Team-BHP - VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Guys, my Polo is back in the workshop again! This time its a diesel leakage that was noticed by my driver when fumes started from the car's bonnet.

The car was taken to VW Palace cross on 19th August at 8PM by a flat-bed, the car was attended to only on 21st August, despite 20th being a working day as they had misplaced the 'towing slip' and found it only by evening.

On 21st, i had to shell out 1000 bucks for diesel for them to 'diagnose' the problem. Finally they said a clip near the fuel injector had gone lose and that caused diesel leakage as the fuel filter pumps in fuel at a pressure to the injectors.

How can something like this happen on a 6 month old car ? I mean, aren't injectors critical components and won't the company take adequate safeguards and not just have small clip, the failure of which will result in diesel spray all over the engine a bay and a chance for a potential fire ?

I asked a mechanic who regularly works on our Skoda Octy and he said such things are impossible and he hasn't seen it in any of the cars he's worked till now in his 10 years as a mechanic.

Any idea as to what could've happened and if the workshop guys can be believed ?

When I was owning a Fiat Palio, I have had lot of terrible experience with these guys at the same place where they are now operating for the VW. I think they are now playing the second innings to tarnish another brand after the Fiat.

Hi Volks,

My Polo is going for a second service on Monday. Completed 13000kms in 2 years. Could anyone tell me what kind of a service bill can I expect? Will engine oil be totally flushed out or just a top-up? Any other things to take care of? I will be doing tyre rotation and alignment too.

SA informs me that the part that they've in stock is damaged & won't be able to use that. However, some older part that was received in an earlier lot is available but it'd cost 2500 bucks.......

Sad to hear that. My vents have broken twice till date and both the times they were replaced under warranty.

Mate, tell me from which dealer you managed to get it done under warranty? As reported earlier by me, Sundaram clearly said it can't be done under warranty.

I'm yet to get the vent repaired as I'm out of station for quite some time now. Your inputs would help my fight for it when I get them replaced.

Bought a Polo Trendline Diesel last week :)

I did the ICE installation (Kenwood DPX-U5120 and KenWood Speakers KFC 1632A) at a reputed dealer in Trivandrum. They are the dealers and authorized service centre for multiple car electronic products in the region.

I wanted to put in a remote lock, but they discouraged me from installing it. They mentioned that over the last couple of years they had had multiple customers reporting that the central lock motor has got burned out. VW would not give warrenty since the remote lock is not a standard accessory and the customers had to shell out 12K to install new motors. So as a standard practice the dealer (who has multiple shops all around Kerala) is installing the remote lock (Autocop or Nippon) only if the customer is really adamant and is willing to take all risks.

Moreover they also mentioned that the way to install a remote lock would be to lightly remove the central lock wiring skin and couple the remote lock circuit with diodes.

Has anyone installed a remote lock on a Polo ? Any issues faced ?

Just have a check at 7.5k kms to ensure if top of engine oil is needed. Reports of engine oil consumption is seen here on many cars ( TDI's and petrol)

Finally gave my polo 1.6 for first service on saturday(only 6000 kms on odo). The total estimated cost comes around 14000. This includes the teflon coating. They have charged extra 4000 for tefloan coating. I was telling them about the engine rattling noise when going over potholes and they immediatley told me that the engine mount needs to be changed and this will be covered under warranty.

I hope they will. When I got the car back after service the very next day I had reported the issue but because of ignorance of service adviser it got neglected.

When I again logged the issue on VW website, I received sms saying that I will hear from Dealer soon. Only thing I herd was a call telling me that I can get extended warranty and cover the repairs under it, but soon they realised that as per the new policy of VW extended warranty could be availed only till end of 23 months from date of invoice and my car will complete 26 months this weekend. So I can not do it.

If they do not extend goodwill its a setback of approx 13k+ for replacement of fuel pump.

I can only keep my fingers crossed at this moment.:)
