the new MHAWK gives about 120 BHP. I do agree that this engine is atleast capable of 140BHP like the 2.2 Dicor Engine of the Safari.

The mHawk engine was developed keeping in mind more than 140bhp and in the range of 150-155bhp. It was initially planned that the engine will have 140 bhp in India, but Mahindra reduced it to 120 bhp and the justification was quality of fuel.

However, more than quality of fuel, IMO, it is the limitaion of chassis as the engine is mounted quite high along with passengers in Scorpio, and this gives is the reason behind the somewhat poor dynamics on the road.

@GTO - you're right there about the drive train
@aaggoswami - your reasoning is very plausible - one would not want the engine and other moving bits to suddenly buzz off leaving one sitting in a stationary body shell like in the cartoons eh?
Jokes apart however, I do hope that they find a solution to this reasonably soon, so the Scorp Mhawk will become even better that it is right now!
cheers

So, which one did gbpscars settle for eventually?

Any how, whether this thread helped him or not is another matter, it sure helped me for a thorough comparison between the two since I recently aquired a used non CRDe SLX . The knowledge here is amazing, full of Scorpio Gurus. Thanks BHPians.

My two bit : the non CRDe is easier and cheaper to maintain being a simpler rear suspension and engine design. As far as 'handling' goes, I accept the whacky rear end of all Scorpios (leaf vs coil etc.). If I wanted to do 150kmph and feel secure cornering at high speeds, I would rather be in a lower slung car designed for that sort of speed with the safety features (air bags, ASR etc.) included. The Scorpio is a 'tough' car with high ground clearance and built for all terrain. Its not intended for use as a speed machine, even if one wants to call it an SUV.

Moral of my rant: Drive within limits. The vehicle's, the road and your limits.

i have heard something else, and this news was from an insider of mahindra. it was not the limitation of the chassis but the gearbox due to which the power had to be reduced by 20 bhp. but this problem was solved. Still in the interests of FE and driveability, the power was not increased to 140 bhp. also the other reason stated was that in a survey conducted by mahindra, scorpio customers did not need more power but they demanded more FE.
