Why didn't you get the siren replaced or secured with a wire-tie earlier?

Did you get the belt replaced?

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

I faced the same situation last summer and in my case they said the Evaporator Coil junctions has broken and they replaced it under warranty. Also they charged me with the filling of Gas and labor cost. Now it is working as a new car.

Where is this filter located? How to access it? Or is it some other problem? Can anyone help!

In my opinion, if the part is covered under warranty, any consequential damage caused by that part (including labour) is also covered under warranty. You shouldn't have paid a single penny.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Thanks a lot SDP, I have given my car again for the replacement of Vacuum Regulator which went bad last week. He has put an estimated cost of 500 for the labor citing it is a major work and car as been lying at workshop since Saturday. I will make sure I negotiate with him for any labor cost. What about the consumables, like gas, oils etc are they also covered under consequential damages.

Let me give you an example. When the power-steering high-pressure hose had a leakage problem, they replaced the hose under warranty. For removing the hose, they had to take the front-right wheel off and drain the power-steering fluid. Nobody paid anything for the power-steering fluid or the labour. The service-center is supposed to claim that money from Mahindras.

In a few cases, the security-siren had fallen off, gotten entangled with the accessories belt, eventually breaking the accessory belt. Both the security siren and accessory belt were replaced under warranty.

This may be because of the VSC - Stability control. When if the oversteer /under steer is sensed then the Brakes are applied automatically ( May be ABS kicks in to keep the stability?)

It seems that a rat caused the damage
Even the washer motor had been damaged by the rodent and my headlights fused (both) on the right side

Except for the headlamps, rest is fixed

Not a niggle, but a spare part rate check.

I got my rear wheel mud flap damaged by some moronic teenage biker. Any idea what will be the cost of a new one? Also does it have to be purchased in sets or is a single side (left) available ?

First i thought is the siren that has fallen off and rubbing against some belt or something, so stopped again to check for that siren. It was there where it should be so what the hell is that noise coming from. With no answers i kept on driving. While driving i felt that noise was more prominent when car goes over bumps or broken roads. So the noise could be coming from suspension too. Not sure from where its coming but this noise comes when the suspension moves.

Any ideas guys? Anyone else experienced this before and what was the outcome?

Also is it safe to drive it around for few days with this issue as my 50K service is due and i can only give my car for service next week.

Since the sound is prominent while going over uneven roads, did you check if anything is lodged in between the suspension or the wheels. I had a similar issue sometime back. Could hear a scratching noise whenever I turned the steering as slow speeds. Took it to the service centre and could not replicate it. After lot of thorough checking, no one could locate any issues as such. So the final assumption was it could have been some thing lodged in the wheels/suspension area and was dislodged by the time I reached the service centre, after almost a week. Anyways never heard this sound post that.

They told me that right side shocker had gone kaput so they replaced it under warranty.

I had a similar situation last year when they had to replace the evaporator coil. But I was never charged for any gas or labor. It was all covered under warranty.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Sharing another niggle which would apply to AWD owners.

I noticed that when upshifting to Gear#3, there would be a shudder at 1500rpm which would stay all the way till 1800rpm till the turbo kicked in. The situation would be worse in Gear#4 and car would vibrate too much.
I approached the Service Center and they suspected it to be a transfer shaft issue. The prop shaft was replaced under warranty. The vibration was still there, though slightly reduced. The issue came back after driving for 5000kms.

On the next scheduled service at 10000kms, I brought the issue back up. The senior engineer checked and consulted folks at Mahindra. This time they thought it was AWD ECU causing trouble. They removed the ECU and gave the car back to me as the part was not in stock. And voila, no issues. The turbo lag was gone and no vibrations at all.
The part came back after a week and they called me to bring the car. The ECU was replaced and the same problem got back in. I was supposed to travel overseas and didn’t want to leave my car there. The engineer at the Service Center offered to consult the Mahindra engineers over a live session and try one more time. So I came back home and decided to pursue this later.

Once back in the country, I took the car back to service center. This time they had arranged another AWD vehicle for me to test drive. I drove the vehicle and it had the same problem. I was told that this is with all AWD variants so you’ll have to live with it. There is nothing more we can do. Having driven other AWD vehicles in my lifetime, I told them that this is a design flaw and I won’t accept it. But the guys at the service center expressed helplessness.

I wrote in to the customer care and the matter was escalated to the customer Care manager. The guy calls me next day and asked to bring the car again. We went for a test drive and he agreed there was sligggght... shudder and it’s quite normal. I told him that this is not normal and AWD doesn’t mean that you have shudders and vibrations that rattle the trim and windows. I told him that I’ll keep escalating till Mahindra does something about it. He went back to his folks and arranged for engineers to come over to Hyderabad from the Chakan plant.

Long story short, the engineers came in and checked vehicle and found out that one of a clamps that ensures proper alignment of the transfer shaft was not setup the right way. The alignment was done and all issues resolved.

The funny part is that it was a trivial issue that could’ve been easily fixed if the service center engineers have the right level of training about complex features of the vehicle.

I have not noticed a shudder, well I get vibrations only when its low on rpm and I up shift a bit early.
I usually change gears at 1500rpm.

P.S. I get this khad-khad-khad (usually from the rear) when in first gear on an incline road after I fully depress the clutch to prevent stalling and press the break. (Stop go traffic on an incline)

And which service center at Hyderabad?? And what model (year/month) is it?

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Mine is a Oct 2012 AWD model and the Service Center is VVC motors Kothaguda.
The senior engineer (I guess he is the engineering supervisor) that I worked with is Majid Khan. Very nice guy. He is the one who supported me throughout while working with the Customer Care Manager, always saying that this is a problem and we need a fix.

He has been also very helpful in replacing all upgrades that we have been discussing on this thread. Like Galfer brake pads, New design brake lever, wiring harness, Long life Osram bulbs etc. All I had to do was ask for the replacements and everything done. No questions asked.
