In an attempt to clear my oft-besmirched username (the latest variation is 'hide'-rashok, yep another one to add to the growing collection), I managed to put everything off and meet the guys yesterday.
I met Nikkibike and JayZ at the International Stadium at 7.20ish. It was not difficult to home-in onto nikki's immaculate looking Swift with its shining alloys. There was a used-car mela happening in the grounds and Nikki & JayZ were checking out the maal. They came over when I pulled-in. We were shooting the breeze with engine-vengine talk and various happenings on the forum when JayD arrived in his
new restoration project, a '63 Amby Mark I (I'm dumb in this stuff, so please correct me if I'm wrong about the year or the model).
The conversation turned to the Amby and other classic cars, pocket bikes, buggies, low-bonnet Jeeps, Tata Xenons, Nanos, Getz CRDIs, T.A.S.S. etc etc. By then Silverknight & AravindWarrier drove over in Silverknight's brand new White Swift VDi. There were now three Swifts and an Amby parked in our area.
We then locked all cars and moved to the nearby BTH in the Amby for dosas. After lots of dosas, coffee and discussions about a lot of stuff we left back for the cars. Nikki left a short while later. We then discussed the unearthly-loud
original horn in the Amby, and JayD gave us an ear-splitting demo (without warning) with the bonnet up. An autorikshaw driver cruised by and asked us about the Amby. On hearing the vintage of the Amby, he saluted JayD and the Amby, and left with the exhortation of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan". (Don't ask me why he said that).
The talk then turned to ICE for a bit. After poking fun at me for my "SPL" setup, JayD said that he'd rather get
two cars for restoration than buy an amp (somewhat like a certain friend of ours who bought a new scooter instead of buying 16" alloys and tyres for his car).
JayZ then wanted to check out the difference the Apollo CAI made to a petrol Swift. We had an Apollofied Swift & a regular Swift right there.
I was a bit apprehensive of the traditional Kochi "shakedown" test but since Nikki (designated "shakedown" master of Kochi) had left already
and since JayZ is a 'gentle' man, we decided we'd go ahead. JayZ took the wheel of my Swift (Apollofied & Remussed). Two revs from the car set off Silverknight's VDi's anti-theft sensors
(You need to adjust the sensitivity, silverknight!). JayZ and JayD took the car for a spin around the stadium. Then they drove JayZ's stock Swift (petrol). The results of the back-to-back test are best explained by them.
In between, silverknight & AravindWarrier managed to start the Amby and take her for a TD around the stadium. As soon as they were out, JayD bet they wouldn't shift to third at first attempt. From what we could hear, he won the bet.
Then we turned to ICE and listened to music in JayZ's Swift and then in mine. Soon, it was time for me to go. As I left, I heard JayD calling for a repeat Dosa session.
Thanks for a great evening, Guys! It is always a great feeling to be with you folks, talking cars and ICE, after a long week of putting the nose to the grindstone. I was great to meet silverknight & AravindWarrier (I hadn't met them yet).
