Re: Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros vs Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue vs Others

For me, 8/11 options are knocked out just with the wheelbase which translates to real comfort in the back seat.
So the real competition is between Kylaq, Syros and 3XO where the 3XO wins on features and performance it looses out quite miserably on bootspace.
Further if Diesel + proper automatic is also a filter, Syros is the only match out of these 3.

Kudos to Skoda and Kia to bring these latest cars in a hotly contested segment and they are squarely competing in top 3 spots.

Comes as no surprise considering 75%+ votes are grabbed by these 3 and Kylaq is leading by quite a margin!

Re: Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros vs Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue vs Others

The Mahindra 3XO gets my vote. It is built like a tank, has great petrol and diesel motors, tons of space, and enough features for most people. Just wish Mahindra provides the 6-speed TC in the diesel variant as well. The second choice will be either the Sonnet or the no-nonsense Brezza.

Nexon is my top choice from the list. It offers excellent value for money. I got the Create+ S DCA last July, and I’ve had zero issues since. I'm really enjoying the smooth DCA, fantastic music system, and the 360 camera setup

The 3X0 is also a good option, but the music system and boot space didn't impress me, along with the attitude of the Mahindra dealership.

Re: Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros vs Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue vs Others

Our family has been considering an upgrade for our Dzire into this segment for a while now, and we were very seriously leaning towards the Sonet. The main reason for me was that I wanted a 360 degree camera that showed me the lanes when I flipped the indicator stalk.

The 18.5L OTR price tag in Chennai, no auto hold brakes, and the DCT is what’s had us hold off. Just feels very hard to justify that cost.

The Syros looks very promising, but I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE 2 spoke steering wheels. So that put me off immediately, cause otherwise it checks all the boxes.

If I had to spend my money today, it would go to the Sonet/Syros.

Second would be the Venue (still holding out for the refresh and hoping they add autohold brakes and a 360 cam).

I haven’t checked out the Kylaq yet, but it does look promising. Just don’t know if I can trust the service network/costs.

3XO design just doesn’t work for me. Family wants to try something other Suzuki even though I like what they’ve been doing.

Tata I won’t entertain because of the post sales experience and reliability roulette.

The segment is so hot, and as a buyer looking into getting into this segment, things are looking awesome!

If the sales actually translate to the vote share that Kylaq has in this poll, then Skoda is truly set in the Indian market. But alas, that's not how an average buyer thinks in our country.

Re: Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros vs Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue vs Others

The 3XO for me. So much so that I'm pitting it against cars like the Verna and Elevate instead of cars from its own segment. It is a great balance of safety, power and features.

I look for future proof aspects in cars, because not only do I want to hold on to them for as long as possible, they should also appear fresh when it's time for them to find a new home. On most of those parameters, the 3XO comes out on top.

Re: Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros vs Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue vs Others

Kylaq - The driver's car.

Syros - The passenger's car.

Brezza - The odd Sub 4m car that doesn't qualify for Sub 4m CESS. Why MSIL? Why?

3XO - Overall winner.

Unlike most cars in its segment, which are based on hatchback platforms, the 3XO boasts a platform of larger vehicle, similar in size to a Creta. This translates to exceptional space and ride quality without compromising performance or safety, all while offering significant savings on CESS. The 3XO's suspension has a solid feel that inspires confidence on rough roads which many others lack. However, the potent engines should have been paired with a better calibrated steering. The boot space couldn't have been increased any more without serious re-engineering which wouldn't have made sense considering the cost. The speakers also falls short of expectations, but it can be solved with aftermarket options without much of a hassle.

The Syros has managed to create more interior space without sacrificing boot space, but this comes at the cost of SUV stance, rendering it more akin to an MPV. The rear seat cannot seat 3 as it isn't as wide as Brezza or 3XO. The rear seat experience is marred by the ride quality which should been plusher considering how Kia has focused on the rear seat experience with reclinable ventilated rear seats and abundant leg room. While the polarizing design doesn't bother me, the headlamp placement raises concerns. Still, if Kia had disclosed pricing and safety ratings earlier, I would have considered it alongside the 3XO.

