My XUV will complete 2 yrs in next couple of months. Need advice if any dealer in Navi Mumbai or around has done any ICE Upgrade for XuV. Also I need tips or solution for the hard suspension on XUV.
I have been getting a rough sound from my engine, so took it to the workshop. As usual first reaction - No this is normal, later after insisting they purged the system about twice, the sound is definitely better but now they want to open the head, and check the tappets and clean the nozzles. Has any one here had that done. I'm a bit nervous to have any one touch the engine. It has done only 32K and I,v not had any serious problem as yet.

The tappet clearance should be touched only by well experienced guys as it is a tricky job. It has to be done in compliance to the clearances needed at cold, warm & at optimal temperature of the engine.
Tappets need setting up the clearance after some time, post run-in but I am not sure if its needed in your car. Typical symptoms of tappets needing adjustment would be high clatter of the engine, if the clearance is excessive. Too tight clearance can damage certain components too. At 32K kms, I am not sure if your car would need it but I hope more knowledgeable people would help us guide better.
Does your vehicle jerk while accelerating? Or has the acceleration reduced(pickup)? A injector cleanup would be good but at 32k is a bit early. Bad fuel can lead to gumming of the injectors. You may try injector cleaning solutions which are poured into your diesal tank after filling up near full.
Xuv has hydrulic tappets which adjust automatically. No manual setup is required.
I seem to have a strange issue on my xuv. There's a burning smell that's started appearing as soon as I turn on the ACC. It goes away in a minute but I'm worried that something is going to be charred soon.
It smells like electrical wire burning. My 10,000 km service is due so will get it checked up but anyone know what's going on? Similar issues? I'm out of town so can't say what exactly is the matter but I'm back Sunday night so can check on it as soon as I'm back.
Also, on my way to the airport, the check engine light came on and glowed for a while, until I restarted the car. It went away. My brother who was using the car last week said that it came on once or twice before. Are the two linked?

better get it checked at the A.S.S. on highest priority, there might be an internal short circuit leading to the overheating of wires, and the resultant burning smell. Did you get any smoke from the AC vents ?
Engine check might be linked to the same wiring.

No. There's no smoke and the smell disappears after a minute. Will get it checked out when I get back. Thanks m_upreti.
Over the past 3 weeks I made a conspicuous observation on several XUV's - Most of the XUV's I saw had one projector lamp gone bust.
Is this a common occurrence and niggle for the XUV?

Yes. The low beam bulbs are prone to premature-fusing.

Yes it is. Infact most of the XUV's i see on road have one or the other bulb gone kaput, so its common and you have to live with it. Im running my XUV with one of the fog light gone kaput :deadhorse
I am back in the UK. Just want to quickly share couple of photos.
On low beam (HIDs)
On low + high beam.
On another note, I did receive quite a few PMs for the manuals. Most of the PMs were very decent and polite requests but some were downright rude and arrogant.
It was not easy to get these and some people take this for granted. I will share this to only members who I know are respected here. My apologies to them for the delay and I hope to send these out tomorrow.

Low beam looks good!!
Just one doubt - how did you get low+high beam together? I thought when you switch to high , the low beam switches off. ( again I could be mistaken)

Nope, the low beam does not switch off when switched to high beam...
There is one small catch however, when driving with low beam in manual mode and you want to flash high beam, there is a particular point while pulling the light stalk when the low beam switches off and the high beam does not turn up. Which means total darkness. These is a major technical issue as far as I understand. The only solution is to ensure the light stalk is pulled all the way towards you when flashing. Though there are times on the highway, when you keep flashing the high beam to overtake some slower moving vehicle and for brief moments you might be in the dark if you dont pull the stalk properly, which I do once I realised this shortcoming. But again this is not noticed very severely as this black out would be present only for fraction of a sec, unless one holds the light stalk at the exact point where it happens.
However, this issue is not present when driving in autolight mode and you need to flash the high beam. Cant understand why the same mechanism is not present when in manual mode.
Also my doubt on this. With HID lights installed in the low beam, wont this ON-OFF-ON be a problem when driving in manual mode and would it affect the bulbs, as HID bulbs usually take some time to be fully ON.
