Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

I'm not tall so my comments are more generalized.

As someone who is not very heavily built but with long limbs - arms and legs, I find it difficult to find a suitable position in some cars. If the steering is fine, pedals are far, and if pedals are fine, the steering is far. It could be the other way round as well as few cars set the pedals too deep. So have your friend try out extensively and shortlist cars with rake and reach adjustment of steering which makes life much more simpler.

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

Seat height adjustment is for people who need to sit higher than what the vehicle default is.

Its inexistence wouldn't matter since your friend simply won't need it. I think he should try test driving the ScorpioN base variant, since its designed as a taller car that can accomodate tall people by default.

Other options are abit crude, and this is newly designed.

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

Honda City is highly recommended from personal experience. I've got a relative who's approx 6.3 and weighs 120+ and he has no issues getting in or out of the car. Also, behind him when he's driving, a person of 5.10 is able to sit comfortably.

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

Hi,
My friend is 6'2 with around 90kgs and he was using Hyundai Creta 2017 model.
We have travelled long distances in that car and he feels comfortable only.

Behind the driver (My Friend in Driving Seat) there is reasonable space offered in Creta for rear passenger.

Try the Kia Carens, if he doesn't mind the MUV looks and size. I own one (w/ sunroof) and my brother-in-law who is 6'4" still fits with inches to spare, in both front and rear seats. He currently drives a Hyundai Tucson (the previous generation) and if you can find that used it'll work as well.

I know some members suggested Honda City, I own that also (2022 w/ sunroof) and can guarantee it will not be the best for anyone taller than 6'. BTW the Honda Elevate seems to have plenty of headroom, so check it out.

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

My suggestion is Slavia/Virtus or Kushaq/Taigun. Whichever looks good to your friend. There's height adjustment as well as ample of leg room in VW/Skoda cars. Tell your friend to give these a shot. I think these will work perfectly for him. Don't go with the outer appearance of these cars they are quite spacious inside.
If he is reluctant with these brands or has some reservations. Then his only choice is City. City is good for tall guys. I've a cousin who's 6'4 and he drives both City and Slavia quite comfortably. I'm almost 5'11 and I can comfortably sit behind him. So do give these a try. I won't suggest Elevate since I'm yet to see the car in person and have received mixed reviews from all who have seen it. Most of guys with my height or more find it uncomfortable and preferred City in its comparison. None has driven it. I would suggest if your friend check any of these cars do take a long test drive.

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

1 obvious point would be to avoid sunroof variants as they reduce headspace

Have suggested the Bolero Neo. He is going to try that out. XUV300: the problem is that with the driver seat adjusted to his proportions,
the seat behind him becomes useless. So it essentially becomes a strict 3 seater.

Fuel Economy concerns with the Kushaq/Virtus family. Plus they start a bit higher up the price range as well.

You got it perfect. This is exactly what he described to me. That in most cars, no matter how he adjusts the seat, his knees or legs end up touching the dashboard or the steering.

No longer on sale. Plus that car felt compact even to me at 5'10". It's hardly going to fit in a 6'5".

In my observation, the adjustable seat starts out a bit lower than the non-adjustable. This is noticeable in my car as well, where I find the passenger seat almost comparable to my driver seat which is set at the highest position.

MPV is a no go due to parking size restrictions. I have told him about the sunroof thing, but he is mostly looking at lower variants due to budget constraints so sunroof isn't available anyways.

I had also recommended the Honda City to him, but the road conditions where he lives are pretty poor. The City has cushy suspension and will bottom out, especially with those kind of loads in the car.

His problem however is quite unique. He is a gentle giant. He's almost 6'5", and is not quite on the superleggera side.

As a result, he is finding it very difficult to find a car where he fits properly, has a good safety rating, and is decently frugal (Not expecting Maruti 800 FE figures, but considering it's going to be city heavy)

And he is on a budget. He's willing to go up to 13-14L.

