Quick Meets at Bangalore

alrighty then, let the games begin (or something in those lines)

Part 1:

wakey early (4:17) and after a gathering my gear, i head out (not a soul awake). pick up my navigator for the day and then we head to the Bannerghata exit of the NICE road. almost there, i spot Sajan gaining on us; but i beat him at the toll:

after the toll, we see Arun and Supriyo waiting; Supriyo was on his new CBR. after hellos all around, we start for the next stop - the toll just before the Tumkur exit:

all of a sudden, Akshay shoots past us:

and then Karthik (not the one in my car):

after the toll and past the trucks we see many BHPians vehicles parked on the side. we park and another round of hellos and intros.

then we split.

once through the exit, we stick to the service lane and reach the New Agarwal Bhavan - the spot chosen for the early morning num num. since i saw many taking pictures there, i concentrated on my food and hence, this part of the program is brought to you by other BHPians

once we had our fill, we started for grasslands. my car is designated as the pilot vehicle because my navigator (Karthik) seems to know the route; but actually he was depending on this:

our little convoy progresses and Karthik asks for my camera and starts taking pictures of Supriyo, who was following close behind us.

to his disappointment, Karthik finds out that i've the 18-55mm lens fitted and asks for a short stop to get his Nikon with the long lens out:

and the drive continues..

we then reach a point where we need directions to proceed further (Karthik has switched of the GPS as he had programmed it only till Hesarghatta town).

Shishir and Karthik hop into Shishir's Xylo for a quick recce and tell the rest to wait at the spot:

but some follow them in..

and come the same way back! *green goblin*

anyways, they quickly figure out that that was not the route and after asking a few locals, we're back on track; only this time, Shishir was leading the way:

So, finally after missing few team-bhp meets, I was able to join this one. Again it was a close one because I set the alarm for 4:00 AM, it alerted at 4:00 but I promptly turned it off and slept again. Fortunately I got up again at 5:30 AM.

First quick meet was at NICE-BG Road junction with Suprio, Anil, Karthik and Sajan, later we joined other folks at Tumkur toll and proceeded to have break-fast. After break-fast we reached the grasslands and I should say that it was an excellent location and the weather was complementing it

. After spending good 3hrs with the bhpians some of us started back home.
I have some random clicks and will post it later as these pics are in my laptop now but I am not able to open the laptop, the lock/latch is not releasing

. Waiting for the dell guys .

Part 2: the grasslands

after lot of twists and turns, it seemed we've reached the LZ!

and everybody rushes in

everybody lines up their cars (i had to go really far to get all of them to fit the frame)

the only vehicle that felt right at home was Khan saheb's Gypsy!

Supriyo's CBR

vehicles parked (and no, i didn't rear-end the Gypsy)

suddenly we see Sajan's Verna in a distance; he had separated from the convoy and lost his way.

far away mountains

Vidyut goes snooping around the Gypsy

while Sandeep is looking for bugs

Sajan reaches the spot, finally!

and more people are looking for bugs to shoot!

and the doggie goes what the heck is wrong with these people!

Hey Soumyajit,

I can make it on either 9th or 10th Aug (9th is a holiday on account of EID and 10th is a saturday). The handicrafts fair is on Sunday, 11th Aug so I am game for a ride/meet on either of the above dates.

My wife has booked a stall and will be showcasing handmade jewellery, something she does as a hobby. I'm not sure what other products are going to be showcased here. Will check and revert with more details.

Yes, there will be definitely a photoshoot. I am just praying to the rain God for an overcast sky.

I would request all SLR owners to please carry their equipment. I have left my Canon DSLR at hometown for my wifey to click pics of our kiddo.
I will be carrying my Sony T90 Point and Shoot.

Yippe !! Will probably have it on 10th - Saturday. Reason being if someone has plans on Eid.
Karthik and Sandeep can guide us on the route and breakfast option.

This saturday is my school duty - I have to drop my daughter to school by 8AM and pick up by late noon. I can make it after 8am directly to the location and join you all if you hang in there

9:15-9:30am is the earliest I can reach on saturday 10th.

Yes, it would be possible on Sunday also, but I guess Aditya will miss out as he will be busy with his wife's exhibition work.
Independence day weekend will be a miss for me, as I am travelling hometown on 15th. :(
May be we can settle on Eid day (9th) - if everyone has off and no other plans.
Or may be you can join us directly onsite for breakfast around 9-9:30 on 10th.
We'll take the next meet discussion later during this weekend.

I'll let the pics from this meet come up, else people will start banging my head.

Yes, Sunday 11th Aug is not possible for me. Independence Day week is tentative. I plan to take leave on 16th Aug (Fri) and head out for a much required bike trip.

Nothing confirmed on this front yet.

Saturday? August 10th? C'mon, I am not one among the privileged IT boys who have 2 days off a week! Saturday is a working day for me!

I would be fine with Eid day (9th) or 11th Sunday, or even the next weekend.

Part 3: the DIY

while admiring the Gypsy's awesome wheels, Sanjay (SunnyBoi) notices something out of the ordinary:

it is immediately brought to Khan saheb's attention and he inspects the issue:

initially he doesn't give it a second glance and writes it off as nothing unusual, but then on insistence from everybody (specially Vidyut), he decides to get the wheel off to remove them nuts:

out comes the tool kit and work begins:

a jack is asked for and Sanjay obliges. then comes the million dollar question - where to we keep the jack to lift the wheel (remember, this Gypsy has a SPOA setup).

a spot nearest to the ground is chosen - the differential

let the games begin!

out come the nuts!

at the end, Karthik (KiloAlpha) helps with the tightening of nuts:
