I am in for this crazy idea! If we manage to leave early enough, I believe we can get back by midnight for sure.

Whoa! Lots of places to go to around Bangalore! Never heard about most of these. I'd love to join if the drive is not too far. Would prefer any place within 100 kms of Bangalore. Saturday is preferred over Sunday as (I guess) it would be less crowded anywhere.

KarthikK - Linea
niranjanrvce - Fiesta / CBR250
floyd.bell - mercedes E220
n_aditya - Ninja
brraj - unknown vehicle with superb power-to-weight ratio which is it going to be?
nozzlering - ???
Schoudhury - Ritz
aviorp - Scorpio
Ironh4wk - will join via video conference through iPhone
nileshch - Vento

+1 to that 100 to 125kms should be a good distance to drive (stretch the legs of the vehicle) to and fro for a day

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

I haven't been to any of these:

1. Manchinpalli dam - 40 Kms
2. Kanakpura lake - 40 Kms
3. Muthathi - 95Kms

Having said this, It's more of the journey than the destination for me. I'm in for anything on 5th May.

Sirji, setting a new record? I'm planning to do this in July, so I'll back out from this.

Good option, will add this to the list of places.

We had been there in 2010 and there was just one restaurant. There were some outdoor activities though. The place is quite similar to BR Hills.

Adding few more places. Please do add any other place you guys can think of and we can finalize it by Wed/Thur.

1. Shivanasamudram - 135 Kms
2. Mettur Dam - 202 Kms
3. Manchanabele dam/Big Banyan Tree - 40 Kms
4. Kanakpura lake - 40 Kms
5. Muthathi - 95 Kms
6. Talakad - 136 Kms
7. Hogenekal - 125 Kms
8. Horsely Hills - 186 Kms
9. BR/MM Hills - 185 Kms
10. Ooty - 280 Kms (I think we can do this in about 6 Hours Via the Kollegal stretch)
11. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary - 135 Kms. (Not sure if this would the right time though)

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

Guys, if you want to see Jog falls in full glory, better to go after the monsoon has fully set in. I had gone around a month back and one of my friends went this past week. The picture still looks the same as this - there is only 1 thin stream of water. Rains have started but not enough to increase the water yet. My bathroom shower has more water pressure than this . I will join you guys only if anyone is going in monsoon period around June-July, else I am out - no bathroom shower for me after 400km of drive.

This is how Jog looks in March/April

And Abracadabra! this is how the same place looks in July!!

Which picture looks better??
Manchanbele dam?? By the time we hit 5th gear, we will have reached the destination . 40km seems way too short. Anyway I am fine with any destination, as long as it is within 200 km. Shivanasamudra sounds good.

Updating list with new entries -

KarthikK - Linea
niranjanrvce - Fiesta / CBR250
floyd.bell - mercedes E220
n_aditya - Ninja
brraj - unknown vehicle with superb power-to-weight ratio. which is it going to be?
nozzlering - Manza
Schoudhury - Ritz
aviorp - Scorpio
Ironh4wk - will join via video conference through iPhone
BulZire - Lancer
nileshch - Vento
_chikku - zen
raj.barcode - i20 / optra

@
condor - sir, is horseley hills the one on the Tirupati route? I've seen some diversion board there on that highway, never been there though.

n_aditya suggested Krishnagiri dam. That is also a nice option. We can take our cars/bikes right up to the water there. I had gone there a year ago on my pulsar 220. Here are some pictures of Krishnagiri dam that I and a few of my friends did on our bikes.

Some taxi wallas were washing their cars right up at the banks of this reservoir!!

Try the interior roads to Bidadi from the dam, Its fun with lots of twists.
Because you will still have to go to Ramnagar for BF!

PS: The Jog falls in glory is nice!

Karthik, kind of - the normal route to Tirupati would be through Chittoor. Horsely hills is north-west of Madanapalli.

Horsley hills is more like a place where school kids can be taken for a day's picnic. I dont remember if there is enough place outside the TTDC compound to park all the cars. Though you can park towards the south side which has a gently sloping granite hill-side.

In comparison, Nandi feels like a hill station to some extent.