Most of the full sized SUVs don't offer seat height adjustment in the lower variants, so XUV700, Scorpio-N, Harrier and the ilk are out.

He fits in a XUV300, but that practically disables the seat behind him.

I suggested he try a used higher tier vehicle, but he isn't too keen on getting a used vehicle.

What else can I suggest him?
Hi - my kids have a friend who's 6'4" - and he fits in both the Seltos and surprisingly the Kiger. So check em out...

Cheers!

Thank you.

Seltos - safety rating not good enough.

Kiger - That is a good info point. I didn't have any clarity on it's interior space w.r.t. tall folks.

Triber is 4 star and even if he kills space behind him, he still has a small 3 row for kids. The biggest downer is engine. If the ride is only within city like Pune, triber makes a strong case.

Right. Most of the use will be within the city. I'll try suggesting the Triber to him.

I didn't know triber was sub-4m!

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

I'm 6'4" myself with long legs. My TUV 300's driving seat is inadequate and I've had to add an expensive imported memory foam seat cushion on top of the seat. Without it, with seat height adjusted to maximum, my knees still point skywards.

I guess the Bolero Neo would be the same as well.

OEMs make cars suitable for the general populace and hence sometimes, big and heavy vehicles are still ill-suited for tall folks.

Besides, what I've learnt in all my years with cars is this - tall and big people need either of the below:
1) Vertical clearance - a high 'H' point (please google this) - best found on truly big vehicles, such as American pickup trucks, Escalades and other such bulky body on frame SUVs.
2) Horizontal clearance - we're talking sedans with a minimum of 4.5m of length but should be a longer sedan for best results, so that you can lie down into the driving seat and then streeetch yourself out horizontally. How much ever you stretch yourself, this sort of sedan has to be long enough to still offer space for the passengers behind you. It's the climbing down and getting up that will be tough with this option.

The net result of options 1 & 2 above should be the same - when seated, a tall person's thighs should be parallel to the ground. Their knees shouldn't point up to the sky, or they will begin rounding their lower back, opening a pandora's box of back problems.

Surprisingly, option #2 has worked best for me comfort-wise. Nissan Altima (sold as "Teana" in India, now discontinued) is a surprising fit for me and others even taller than me. But my ego has made me prefer SUVs till now.

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

Hello there,

Being a six footer, I can understand the problems he is facing in sitting comfortably in the driver's seat.

Unfortunately, there has to be a trade off between driver seat comfort and rear seat space. Had an E class (W212), and with my experience, the rear seat passengers were forced to practice yoga .

Hondas tend to limit the seat travel to enable minimum space intrusion on the rear passenger. My trusty Honda City (2011) forced me to rotate the seat frame backwards tending me to look through the rear seat window for planning junctions.

That being said, I was comfortable in the Ford Figo (!) and Ford Ecosport, which led to me realise that Ford generally makes their cars comfortable for tall people.

VW group cars have generous seat travel be it the Polo or the Superb. However, you better pray that your rear seat passengers are your besties!

Maruti Swift surprising had good seat travel for me (First and Second Gen), in fact more than the Honda City. A couple of Maruti Suzukis are good. But the caveat here is check whether the Maruti Suzuki you are trying out is available in the international market as well. Then the probability of having good seat travel will be higher, if that makes sense.

All in all, a point to note is whichever car is available in the International Market as well, will prove to be a good indicator of seat comfort. They are the ones that are suited for people of all sizes.

Hope this helps and happy car hunting!

Re: Car recommendations for a friendly giant | Height 6'5"

I’m 6’2” and would advise avoiding all sedans. The knee will touch the steering most definitely. I had to push the seat to the lowest height to sit comfortably.

When I push Kia Seltos to lowest, also adjusting the thighs to low and steering up, there’s no discomfort. Normal crossovers such as Seltos, Creta shouldn’t be a problem I think. XUV700 and Scorpio are good bets.
