Re: Mahindra Scorpio : Issues & Solutions

Hi

My good old 9 yr old Non-CRDE chain drive Scorpio completed 1 Lac Kms during my trip last week from Delhi - Tirthan Valley - Kasol - Manali-Delhi. It has never left me stranded in the last 10 yrs. It has done 3 road trips to Leh and countless others to the hills.

I need to change the Engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter as it has completed 1 Lac. Last service was done at 95K kms at Authorised Service Center.

This time I just want to buy oil and filters and get them replaced at the friendly neighborhood garage. I am looking to buy Mobil Delvac MX 5 + 1 ltrs. Does anybody have any other recommendations ?

What is the brand of the engine oil filter and the fuel filter that one can buy from the aftermarket ?

Re: Mahindra Scorpio : Issues & Solutions

Update is that I bought all filters and oil and got it replaced.
Mobil Delvac Super 1300 - 6 Ltrs Rs 1350
Mahindra Engine Oil Filter Rs 160
Mahindra Air Filter Rs 380
Bosch Fule Filter Inserts (Pair) Rs 160
Paid to FNG Rs 400
Total Expense Rs 2,450
So I am done with the 1 Lac Service. Will go for next service at 1,10,000 kms

for the after-market oil filter and air filter, you can also check ArrowHead
http://www.arrowheadfilters.com/ you can find a thread on Gear Heads and they listed on ebay.in also.

PS: Im not connected to this company, but have read good about it, though not used it personally.

I have a Xylo - recently during service at MMASS, noticed the packing of Oil Filter, it was made by http://www.elofic.com/filtration_product.html (Rs.165)

Xylo Air Filter (MASS or AH), both cost around 750/- (whereas you have done at half cost for your scorpio!)

Re: Mahindra Scorpio : Issues & Solutions

My Scorpio is giving mileage of ~7kmpl on an average, this I noticed recently after the 25k service at Sireesh Auto, Jakkur. Just to be sure I went through the bill and found that they have added some engine performance and cleanup additives.

Could one of you please refer me to a good technician at any A.S.S who knows what he's doing and can help me regain the actual mileage the vehicle is supposed to deliver

Thanks,
Rajesh

I dont think the low FE is due to the additives. It would have helped if there was better info about when this started. At this time, I suggest you first change your fuel station, Check tyre pressures. Track your FE, and then go to another Mah-A S S.

I think you live around Bellary Road. Apart from the Shell bunks, you can also try the HP COCO opp Columbia Asia (?) close to the Hebbal fly-over.

You should get 10 - 11 in city.

Rajesh from my experience, Chrome Motors, Mysore Road is currently the best place to get the Scorpio serviced from. My friend also moved over from Sireesh to Chrome Motors now.

Thanks Condor, I always fill nitrogen in tires and maintain the 32PSI, am noticing this change only after 25k service at Sireesh. Majority of the times I tank up only at the IoC next to Manyata Tech Park, even if I have to fill outside, it will always be HP or IoC COCOs. I fill about 45 liters and I get about 280-300kms before I fill another 45lts.

Riju, Could you please PM your friend's contact details ? If you are suggesting, then am sure he must be good at what he does.

Also if you have any other contacts at Sireesh, please refer since this place is quite close to me and I can monitor what they are trying to do.

Also, apart from this I have some issues with the steering which even the senior technician at IG whitefield couldnt fix, even after escalating this issue to the multiple authorities at Mahindra. .

the IOC outside Manyata looks fine, have filled there couple of times.

Right way to measure FE is either auto-cut-off to auto-cut-off, or top-up to top-up. Measuring distance by filling x number of litres is not accurate. Some people prefere the auto-cut-off method, while others prefer the top-up.

Please try either of these, and then let us know the FE you are getting.

ps:
I prefer top-up method

When I get the first warning from the vehicle, I fill it up within the next 5kms, (I stay 2kms away from Manyata) I make sure to stop it the auto cut off, so the fuel intake is anywhere between 42-45 lts. so last 2 mnths, I have not done any outstation trips except for home-office runs. May 17th I filled 44lts, exactly on 17th June I got the first warning msg, I filled up around 43 lts (I have the bills), now the fuel guage shows little over 1/4th tank. since May 17th I've just done about 561kms :(

Go to Chrome Motors and ask for their service works manager, Maqbool. This dude is the no nonsense types at-least from my last 2 interactions with him. I went there as a complete stranger and they did up the scorpio really well. From my last service with them see below

The tank capacity to auto cut off is 60ltrs and if I were to do the math on both the tank fills the figure shows a stunning 16.xx kms mileage .
I still had another 30 or 40kms fuel left on both instances.

Both the fills in the last 3 weeks the scorpio did 935kms and 950kms on a full tank till cut off.

None actually that I know off. My friend used to go there , had enough and finally moved to Chrome Motors.

They are pretty incompetent at-least from my experience. I now avoid this place like plague.

Rajith, even you need to get it checked, look at Riju's mileage numbers, he's talking about 15+, and as a matter of fact, I used to get 14+ with 100% AC sometime back. Now it has dropped to 7/8kmpl, this is my worry.

How does it become 15+?!
450 divided by 40 is 11.25.
450 divided by 44 is 10.23.

You can expect an FE drop if the ASS has overdosed your car with diesel fuel additives. This is temporary, and FE should improve after 500-1000 km (2-3 tankfuls - don't add any additive to the diesel at this stage). A quick way to speed up FE improvement is to flash the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a short while, then reconnecting.

Also expect an FE drop if they've flushed or decarbonised your engine. Just have patience for 1000 km and things ought to come back to normal again.

Edit: BTW, my FE figures over the last 36,000+ km, based on Fuel Log records, are:
Best 14.58 km/l
Worst 8.49 km/l
Average 12.34 km/l

This includes everything - in-city, outstation, long drives, mountains, wherever we've gone.
