Conty Club India - CCI Drive & Meet: A Blast from the Past! October-2024

Introduction

Last weekend, our classic car community came together for an unforgettable drive and meet. With 10 stunning vehicles in attendance, we had members drive from Kerala , Tamilnadu and Karnataka to Pondicherry ( our venue ) and shared our passion for vintage automotive excellence.

Event Highlights

- Scenic drive through Coimbatore - Villupuram & Bangalore - Tiruvannamalai roads.
- 10 Contessa 's participated
- Featured models: 1988 to 1998
- Great food and camaraderie at Le Royal Park , Pondicherry.

Technical Session

We had an intro session amongst the members followed by technical and session and discussions.
Trophies and certificate of participation was distributed to all the members who attended the grand event.









Photoshoot

The next day we had all the cars arriving for the photoshoot session at Pondy marina at 2 pm. It was as if the whole of Pondicherry was turning their heads towards our precious machines.






Conclusion

Our Contessa Owners meet and drive was a resounding success! We're grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication of our community. Stay tuned for upcoming events and join us for more vintage automotive adventures!

What a thread!!! I never knew that these many Contessas still were running on the road. This car was my childhood dream. Usually known as the poor man's Mercedes. It is a shame that Hindustan motors never capitalized on the head start they had in the India automobile market. Cars like these are timeless designs.

OMG. Even after all these years, the entire fleet looks so well cared and tended to. I especially like the Blue color-reminds me of the one which Fiesta S has.

As a kid, the Contessa was my dream car. There used to be a dilapidated Contessa lying near my house and the plan was to buy it cheap and restore it!
Whenever I see a Contessa that childhood memory comes gushing!

Used to see Contessas zipping past the Bus I used to travel when I was kid (maybe at 80kmph )
The shiny blue above looks like a muscle car from US. All are very well maintained and great to see them.

As many said before, for old timers Contessa Classic invokes a lot of nostalgia. This was the Indian luxury car till early 90s. In those days, you can imagine how stunning the look was compared to 800, Padmini, Ambassadors. The tag line was also something similar to that..dont recall exactly

Beautiful. It is so nice to see all your Contessa models, so much loved and kept in tip top condition. Contessa is one car that I have always been a fan of, since my childhood. Fortunately, when I was a child, I think in the 90s, I got multiple rides in my dream car as it was my mom's office vehicle. It still feels as though it was only yesterday. The ride quality was so smooth, comfortable seats, almost sofa type. phew!! such an awesome experience.

I wish it is re-born and relaunched by the Birla group or Isuzu or anyone else who has the rights to relaunch HM cars.

Anyway, hope you all get to keep these beauties as long as possible.

Beautiful nostalgic cars from long gone times.
Contessa was the epitome of having ‘arrived’ and the choice of chariot for Captains of Industry in the 1980’s.
Seeing all these beautifully kept machines gives a feeling of great joy.

My uncle in our Calcutta joint family had two iconic cars in his heydays. One was the Standard 2000, and the other a stunning blue HM Contessa 1800 ISZ. I must have spent countless afternoons chilling in them much to the chagrin of the then company drivers!

Beautiful engine the 1800. I loved it so much that I forced poor retiring Dad to buy the Ambassador 1800 ISZ.
