Replace of Engine Oil, Oil Filter, Differential, Gear oil, 3,900/-
Brake Clean, 450/-
A/c Filter clean, 150/-
Consumable 200/-
Service Plus, 450/- (I asked what this is and the rep said that the window mechanism catches rust / grease and we service it. He said it's necessary. However I still have my doubts)

This totals to Rs. 6,150/-

I have also asked them to check a few other issues which are mentioned on the job card, however no amount is mentioned. These are:

LH. Fr Seat Noise (Theres a slight noise in the passenger seat backrest when braking)
ORVM glass vibrates
Check Vaccum Modulator (don't know why he's mentioned this)
Whistling noise in A/c sometimes ( I asked him to check the A/c expansion valve. I had been advised about the same earlier on this thread)
Check Suspension ( I have only asked him to tighten nuts and lubricate all the bushes)
LH RR Seatbelt cover loose
RH Seat Skirt fix properly (driver side plastic skirting on the side of the seat has come off)

They also advised wheel balancing and alignment, however I said that we'll do that next time as I need the car delivery by evening. Then he tried to sell me the engine bay lamination / lacquering service as it protects he hoses. I declined politely.

I have also asked him to change the security code of the vehicle from the default one. I thought I'd do it myself but didn't want to screw anything up. Is it safe for the service centre guys to know your car's security code?

I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.

Cheers
As always an innocent guy gets looted by thieves Mahindra advisors.

Consumable 200/-
Service Plus, 450/- (I asked what this is and the rep said that the window mechanism catches rust / grease and we service it. He said it's necessary. However I still have my doubts) - This all is unneeded. And AC filter cleaning is a 2 minute job which anyone with compressed air would do.

And for heavens why would you even think of getting balancing / alignment done at Mahindra? There are specialised tyre shops for it.

Thumbrule before you go for any scheduled service : read the manual for :

1. What is supposed to be done on that service
2. What quantities of oil are required.

Make sure that both of above points are the same in the bill and the owner's manual.

Condor & Wandernomad thanks for your your responses! I know these guys rip off lay people like me all the time.

I sort of knew that the service plus crap is useless. I normally let them sell me a little bit of unwanted stuff so that the greedy crooks are appeased and don't flick spares from the car.(which may be happening in any case)

However I wasn't satisfied with the service as they still haven't taken care of the small complaints that I had. I will be taking the car again and have them finish everything while I supervise.

And yeah I'm not going to let them do the alignment and balancing. They don't have the equipment and Would be outsourcing the job anyway.

Sensible trade-off, to the extent it helps.

Each SA has his targets - and often huge targets. This pressure on them by the A.S.S management is often the reason for these additional stuff.

In one way, helps to get some small extra stuff done there itself - like Wheel alignment & balancing. Or get consumables like fuel additives (if you use them). Adavantage for car owner is not having to run around for these things. Personally, I get my alignment done at T.A.S.S during servicing. I have tried outside, but I have had to go back to them for correction - and both times I have had to wait for my turn. Comparatively, the T.A.S.S does it right each time & it is done when the truck is with them for servicing.

Hey there was something about an update to sort out the 3rd gear vibrations somewhere in the last few pages.

Any news on that? What is being replaced and is it under warranty?

Thanks Capt.,

I spoke to Mr. Dilip, he was not aware of the part number but was good enough to give me his mobile number. I will be speaking to him next wee.

In the meantime I have forwarded my laundry list of issues to the Mahindra Customer Care (it has been highly effective in the past) and taken an appointment with the A.S.S. for the next week.

Which in my case was Mr.Dilip from CAI Industries, Coimbatore. You can also talk to him at 0422-4336699 in case you need further details on the same.
Do let me know, if i could help you with something else.

@ m_upreti : Great. I guess they will be able to sort you issue in another couple of weeks. Best of luck.

Blower knob needs replacement, spares not available !

Friends,
Need some help with my 2005 non-CRDe Scorpio. The blower speed knob has stopped working. The Mahindra Auth. service that I have been taking my scorpio for the last 5 years has fixed an after-market pull-switch as an alternative sighting non-availability of spares & high cost of replacing the knob. It is definitely an eye-sore & from a 4 speed blower, mine is now a 2 speed one. And because of this reduced speed, the cabin does not cool effectively during peak Delhi summers. Its almost scorching when one is seated in the rear.

According to the M&M auth service station, the blower knob itself costs around Rs. 500-700 but it does not retail as a single piece, I would have to change the other two as well - air flow direction knob & the temperature setting knob along with the blower speed knob as they are available only as a single composite unit.

Also, high labour cost & time is required as they will have to pull out the complete dash, steering wheel etc to reach to the knob units from behind the dash. Hence the overall cost of replacing it would be around Rs. 3000.

I tried to search for the blower knob in open market in Sec16 Noida but none of the spare part dealers have it. Is there any place in Delhi where I can source this part or does someone know of a M&M spare part maufacture who can source this part for me ?

Please help.

Why don't you get in touch with the customer care?

Ask them if the part no. you are looking for can be obtained from them. I am sure they'll understand the lack of rationality in opening the whole dash for a knob replacement.

@Capt.

Thanks! Sent them a mail, waiting for a reply.

Wow ! Its interesting to know that Authorized Service Stations get these kind of after market spares fixed, which i guess they are not supposed to.
I guess it would be a fairly good idea if you could get a 4 speed knob used for air conditioners fit in the local market and put in at least for the time being so that you do not have to compromise on you comfort.

Well, this service station specializes in servicing & repairing Boleros, MM540, MAXX etc. Only a few old Scorpios are seen & that too rarely, mine being one of them. Another service station blatantly refused when asked about the availability of such spares for non-CRDe models.

I will try to source a similar knob from 'Rajasthan Auto Distributors' as suggested by WanderNomad. If not, will try to see if the new MHawk Scorpios knobs fit in. If not, then something else as another 'jugaad'. :-)

I guess it will be a challenging assignment before the summers arrive again.

Switch for Auxilliary Lights

I wanted to fix Hella Driving lights on a Scorpio, but I noticed that the VLX version has no empty switch sockets to add a switch. I prefer not to make an ugly hole in the dash. Any ideas where I can fix an extra driving light switch in the Scorpio?

One option I was thinking of was disconnecting the auto headlamp switch and using that for the auxiliary lights. I don't plan to use the auto headlamp feature anyways..

Me too going to get Hellas anytime. There is no place to get the switch fixed and there seems to be no other option than to get a hole drilled in the dash.