The Kylaq was also a contender owing to the design, ride and handling, and performance. But ownership experiences of VW and Skoda cars shared by friends and family members eroded my confidence. Kylaq's limited space was a concern due to my family members' height as well.

Thats a lovely assessment matrix. However, surprised to see the performance of Kylaq rated at 3.5 compared to 4.5 for Elevate, city (NAs) and 3XO and Sonet turbos.
Kylaq's 1.0 TC is probably the best in performance and drivability in this list, alongwith 3XO's TGDI. Also CVT in itself would be -1 straightaway in 'performance' column just because of that rubberband effect.

Fair point. My assessment of the Kylaq stems from an earlier test drive of the Virtus, which had the same 1.0 TSI-TC AT combo that had a disappointingly pronounced turbo lag at city speeds. Will adjust based on the Kylaq experience a bit.

The Honda VTEC adds back the -1 from the CVT in my opinion. While the rubberband effect is present, it is smooth at lower speeds and a screamer (not a dig at the Elevate's horrible sound insulation) at higher revs. Something about NA petrols still appeals to me more than turbos, although that may be more of a personal bias than advice for others. (in any case, not considering any of the Hondas due to their terrible cabin refinement levels. Skoda and Mahindra are streets ahead in this dept)

My 'performance' column is not outright 0-100 type performance, but rather their usability at various commonly found scenarios in Indian driving conditions. Stop-Go city traffic, calm cruising on expressways, ability to pull off quick overtakes on single carriageways etc.

This grinds my gears so much. Like it makes no sense. Brezza is such a good car for sub 4m audience. It’s fairly spacious, looks great, heck it’s even a 4 star safety rated car which is rare for a Maruti.

And then the management does the most brain dead move by putting their 1.5L in it. Neither is the engine enthusiast level good like the 1.5 turbos of VW and Hyundai, nor is it even as good as the 1.5 NA of Honda. It adds an extra tax of 2-2.5 lakhs for absolutely no reason. Why would anyone even buy a sub 4m car without the tax benefit. Just upgrade to the GV which is much more practical.

And it’s not like Maruti doesn’t have engines. They could have just plonked their 1.0 turbo from the fronx and immediately reduced the price by 15+% (even more because that engine is most likely cheaper too). Or if they wanted a simple engine for your normal family they could have just used their 1.2NA.

The irony of such polls/surveys is that - people will vote for Kylaq and when it comes to buying the car, they will go and buy a Hyundai or Maruti.

So such surveys/polls dont mean anything.

Re: Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros vs Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue vs Others

I took family to a nearby Kia showroom.

The first thing kids did was to get into the Syros, and were simply enjoying like anything. I've never seen that with any other car. My wife asked me if we can switch our Polo for Syros. For a moment, I forgot all the driving fun Polo has to offer. Imagine the Syros parked next to the EV6 and none of us opened the door of EV6.

Syros has so many features that it can put a 50 Lac car to shame. The amount of space, features and 'feel good' factor that Syros brings is simply unmatched. Sort of what Windsor has done to crossover segment.
There's no doubt Syros will be the new face of Kia India. The car is THAT good.

I voted for Nexon. I own the Fearless DCA variant, and I am absolutely loving it.
Been a year since the purchase and clocked close to 10k and it's been niggle free. It is loaded with features, and it has everything that I need.

3XO
1. I drive a XUV 2013 vintage, never had a problem. Service is what you demand. So Mahindra for me is reliable and rugged.

2. Design is radical enough but not ugly, I even kind of liked the clean lines of the TUV.

3. Skoda looks good but is actually a small car. I'm no fan of Kia - more frills, less substance, not really a value proposition.

4. By width and wheel base seems to be the most spacious - boot complaints notwithstanding.

Re: Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros vs Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue vs Others

Off topic post, mods feel free to shift this post to whatever thread you find suitable.

I was browsing through the forum and scrolled down to the bottom, when I found the Tata Sierra restoration thread and the Kia Syros vs competitors thread in my recommendations. I noticed how the Syros looks more like a modern Sierra than the new Sierra itself. Like it's got the rear window right, it's got the proportions kind of right? And even the bonnet's front shut line is in line with Tata's current design language, something they would totally do.

The attached screenshot for reference:
