See the broken alloy in the pic? The post says that some onlookers mentioned that the alloy broke off while the car was in motion and that caused the accident.

Now that's a scary thought given that those alloys are from M&M genuine accessories.
Boy that looks scary. Maybe it hit some stone/pothole real hard that cause alloy to break? Not sure what caused it actually but yes it is scary.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Can someone confirm if the W6 model has MID or not? I cannot set the trip distance, Trip , etc. All I see on the Info screen is the average fuel consumed (Which is incorrect always) . Also, after the fuel hits 2 bars on the console it goes blinking whenever it wants to ! Is this common? I spoke with the Mahindra guys and he said "Sir when you get to 2 bars, do not rely on the Info bar and kms left option"

Anyone else faced this issue?

[Need feedback from the forum about which month/year onwards XUV has most issues resolved. I understand the car has consistently been upgraded to resolve the known issues by Mahindra.[/quote]

I think what he's referring to is the "Zero-defect XUV" which was launched in Aug 2013.

To answer your question Supertinu,
Although officially Mahindra claimed the zero defect XUV that time, almost all initial niggles were sorted out by end of 2012/ early 2013.
So you can narrow your search accordingly.
And remember you get a 3 yr/ 100,000 km standard warranty (extendable to 5yr/ 150,000 km) with it.

I would guess so. I did ask them about the sensors later. They said they have taken care of everything. And I can see that they did as I tried out the auto headlamps and auto-wipes. All are good.

Bottomline being I never went back to rectify that issue.

I doubt though that it can be the Infotainment Console fan. The noise comes more from the extreme left... somewhere close to the left A-pillar IIRC.
Could you guys be a bit more specific, I was hearing some sort of squeeqy noise from the left ORVM after it folds, so when I lock the car, I can hear the same for approx 5-6 secs.

Similarly, while starting the car, while the ORVMs unfold, the one on the left makes the same noise for about 5 secs again. Not regular though.

My XUV is on the 8th day at KTC in Cochin, I am getting every single issue being sorted.

1. Noise from the front left suspension area while on patchy roads : They tried replacing a few rubber bushes on the rad and still the issue is there. Tried even replacing with a 5K test drive XUV and did the test yesterday no luck.

2. Faulty second row seat which folds for the 3rd row entry. It took a lot of effort to get the seat on the locked position and the pull lever from the 3rd row wasnt functioning properly. : The seat has to be removed and if needed a new locking system needs to be bought. According to the service head it has been sorted, and was due to the springs/assembly which was jammed inside.

3. Hard Water Mark : Since it has been a real long issue. Mahindra has agreed to give 15% discount if I am buying the whole thing on cash. 3M inspected the car yesterday. They have a 1K hardwater mark removal treatment which they will do today.

4. Rear Camera : As per the service head, the rear camera which is on my car is the older one. and the new one is a lot smaller and of high quality. Will take his advice on where to keep it after my consent. Also there was something on my installation as my infotainment never allowed to check manually check the rear camera without putting the car on to reverse gear.
BHPIAN : gpriyesh had the same issue I suppose

5. Head Light Alignment.

6. Yes the countless, rattling, sqeeking which takes the pleasure out of driving. THey said they have checked the entire car in terms of paneling, fittings etc and will have to take it for a test drive today evening.

Just one curious question... I see that you have a 2012 vehicle. Basically of the same vintage as mine. Why this sudden urge to getting "every single issue being sorted"? I mean, I have seen someone who bought a new car is lot more anxious and gets worried about things lot more easily. But you must have lived with these things for long now.

At least 3 of the things you mentioned might not really be issue/niggle IMHO. That squeaky sound from the left mirror assembly while folding and unfolding comes at times when the motors inside suddenly go a little out of sync. Note that left mirror travels a little less than the right mirror. Sometimes the motor keeps turrning even when the mirror has folded/unfolded completely. That's when you hear that squeaky sound. I have seen this happens only once in a while for me. Do you hear the squeaky sound everytime?

Hard water mark. I don't know whether you meant that your car came with those marks from day 1! A hard water mark generally can occur if one washes the car with bore water and doesn't wipe the car dry quickly.

That rear camera not being wired to show what is behind was because during the initial days the accessories guys were not very sure of how to wire the cam to get its power when you touch the on-screen button. If they know that now it should be simple to get done.

