XYG Glass or Saint Gobain glass

Hello all,
On my way back to Lucknow from Ranikhet a small stone hit the windscreen of my Grande. The crack was increasing day by day so I had to replace it. They have put a XYG windscreen and the original that came with Grande was Saint Gobain. So I would like to know whether this brand is good or not? I read somewhere that their is distortion present in XYG glass. Please help me with your suggestions.

Thanks

Re: XYG Glass or Saint Gobain glass

What I heard from the windshield installer is there is a higher chance of glass changing to white during rain which is very dangerous. Better stick to Saint gobain as the difference is just Rs750 between these two brands. Also SG comes with warranty hence if you find fogging inside the glass you will get replacement.

Regards,
Vijay

Same thing happened with my car and even i was given choices but i decided to go for Saint Gobain. No compromises with the front windshield ever, remember its your safety. Did the Tata guys fit this glass for you? and did they ask you before fitting it? if not then go to them and insist on the original glass.

Saint Gobain glass is used for Tata Nano too. I was surprised to see it when many Indian cars use cheaper brands.

Saint Gobain any day. Most OEM's use this and I would any day vouch for its quality.

There are few reputed Indian automotive glass manufactures as per my knowledge, ATUL, ASAHI INDIA, SAINT GOBAIN, GOLD PLUS, etc. I believe all these are regular OEM suppliers from ages.

Don't take a risk. Go in for Saint Gobain or Asahi if available. Never compromise on the front windshield. Consider it as a safety device. A poor quality windshield can be terrible whilst driving at night due to distortions and the safety factor (laminated or non-laminated).

Hello all yes I claimed the insurance. Itwas not TASS but the place was suggested by the insurance agent himself. My driver took the car their and they asked him to leave the car their only. Today when he went to receive the car they had already put the windscreen. They did not gave any optionof Saint Gobain or XYG but said that they will bring it from TATA Workshop.

Thanks

Somebody's being taken for a ride here, not sure who.

have you told your insurer that his guy has put in a non-oem part?
was it a cashless outlet?
XYG is non-oem, slightly lower quality, as far as this thread and all the feedback indicates.
guess what else it is, based on that.
cheap.
