There's nothing to worry. The lights you see are:

1. Check engine/ MPFI malfunction lamp- indicates a problem with fuel injection and emission system.

2. Parking brake lamp- indicates parking brakes engaged or low brake fluid in the reservoir.

3. EPC lamp, proprietary to VW, which indicates malfunctioning of throttle and cruise control system. Basically the drive by wire system.

4. The ignition lamp -indicates problem with vehicle's battery charging system.

All these lamps, except the parking brakes should go off after you start the engine. I think you are getting confused because you are expecting them to go off after turning ignition on and before starting the engine.

How much does the VW logo centre wheel cap cost ?
I actually parked my car outside on my last trip to pondi and the centre wheel cap of one of the alloys was stolen.

It costs around Rs 550, which is a daylight robbery.

I recommend you search and buy this sort of product online - it should be much cheaper than whatever VW charges.

Tomorrow will be the first service of my Polo 1.2 MPi - 12k kms in the first year .

Through the forums I have realised to be vigilant about what all to get done during the first service . Can someone pls help with the must dos as a checklist ? Can this be found anywhere on the manual ?

Tell them to only change the engine oil and filters, no need of wheel balancing, alignment and their new one - scanning. Additionally their shampoo also costs over 250 bucks, you can deny that too.
Recently I got my 1.2 serviced; alignment etc I got done from.outside and shampoo for cleaning windshield I denied. So final bill came out at 6202 bucks. Then I got installed the second horn and the bill became 8998 - then I felt contented

There are a number of small tasks that one may not think of that are specified to be included in the service. One such, that I happen to remember, is lubricating the door hinges!

If balancing and alignment is excluded, then be sure to get it done at an independent tyre shop. Our streets take a toll on this.

Whilst some of these things may be less cost (and maybe even done better!) by others, I worry about excluding anything from the service, for the sole reason that it gives snake-wriggle room for dealers/manufacturers to argue about any future warranty claims. You can say that I am allowing myself to be held to ransom. Yes: but the whole dealer-service-under-warranty thing is ransom. Without it, I'd much rather trust my car to an excellent independent garage near my house.

So I go easy on the exclusions, but don't hesitate to say no to the extra services. Actually, I have said yes to some of those services, and not been satisfied with the result. If I want 3M treatments, better to go to 3M!

I small query:

I was driving my Polo (Highline, 1.2 P) the other day with AC on the auto mode. I realised that the blower speed would increase at times and would decrease miserably at other occasions, only to discover that this was happening because of driving directly below the sun or driving in shade (under flyovers, underpass etc).

Can anyone tell where is the Solar sensor located in Polo? Tried hard (even Google) but was unable to locate!

Hi everyone,

I own a Polo Tdi (mar 2011). Recently Diesel pre-heating indicator light has started glowing. Whenever it glows the turbo is not kicked in. Other times it will work fine. I gave it for servicing the other day. The Service adviser told that it needed a turbo replacement which will cost 50k. Should i go with the replacement or look for options in local garage? Please help.

Today I was driving my Polo 1.2 mpi. Everything was going perfectly fine, and suddenly it threw the yellow check engine light.

Immediately, I pulled over, checked oil sump, oil level, wires and everything felt perfectly fine. In fact it was also driving just normally with no signs of snags, over heating etc.

Now, I was searching for VW service station and stopped the car to ask a guy about the same. I went inside Chevrolet A.S.S. since VW one is near (VW NCR east) but invisible on GPS. Came out and saw that a Santro just hit my parked car slightly from back. Had an argument with Santro guy, put key into the keyhole, start the engine and voila! The light was gone and didn't come back for next 81 kilometers too. Anyone can suggest anything?

Check engine lights can indicate something major or something very minor too.
The engine light in our Jetta came on and a trip to the A.S.S revealed that it was a minor oil leak with a loose pipe leaking a couple of drops.
If the light goes on and off, it might be a minor electrical issue or a loose wire of some sort.
On a sidenote, sorry to hear about what happened to your car. Some people simply don't realise how much we love our vehicles I tell you!!

My GT tsi is nearing its 1 year service and in the past 11 months i've had this happen to me twice. The check engine light came on. So i parked the car, checked the oil, battery wires and the petrol cap. All were fine.

When i restarted, on both occassions the light never came back on.

Wonder what the issue is as i was not able to replicate it during the 6 month checkup so the ASS guys said it may be some temporary glitch.

Anybody have any ideas, and is this an indicator of some serious problem?

If it hasn't re=appeared then I don't think you need to worry. Do keep an eye on if it comes back.

If possible get the VAG-COM scan done. Sometimes error codes are stored in the ECU.

A question on warning lamps - I understand the Polo only has an oil pressure lamp but no oil level lamp. Does the lamp go yellow and then red at low and dangerously low pressures?

I never [knowingly] drove a car posh enough to have an oil-level warning. As far as I know, the Polo's Oil light works like every oil light I've known since 1950-something: Still on after engine start is bad. Only two states, OK and not OK.

Of course, it might be that it is my understanding that has not moved on since 1950-something. Would be really interesting to be wrong on this one!
