Front A/C Vents, CRDE 2007 July Model.

Hai Scorpers,

Went to the ASC, Punjab Automobiles, Ahmedabad, yesterday too get the front A/C vents of my CRDe 2007 Scorp changed to that of the new MHwak type. The MHwak one is a slider type which controls air flow better, the driver gets the draft on the face, the old stick type one is not good enough.

They gave me coffee (customer relationship seems to have improved) checked the stores and told me it's out of stock, would take 3 days to fly the stocks in, it should cost under 750/-, they would inform me once it arrives.

Anyone here who has changed the A/C Vent?

Question regd 3rd row seating. Can a bench-style seat be swapped with two jump seats? IIRC someone had mentioned something like this in their New Car thread. What changes need to be made with regards to mounting points, supports etc?
Any idea how much such a swap would cost (wouldn't mind trading the bench for two used jump seats in good condition)?

Razor, I believe the mounting points are already there. The basic bodyshell is the same for all Scorpios.
If you see Sudipta's new ownership thread you'll see that in about two hours the dealer converted from one variant to another for him!

Some more details please!
I'd also be interested in getting this done.

Well, I just gave my car for service and asked them to change the vents, thats it. The new vents fit in exactly where the old ones were.

Note - This only applies to the Scorpios which have the air vents with the funny stick in the middle. The earlier ones used to have the same vents which are on either ends of the dash board. They were mounted in the centre horizontally.

Infractions: 0/2 (9)

precisely why i usually suggest go for 7 seater instead of 9 seater version always in Scorpio.

if the third row seats are there, then you have almost ZERO luggage space.

Scorpio should seat 4 persons in good comfort - 5 persons still ok

the last row area should ideally be used for luggage because even on the jump seats only small kids or pygmies can be fitted - and in the last row whether jump seat or bench seat it is horribly claustrophobic, bumpy, uncomfortable and unsafe because there are no seatbelts or anything and with hard braking one can bang into the middle row headrests and other numerous things.

Third row front facing seats have almost non existant leg room.

However seat belts are present in the third row also in my VLX.

Just for information:

In the 9 seater, the second row reclines (similar to the driver/passenger) whereas in the 7 seater this feature is not there owing to the limitation on account of the jump seats.

So, if you were to swap the 3rd row for jump seats, you would loose the recline featue of the second row.

Check this out:

It sthe oppsoite of what you want to do, but may provide useful insights.

SCORPIO A/c issue.

Folks,
As i found the A/c slightly less, injected gas locally(correct type), unfortunately , the quantum was a bit high (it sucked) upto 120 psi(?), we found the compressor cutting off every 5 seconds and we reduced to 85 psi now, still i find tak-tak noises coming from beneath the middle of the dashboard and also the same noise from near the steering column.
Performance is ok, but find erratic, planning a long drive to Hyderabad ann back trow.
Hope it is not serious. PLS ADVICE.

Pradeep, the info you provide is too sketchy for providing diagnose / advice.

A few queries:

The 125psi & 85 psi is measured with the compressor engaged? Is this head pressure you refer to or static pressure?

You say erratic...can you elaborate?

Hi,x
Yes with compressor engaged, erratic- it switching on and off.
What is the kat kat noise from cabin? The grill temperature when checked by placing hand for 15 minutes over a 15 kms distance was good but......i am confused.

Thats probably the compressor clutch engainging / disengaging. This happens when:

1) Head / discharge pressure to high. Reason:

(a) Too much AC gas filled. Remedy: Reduce gas.
(b) Condensor coil not ok on account of clogging / dirt. Remedy: Service condensor AC unit.
(c) Condensor fan not working. Remedy: Get it to work!
(d) The cabin temp. has reached the point manually set at thermostat.

But...? Why are you confused?

The kat kat (!) is probably the compressor clutch engainging / disengaging.

I don;t understand, if its cooling fine then what is your grievance. Is it only the noise? Have you had it checked at a qualified AC centre?

Hey mate how much did you pay for it. My car is also due for service and I have been thinking about the vents since long.
