re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Dear All, Thank you for all the kind words. That made all the effort worthwhile.

Here's my analysis of all the data:
  • Total 177 issues reported by 35 owners. That means average 5.06 issues reported by each owner.
  • 68 - sort of unique issues. 32 unique issues with more than one occurance. The remaining 36 unique issues are faced by only one owner each (so could be one-off).
  • 21 owners (out of 35) faced some or the other issues with the infotainment system.
  • 17 owners not very happy with the brakes because of the noise and/or the braking effectiveness.
  • 17 owners not very happy with the steering/wheels because of alignment, leakage and noise issues.
  • 16 owners had some or other sensor malfunctioning (Security alarm and TPMS warning going off w/o reason have been most common).
  • Only 1 or 2 complaining about the engine responsiveness and the mileage
  • Around 10 owners complaining about rattles
  • Umpteen number of brake-pads have been replaced. 1 clutch assembly, 1 right front suspension, 1 transaxle, 1 thermostat, 1 water-pump, a couple of speakers, a couple of steering racks, a couple of headlight units, 2-3 tyres and multiple nippon units have been replaced.
  • At least 7-8 newer versions of the infortainment system s/w have been released.
  • A couple of instances of vehicle refusing to start temporarily.
  • No full-blown breakdowns reported by any TBHPians, but multiple sightings of XUVs on flatbed-towtrucks. One unconfirmed report about a enire wheel coming off.
  • Only around 20 issues (out of 177) have been satisfactorily resolved. At the same time, most owners are happy with the responsiveness from M&M and A.S.S. Request owners to update any resolved issues at the earliest.

------------------------------------
If you want to report update on any issue, you can use the following list:

Great effort SDP! awesome!! Thanks for the collation and am sure all the current and future buyers would find this extremely useful.

Are you guys facing a similar issue? any solutions?
thanks for the help.
I faced the similar issue first in Front Right suspension then in Front Left suspension. Got replaced both and since then touchwood no noise except for the horn and music system.

Joy.. Could you describe your music system noise issue? Are you referring to the Fan noise from the music system which is annoying or something else?

As far as updates go on my W6. The door lock on the rear left passenger side has jammed. It just does not open even after continuous tries for the past week. Really embarrassing in front of the family members. Previously too I had this issue and they had greased it in the 1st service and it went off. Now its the time for 2nd service next week and the problem is back. Crazy.
Yes, same thing happened with me a couple of times. Last time, they did replaced the latch in the rear door & it's working fine since a month now. Please insist your dealer to get the latch replaced.

I guess he meant the noise in a good way! I will let him clarify on that.

@SDP, thats a great job you have done summerizing the issues and collecting all the minute details + analysis. I'm sure this will help all current and future buyer.
I guess we can accormodate some of these details into our PDI document and also create one regular inspection check document based on that which can be referred at regular intervals.
Thank you.

Guess you are right. I have an issue with the music system - Some "hizzing" noise from the center console even when the engine is not switched on (M&M says its a fan noise from the center console..).
I am hoping to get the suspensions replaced too (Rear suspension units)

Thank you.
"The regular inspection document" is precisely what I had in mind. My own XUV would be with me in a matter of a few weeks now. Rather than wondering daily about 'what is going to malfunction today', I would rather go through the inspection list regularly (let's say weekly) and keep a tab on the most common issues.

Outstanding effort by you buddy, but sorry to say - I do feel some niggles reported are simply baseless.

I guess some owners have becomes really paranoid now and are scouting for issues in their cars, just for the heck of it.

No disrespect to any owner, but from your list, I feel the following are not really niggles -

The summarization exercise was without any personal bias. So whatever has been reported by each owner is represented as is. I have shared my analysis (again purely statistical) in a separate post.

Whether a few of these (or a lot of these, as per you) are niggles or not is highly debatable. Some of these (like the operating of the cruise-control or the ACC) could actually be features and some others might be plain irritants (e.g. Dirt getting caught in numerous crevices or Passenger side seatbelt keeps on hitting the door panel).

My view is, if M&M actually starts proactively communicating about these so-called niggles/comments from owners - to the extent of explaning the use of some of the tricky features and giving a timeline for some issues that might need revisiting the design - that would soothe a lot of nerves and curtail a lot of negative publicity the vehicle is getting.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

This thread is turning to be a nightmare for M&M sales and marketing guys..

I got my first service done yesterday. They've updated the software and I can confirm that the Bluetooth phone call voice issue is *fixed* as of now.

I've also told my RM to smoothen the gear and clutch. I'll update that in 1-2 days.

A very neat analysis done by you. A big round of applause for you.
I for one am very delighted to report that ( I could be the lucky one )I do not ever faced 90% of the problems in the list !! 5% of the problems I faced are resolved and another 5% like the break shoe and the steering column touching the left foot don't have any apparent solution till date.

You are right. But the fact that we had to go thru all these in iterations makes us restless. (I did 7 trips to the service center in last 6 months - every time leaving the vehicle for 1-2 days). Hopefully they will fix some of the major ones & this thread dies a natural death.

But..

The combination of Ineffective brakes+Vehicle pulling to the left+Steering misalignment is actually a recipe for disaster - Not sure how you would categorize them as a non issue. I had this combination issue. Had a touch and go situation in the hosur highway during overtaking a vehicle.
