re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Anyone got their servicing done at a non-M&M service center? How does one get rid of the alert that shows up on the infotainment system?

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

My XUV is 1 month old with just around 300 km in OD. I have been getting a clutch burning smell whenever I take revere when parking at my home. Last week when I visited the ASC, they said that was due to my driving style (half clutch). I was aware about the hydrolic clutch system in XUV and disagreed with the SA. After some water splashing to the engine bay, he advised me to have it observed for few days. But the same evening, I did feel that the smell remained. Yesterday I left XUV at Sireesh Auto for dismantling of gear box and diagnose. Definitely its not the driving style. I never use A & C peddle together! Did any one else face such problem?

I have the same question all this while. Now since the 5 year warranty period is gonna end this year, i too am looking at getting my beast serviced at local garage.

This is the same old problem of clutch slave cylinder. I too faced this problem when, after getting a clutch burning smell, my XUV's clutch lever stuck in half way. In my case, I was driving in half clutch in a slow traffic while climbing a hill so I guess it was my mistake. However, ASC has replaced the slave cylinder free of cost under warranty. This was the first issue in my XUV after completing 30,000 Km in last 2 years. Hopefully your problem will also be resolved after replacement of clutch slave cylinder.

Good to know this. I once had this smell after driving in a heavy pedestrian traffic road. I thought i was driving on half clutch. Let me see if this is happening again and check with Sireesh Auto. Thanks for providing the details. I have made a note in Hamesha Mahindra App

Yes, this is a special type of burning, like burning newspaper and smells papery. If the problem is in the clutch slave cylinder, then it smells burnt of lub / gear oil due to leakage in the slave cylinder.

My guess is Brake Pads are one such listed at 40k. Ideally, the service center should have a look at the things and basis that only suggest a replacement. Unfortunately, what they really do is to just suggest a change with eyes closed!

The funny thing here is that somewhere at 18-20k my Bosch pads were changed to Galfer as the new design came in to stop that screeching noise that used to come earlier. So my pads are barely 20k old. I have never had any problems with the pad. Strangely though the Mahindra Service at Jaipur this time insisted that along with everything I need to change my pads as well. When I stamped my foot down and asked why so (and not just because your manual says so) they grudgingly admitted yes, the pad looks ok and may last a good while more but "it was our responsibility to tell you"! Go figure! It is their responsibility apparently to tell us to change something that does not even needs a change.

The owner's manual does not recommend replacement of brake pads at any interval. It only specifies inspection at every 10 k km.

It is tough to explain but there was a funny way the stock springs use to behave when you go over cobblestone kinda surface. With the Tiens, thats no more the case. The springs are firm and give you a sporty feel. When you corner hard, the lateral acceleration cornering force is for sure something that you will love. Am sure its around 0.80 to 0.85g. It corners as flat as possible. These just cost me 34K installed. These along with the Deiseltronic ECU make my beast a fun to drive machine.
Going to Coimbatore tomorrow to fit the S tech springs. Will update you guys. Stocks are available.

Hi, yes you are right. I have seen these lights working during motion, and am talking about the same - not in stationary state. Of late, I have not seen them light up the same way they used to - so I was wondering what could possibly have happened. Thanks.

Probably the sensor has gone kaput. Visit the service center and ask them to check by connecting the laptop to OBD port, which should throw an error if the sensor is the culprit. Also make sure you check the bulbs as well, if the filaments are in place.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Not sure why XUV is so prone to rats! This is the second time in 3 years , my XUV got attacked by rats. First time i was told that it could have come through the fresh air inlet and had been advised to ensure that i leave the AC in re-circulation mode before i leave the car. I had been following that religiously and didn't have any issues till few weeks back. This time rat managed to get inside the cabin and cut through many wires. Took it to ASC and they fixed the wiring issue but couldn't find the rat anywhere. Very next day, issue re-occured and once again they couldn't trace the rat. Based on their assurance that they have checked all places and ensured there are no rats, took the vehicle for an outstation trip. To my surprise, i could still see the evidences of rat inside the cabin (food items intentionally kept over night were missing, small pieces of sponges, paper thrown everywhere etc). Didn't want to take any chances and drove to the nearest service center and apprised them the story. It took them 4 days to completely take off all parts in the cabin in search of the rat. All they could find is some rat poop and rat remains to be a mystery

All this costed me about 12K and 6 days without my car. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that it doesn't come again

My question to M&M is why don't you insulate the cabin at least, so that rodents don't get inside. I was told that there are few vulnerable places through which they can enter (fresh air inlet, reverse camera hole etc) . Can't these be covered with a rat mesh ?
All this costed me about 12K and 6 days without my car. I am hoping that it doesn't come again

My friend's xuv (8 months and 10k on odo)had the same problem last week.He coudn't slot into 1st gear along with a burning smell from engine bay.Initially ASC refused to carry out repair under warranty insisting that it's fault with the driving, but after some heated arguments they agreed. He's totally upset with such kind of niggles within a year of ownership.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Hello all XUV5OO owners,
This is my very first post on Team BHP and unfortunately it has to be on the niggles thread. Tried searching this thread for braking issues on the car but could find what I was looking for.
I bought my XUV in Dec 2015 due to the discounts that were being offered. Mine is a W8 version and the facelifted model.
So my question is, have any of you thought that the effectiveness of braking isnt upto the mark? as in, it is not very linear. Whenever I apply brakes, I dont feel that the vehicle responds. I press the pedal a little more and still nothing. Then I press some more again and bam!! it stops in its tracks. This is especially in slow moving or crawling traffic of Bangalore city. I have had many a heart in mouth situations due to lack of this brake-bite vs
With speed however, things improve. Since the car has to come to a halt from a greater speed, I feel that the pressure that I apply on the brake pedal is more proportional to the speed retardation.
Had been driving a Fluidic Verna with all wheel disks before and I feel that the brakes if not better were certainly more progressive or linear that the XUV.
Is there a specific way of applying brakes on large cars? Does one have to really be mindful of the weight of the vehicle and keep a good distance? (this is very unlikely since 2 wheelers fill up the blanks )
Since I can adjust so many variables inside the car like the reach and rake of the steering, the seat height, recline position, etc., is there a best way to get to that desired linear braking that I wish for?
