Re: Hyundai Alcazar vs Kia Carens vs Tata Safari vs Mahindra XUV700 vs Others

I voted for others because there is no car in this list that fits "a car that meets all requirements".
Here is the reason - If it is petrol 7 seater, I will spend extra for the Hycross. If it is a diesel 7 seater - 700 AWD or Crysta RWD or Scorpio N 4WD. It depends on the use case and requirements.

In Crysta, the only downside is that it does not come with automatic anymore. Still a recently used Crysta is better than the Safari, Carens, Hector Plus, Scorpio N if it is 2WD.

Replacement for my Tata Nexon AMT Diesel

Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy a replacement for my 5 year old Tata Nexon Diesel AMT. The car has done about 61k kms in last 5 years and I get a very good mileage. In city, I get about 20 KMPL and on highways I have seen even 30 KMPL (On MID and not Tank Full to Tank full method).

My requirement is that I am looking for a larger car with 6/7 seat configuration as my family is growing. Have a Dog that needs his own space in the car.

Car should be easy on pocket (TCO) and should have good mileage.

Few cars that I have shortlisted are as follows

1. Tata Safari
2. Suzuki Invicto (As TOYOTA has huge waiting)
3. BYD E7 Max
4. Hyundai Alcazar (Diesel)
5. Kia Carens (Diesel)
6. Maruti XL6

Have not added XUV 700 in the mix as the mileage and waiting period is a deterrant. Don't want to pay and wait for ages for the car to be delivered.

All the above cars that I am looking for is AT. Kindly suggest with a Budget of 25 lakhs, which is the best family car that I can pick and also should meet my requirement of good mileage, low TCO and reliable.

Invicto is a good choice. Tons of space. Enough power. Low fuel and maintenance bills. You can go ahead and buy one with your eyes closed.

Re: Hyundai Alcazar vs Kia Carens vs Tata Safari vs Mahindra XUV700 vs Others

Invicto would be the best bet but it can be a tad bit over your budget and if you are willing to stretch your budget it would be best option for you with good efficiency and low maintenance bills.

But if you are not willing to stretch your budget and want a good mileage you can look towards the diesel options but be mindful of the DPF issues and if you are still okay with diesel powertrain and want to go ahead with it you should definitely check out Carens as it is very comfortable and has plenty of space for everyone. It should we easier to maintain as well.

You can also consider getting Alcazar but you would lose on space and alcazar also comes with a higher price tag as well. So pick accordingly

Re: Hyundai Alcazar vs Kia Carens vs Tata Safari vs Mahindra XUV700 vs Others

While I have no personal experience with the top 4 vehicles on your list, I can present my view on the Carens and XL6 based on my usage with them over the last 2.5 years or so.

I drive an pre-owned XL6 AT and have covered close to 20k. We have two Carens in the family (one Diesel AT and the other Petrol DCT).

While the XL6 is extremely comfortable, especially with the captain seats, it fades in almost every other aspect when compared with the Carens. The Carens is way ahead in terms of features, performance and overall sense of luxury/quality.

Agreed, their on-road price will vary by close to 2L, but it is very much worth the extra amount.

BYD E7 Max would be the choice if road tax is exempted in your state for electric vehicles.
Carens diesel will be the budget luxury choice in mid variant and above. If you are concerned about the power output you can go for a engine remap. It gives decent mileage too.
Suzuki Invicto is a good choice but above your budget of 25 Lakhs. The car is not feature rich. If you don't mind average interiors and your running is very high then it makes perfect sense.
Love the butch looks and road presence of Safari but beware of Tata niggles and low mileage.

Speaking from someone who has done almost 12K roadtrips with our dog from Bangalore and Hyderabad: avoid electric cars for now. Charging places may not allow dogs to be with you in the food area and so, you will struggle to spend the charging time on highway.

I agree, we have Labrador and were thinking to go electric for new car. We do a lot of road trip and yearly twice do Bangalore to Mirzapur. During last trip, was on lookout for charging infrastructure and conveniences but almost everywhere there were restrictions to bring in our Labrador inside food courts. Normal dhabas and other open air restaurants do not have an issue to get your pet along with you. Charging infra is very nascent on most of the highways and I have seen people struggle to charge their EVs due to lots of reasons - not connecting, not working etc

Dropped our plan for EV and now looking to upgrade to an automatic due to medical reasons - we have Petrol Nexon 2022 model and have put 55k kms in less than 3 years.

Re: Hyundai Alcazar vs Kia Carens vs Tata Safari vs Mahindra XUV700 vs Others

I own both a Verna Diesel and a Nexon Ev. In my experience, Hyundai is way better than Tata when it comes to reliability and service experience.
For this reason alone I’d say you skip the Safari. Alcazar is a very good option among the shortlisted cars. If you don’t mind switching to Ev’s , BYD is an excellent choice as well.
XL6 and carens are good options but they are too bland design wise.

Safari all the way . The other cars you mentioned will just not satisfy you once you have driven a Safari . Since you already own a Tata so nothing new for you wrt service and after sales

The waiting period of XUV 700 has reduced a lot and currently around 4-6 weeks when I checked with the dealer during November 1st week. It might vary for different cities but it would be better to check with your local M&M dealer once.

If you want the doggo to be comfortable the only choice is the invicto since your multi day journeys will also have multiple bags.
