 meters and take a U turn.
As I kept trying to slot the gear, I suddenly realize that the clutch peddle is half stuck, not coming back to its original position I should be thankful to few of the members here and specially JeepSomeday

After nearly 1 hour of cooling and washing of the bay with water, Shekar and I went for a test drive to check on the smell, we followed the same route, that was taken by me earlier, though we were not able to reproduce the clutch getting stuck half way, the smell was getting generated again. The traffic was similar to my earlier drive. After lot of discussion he suggested me to leave the vehicle for repair on coming Monday. Yesterday, I had a family function and I had to travel around 100 km within the city, I used XUV to move around and in most of the trips I had 5 to 8 members occupying it, and had travelled around 4 hours during morning and evening rush hours. Though the smell kept coming (not bad as early) the clutch did not trouble me much. I would be leaving the vehicle for inspection again on Monday.
The vehicle is little more than 1 month old has run less than 500kms. It has been a disappointment start, but when he drives, he drives, that has been creating a stronger impression. Hope I get out of this trouble soon. My niggles thread is out before my ownership thread

I got the blower motor replaced on warranty. No issues so far.. Hope this has resolved the issue

Looking at the positive reponse that fellow BHP-ians were giving, I decided to again write back to Mahindra customer care (through their with you hamesha app) and immediately got a call back to understand the problem. Which was then handled by the local garage which promptly asked for a convenient date to send my car.

Later in a few days I sent my car to the ASS noting down a few other niggles which had been bothering me for some time. I had hoped that since the Mahindra CC has got involved, things will be sorted quickly. The first day in the workshop they spent fixing other niggles (or so they claim, I am yet to see any difference), while remaining silent on the warranty parts (as per my earlier post- interior painted trim loosing colour). They told me in the evening that the same will be looked into the next day. However, the next day they call me in the evening to tell this is normal wear & tear and not covered under extended warranty (however was covered under warranty- when I asked to show me which circular is given to them which mentions the same) he kept promising me that he would send me a copy but never did. No help from the ASS GM- Mr. Chauhan, with a similar response also acknowledging that he has consulted this again from Mahindra. I decided not to pick the vehicle since they didnt had a final response from mahindra.

Then frustrated by the whole situation I decided to write an email again, to some customer care senior executives and within a day I got a response from Mr. Kumar (manager, mahindra customer care Noida), wherein I was assured that he will look into the same. So the third day since morning I keep waiting only to be told in the evening that they have taken pictures and discussed and feel that the paint loss is on account of normal wear, which is expected from a car this age. I was shocked to realise that Mahindra is ready to acknowledge that the interior trim (silver painted door handles, hadn brake cover, etc.) will have paint bubble and come off to reveal nasty black trim under it .

So another day goes by wherein I am not returned the vehicle. The next day the vehicle arrives at noon (4th day) in the same condition albeit a TPMS L5 learning done (was pending since a year and took 6+ visits - I am yet to confirm it works). Had lost a reverse sensor, which I paid for and was replaced with a silver one on a black car (I mean how stupid can one be).

So in summary had sent my car for 4 days, for something that they could have confirmed on email or phone - "this is not covered under extended warranty!", with no one the wiser. I think even when I mentioned that other vehicles that I have owned have never shown such signs of ageing in even twice the number of years - Mahindra firmly believes that the same is not true for them, and ACCEPTS that their customers should learn to live with it!! Truly Disappointed.

Had a lovely snow drive last weekend (picture attached) at Narkanda and beyond but faced a big issue once I was back in Shimla.

The car refused to start - there was an audible sound from under the bonnet every time I twisted the key but she didnt start (battery wasnt dead). Had to ask a few guys to push it and started it in reverse. The same thing happened the next morning - both times it happened in Shimla.

The car has been running fine since then though. But why did it happened? Any issue with starter motor or something like that?

possibility of starter motor solenoid switch getting stuck due to cold. in that case you will only hear a soft "cluck-cluck" sound when you turn the key. the starter won't turn though.

I own a W10 which I bought in December 2015. Since day 1 I have been hearing this thud sound whenever I go over a pothole or sometimes when I cross a speed breaker diagonally instead of straight it is a series of thuds that I hear. I researched and have been reading about similar experiences from other XUV owners, however I noted that most of these are owners of the older models (2011 - 2014).

I could not find out if there is a satisfactory solution to this out there. I will be taking my XUV to the dealer this weekend but have little confidence that they will be able to diagnose and provide a solution. I am not sure if W10 owners have been facing this issue and would like to hear from anyone in this group if they have this experience on a W10 or new-age XUV as they call it and if it has been resolved. Let me clarify, that there are no issues with the vehicle or the drive as such, it is just the thud sound which gets on my nerves. Almost feels like a part is loose somewhere at the bottom of the car and it keeps bouncing whenever the XUV is subjected to bad roads. My XUV has run for about 1000 kms in city traffic conditions so far.

Would really appreciate your guidance and point of view. Thank you.

After 1.5 years of ownership there is only 1 issues I am facing. There is noise from everywhere inside the cabin. The rear seat if unoccupied vibrates, noise from dashboard, squeaks from doors though its prominent over uneven and bad roads.

I don't think any Xuv is noise free, and if anyone is lucky enough would love to hear from them.

The only solution to that is, "Get Used to it". Seriously, I found peace only by getting used to it, Mind you i get very irritated even with the most slightest rattle inside the cabin.

What tyre pressure are you on? Have you tried 30 and 32 PSI ?

Hi Rahul,

My Xuv is 1 year and 3 months old. Regarding the squeaks, there is an annoying sound from the instrument cluster - while going through potholes. And also, i can hear the passenger and second row seat belt buckles hitting the side often. Other than that, I have not observed any serious annoying sounds. Did you check with your service guys? But, please make sure that they dont create any new issues while attending to this one..

Hi Vivek,
I too was facing the squeaking issue from the instrument cluster after my Leh visit last year. The service personnel removed the top cover of the instrument console and tightened two screws. The issue is now resolved and there are no more squeaks.
Regarding the seat belts. If you keep the front row seat belts at the top most height adjustment level, that will resolve it. The second row has clips on the sides to hold the seat belts. You can use them. They work for me. Hope they work for you too.