@Zappo: Thanks so much for your inputs.
I think I might have to give you a detailed explanation for the same. Sorry if this gets too long.
My hometown is in Wayanad (Kerala) which is a hill station approx 100 km from the nearest Mahindra XUV5OO Service in Calicut.
In 2012 when we wanted the car within 3 months of delivery the Calicut guy couldnt assure the date and after a lot of recommendation, mails to mahindra I got the car booked in Cochin and got it delivered within 3 months of booking. Cochin is 400 Km from my hometown. My dad is using the car and I am in Cochin was using my old indica and now an ecosport.
True that my dad started living with these issues and I couldnt. When I get back home, i find the niggles/issues and dad will have to take it to ITL Calicut which restricts the service guys time to a day and would also take a working day off from my dads work.
ITL never had answers for the issues, they were courteous to inform on recalls and updates but never gave standard response to why/how etc. So now I make it a point to that services are done only in Cochin either by TVS of KTC.

So I got the last 40K service done here, and there were a few issues still left out.

1. I have been living with the second row seat which had a major locking issue, which supposedly happened when I fixed my floor with Resin sheets and had to get the seats removed for the same at ITL-Calicut.

2. Noise from the suspension. Which is nothing more than 4k old I had informed them on the issue during my last service. This time also even after multiple attempts, no resolution was found. And it is by far the main issue here.

3. Headlamp alignment was screwed up when my dad asked the ITL guys in terms of lower visibility.

To be frank, yes I was living with these issues for long but not after reading the long chain of niggles and issues on this forum.
Added to that, the Service Head at KTC was previously with Kairali Ford where i used to take my Ecosport. He was the one who suggested resolving all the issues, one by one.

I respect the time taken by the service team to resolve issues, and I am giving them ample time. And the service centre is right next to my office here in Cochin.

>And On the left ORVM, the noise is not regular.
>Hard Water Mark will be sorted today, and will have to take extra care in wiping out every single droplets from the screen.
>Rear Camera: That the information that i received from the service head. And my camera is of the earlier version and does not serve the purpose during rains, mist, night etc.
I might get a new one fixed, which is smaller. This might go into some where near the rear number plate. is that the right place? Any suggestions ?

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Hi, In my one year old XUV I always struggle to slot the second gear when I am shifting from a higher gear, though first to second gear is very smooth. The advisor at dealership says its do to with Driving style.

Any one else has faced similar issues in gear slotting?

Thanks

Not an XUV owner. Our very own "debuda" sir, is and had a similar problem. Look up his ownership thread-an excellent read and full of info.

Not really the same but similar issue I have faced sometime. Sloting to the 1st gear from the 2nd is difficult unless you come to a complete halt and then slot the first gear. I have experienced this to work sometimes without a problem if the vehicle is very slow, so for me it seems that the vehicle speed matters.

Hi San, I guess the right engine tuning and clutch inspection at the company workshop could help.

I guess the original poster is talking about the "gear-shift" not slotting correctly and not really the "gear" not slotting correctly. This is a relatively simple issue with adjusting the linkages that are connected to the gear shift. Engine tuning and clutch inspection might be an overkill. Just my humble opinion.

My cousin regularly gets his XUV serviced from ITL Calicut, he is in general satisfied by their work. So I hope it was just case of bad servicing for you and issues are sorted out in future visits.

Regarding hard water mark, try using any windsheild cleaning spray for wiping the glass. Over a period of time you will see the marks disappearing. I had this issue with windows of my Alto.

Regarding rear camera, I guess you are saying about two updates. From earlier posts in this and official review thread it was mentioned that a new version of camera was launched by M&M. I am not sure about the time, I guess it was around 2013 mid. This had better night visibility I guess, the RM may be mentioning about the same.

However the camera switching on option has to do with the wiring. I remember a post couple of months back by a member who had the default wiring done with the reverse light cable (like in your XUV), due to which camera only turns on when engaging reverse gear. He changed the wiring with a dedicated power cable for camera and got it working always.

Yes, the best location for camera would be mounted high around number plate area. However I guess M&M has not come up with a slot for that yet, even in XUV Sportz and the newly launched limited edition with sunroof camera is mounted on rear bumper.

Just like Pgupta, I too face issues sometime when downshifting from 2nd to 1st. However, I too have noticed it has to do with speed of vehicle at that time. Have not faced any issues when shifting downshifting to 2nd yet.

Great to know Suhas, anyway now I am with KTC in Cochin. Pretty satisfied with their approach in sorting out the issues. And since you mentioned that mine would be a one of case, I can take it to ITL calicut too next time if needed.

Suhas, on the hard water mark luckily the 3M guys have done a decent job on the wind shield, and as one of the senior bhp-ian mentioned it is not a niggle but more of an issue with our way of washing the car. I am getting the treatment done by 3M for all the glasses on my car.

And yes, the guys in KTC have already done cameras on the number plate area. the new camera is smaller and is of high quality. I might visit the store today to see the one where the cam is already running.
