sorry, forgot to mention.

the AC issue has been resolved. The AC circulation knob was set to "upper & lower" vents. i changed it to the upper vents & the throw is back to normal. how foolish i am!

Road tax

Moderators - I couldnt find a thread where I can ask this question but since I am planning to buy a scorpio next week, I thought this is the best place to post.

hello everyone,

The dealer is asking me to pay 1,34,000 Rs as registration tax and this equates to 15.4% of the ex showroom price (8,70,000 Rs) of the model I selected.

According to a karnataka govt circular I saw on the RTO website, dated March 31st 2010, the tax is 14% for vehicles that cost between 5 and 10 lac rupees. That comes up to about 1,22,000 Rs.

Why is the dealer asking for 12k more? And then there is a handling charge of 6000 Rs which is taken as commission for registering the car. Can someone who bought the car tell me if you saw a receipt for the exact amount you paid the dealer?

The dealer is charging 20% as road tax for the top end model while the circular on the RTO website says the max taxation amount is 17% (for vehicles that cost over 10 lac rupees).

Somehow, something doesnt seem alright. I want to register my vehicle myself. Can I? Any personal experiences of trying to do this in Bangalore (By the way, K.R. puram RTO is my area RTO)

Hi, today the windscreen Wiper played a nasty one, during heavy rain in the morning I suddenly heard squeaking noise from the windscreen, and by the time I could realize & switch it off the left blade had made a nasty semicircular scratch on the glass.

Upon inspection I found out that the blade had come off the wiper arm.

Any ideas if this can be rectified.

Thanks Raj, the numbers are not responding so sent a mail.

I have also contacted the Windshield Experts also via eMail as their toll free number is also not responding (Windshield Repair, Auto Glass and Auto Safety Glass Replacement Services Center India). I spoke to their center in Chembur, he has asked me to bring the car there.

There is another one i searched on the net (http://www.auto-glaze.in/) Autoglaze Scratch Remover and Restoration System, i will try to find it in some accessory shop.

Let me see if I can make it this weekend, the scratch is irritating me like anything..

Hi Got a call from Busy Bee Lenses (Mr Narayan 9004446319),
he says that the scratch can be removed, and the cost would be 1100 Rs and he will treat the entire glass so that any other minor scratches would also be taken care of.

If any one has tried this type of a solution please provide me some feedback

Hi Raj,

It happens with everyone, not to bother!! Happy to note that another trip to A.S.C is avoided.

mupreti, that is a bad thing to happen. Remember to have all the three wiper blades replaced before the monsoons start. I do that every year irrespective of how the blades are. In our tropical country, heat, grime, dust etc can always make the wiper rubber brittle! I use BOSCH blades and am happy with the throw and does work well with less noise.

Total cost : Rs. 1900/- (including labour for the re-cambering)
Time taken : 2 hours

Now I find the handling to be even more firm and assured, so am quite happy with the results !

My thanks to gd1418 and Pradeep for their valuable inputs

The body roll is lesser now, by 25 % at least, while cornering. The rear bobbing / up and down motion has reduced now. The ride feels a bit more hard (but firm and planted), when driving alone. So today I reduced my tyre pressures from 32 to 30 psi, and now the car handles and rides very well indeed.

I feel I have finally optimised my suspension now, thanks to really helpful inputs from gd1418, Pradeep, agbenny, Shankar Balan and others whose posts have helped so much

My family could feel the improvement instantly, and asked me as to what was done to the vehicle

I would definitely recommend adding the leaf no. 6 to any leaf spring Scorpio owner, particularly if the springs have sagged, and any way need removal for servicing.

Again, the antifriction washers have not been added, as in Pradeep's case. Looks like the FNGs down here do not feel the need to do this ! But to prove his point that these washers are not required, the FNG chap (who specialises only in leaf spring repairs) showed me the 10 ton trucks, Tata 207s, and our own Mahindra's jeeps lined up near his shop, and none of them had these washers in their leaf springs ! Since I drive mainly on good roads and seldom offroad, I settled for this. Anyway, I plan to inspect the leaves at regular intervals, just to be safe.

I got this done for my Scorpio, which had met the same fate, courtesy the previous owner !

Deep scratches (that can be felt by the fingernail) cannot be removed. Only the fine ones surrounding it will get taken care of.

Please see my post in the link below :

They have a center in Mumbai, forgot to ask where. But he said that the person can come over and do it at my place, charges are all inclusive, so all the better.

Windshield Experts guy asked me to come over, I will have to plan to go to Chembur if I want their opinion, but not sure if I will be able to plan that out.

Thanks. The scratch seems to be minor, just visible, not deep.

Here goes the latest adventure with my Scorp:
This is the third time in 10 months (to be precise the first 10 months of a new mighty muscular ownership), that a part is giving up. First it was the real break liner and then the power window motor and now it’s time for the clutch (I hope it is the last!) to give up. And imagine, if you are stranded on the road, middle of the traffic on your Wife’s B’day because you cannot change the gear!

Well, it doesn’t get over with that. I managed to pull the car to a side and was looking at the clutch pedal assembly above my foot and noticed that something was tied to the clutch and the rest of assembly. Put my hand inside and what stuck to my hand was an unusual cable tie with a knot. For a moment, I thought something got stuck inside, though it had a proper knot. I removed it and what came in to my hand was a half meter cloth piece I almost fainted by then as I started re-collecting that I reported unusual squeaks from the clutch spring during my first and second service and the mighty A.S.S(I should no more add those dots) Silver Jubilee Motors in Pune had “fixed” it. In fact, that was the only place I have event given my car for services till today.

I don’t know the purpose of this cloth tie, but when I started the car again, I could slot the gears and move on so I decided to take it to the A.S.S. However, I maintained a low speed and remained in 3rd gear as much as I could. Managed to reach the gate of A.S.S and there it gives up again.Brought the issue to the notice of all guys out there, including their top boss, and it was a usual M&M- A.S.S seen. Instead of looking in to the problem, they started arguing with me and started giving different reasons. There wasn’t a single of them including their boss, who apologized at least. Of course, what else one should one expect from a bunch of non-professionals?
As of today morning, the card is still in at A.S.S and I’m told something needs to be replaced at the clutch assembly and they do not have the part. The usual, I will get back to you in 30 min, and not heard from them since last 5 hours.
It’s been an awful experience of 10 months M&M and their A.S.S in Pune, so I don’t expect it to get any better. The only thing I know is that is not what a customer who spends 10+ laks on a car should expect. There are better options in market for sure.
Does anyone know a reasonable (I know I can’t expect better) contact at M&M whom I can escalate the issue to?

Not unusual for M&M, I think there is a ratio that they have for the number of lemons they produce for each batch of cars. I have experienced extremely poor QC and substandard parts and for most part advisors at the A.S.S. are unable to understand the issues.

Check your PM for a mail ID. Suggest you escalate there.
