Voted for Toyota.

1) Personally loved HyRyder over Grand Vitara
2) Toyota service is great (Maruti just has too many cars).

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Hyryder | Which sibling would you choose & why?

It might just be my own tastes, but the Grand Vitara looks more appropriately proportioned and cleaner than the Hyryder in the front, though the Hyryder has the more solid-looking rear (I hate that Hyundai-Kia-like light bar on the Vitara).
That said, if I ever buy these twins, I'd only go for the Strong Hybrid, ergo Toyota it is.

Test driven the Hyryder top variant yesterday. Experience with TD votes in favour of Toyota.

I feel Grand Vitara does look better in person with dual tone colors, full length taillights to add to the appeal.

Voted for Grand Vitara

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Hyryder | Which sibling would you choose & why?

Two things are worthy of consideration nowadays when paying the ‘Toyota Premium’.
1. I echo the degradation of Toyota Service. The last time I had my dad’s Yaris serviced at Nippon Toyota (Kochi), I had just one concern, with a noise coming from the front suspension for 5 min at the start of the day. SA was reluctant to investigate it inspite of my pressing him as I had an upcoming trip to Bangalore. Instead he wanted me to do some 3M treatment worth around Rs 1500. Finally he settled for a visual inspection. I gave this in my feedback, but haven’t received a single follow up call. I did not get my car back at the promised time either.

2. Much more concerning is Toyota’s recent announcement that they are going to dilute their quality standards to allow defects that are cosmetic and don’t impact performance or safety. It seems innocent, but to me it’s a foot in the door that goes against why people pay a premium for Toyota

Reference: https://www.thedrive.com/news/43430/...oduction-going

Both of these beg the question of why Toyota over Maruti and why pay a premium? For established platforms these changed standards may not impact, but for new ones like Hyryder - I’m not convinced.

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Hyryder | Which sibling would you choose & why?

Between these two, I would go with Toyota. I would go with strong hybrid only.

1. There's a Toyota showroom 5 mins away from my home
2. Toyota would be a better after sales experience (just a feeling)
3. The strong hybrid is a Toyota system so would be better to go with them, it's also cheaper than Maruti
4. Toyota is giving 3 years standard warranty vs Maruti's 2 years

Since both are effectively the same car and boast excellent service, Voted for Hyryder simply for the brand snob value

Since both are same cars, voted for Hyryder simply due to T logo. But I like the front looks of Grand Vitara more. It looks mature.

I wouldn't buy either but I voted For the Maruti and this is only because I find rhe Toyota Hyryder Youtube campaign immensely cheesy and irritating.

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Hyryder | Which sibling would you choose & why?

Went to a Toyota dealership to see the latest price revision for the Fortuner, since we’re planning to replace our type 2 Fortuner soon.

Saw the HyRyder in flesh.

People were flocking like crazy towards the car, this is my first time I have seen a Toyota dealership jam packed with people.

Got to touch and feel the car:
- The doors are so damn light! I just couldn’t believe it, I felt the display Glanza standing inside the showroom had heavier doors than the HyRyder.
- The rear headroom is quite less, a 6ft person is a tight fit.
- From outside the car is quite imposing and looks big, but on the inside the space vanishes!
- Boot was locked since battery was disconnected, maybe because they didn’t want to show its shortcoming.
- Black HyRyder looks sexy! MS has done a blunder by not offering a black with the Grand Vitara.
- The dealership had only full Hybrids on display and for test drive as well. No mild hybrids in sight.

So it looks like mild hybrids will be peddled in the form of the Grand Vitara and strong hybrids in the form of the HyRyder.

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Hyryder | Which sibling would you choose & why?

Had seen Hyryder before but today finally saw a Grand Vitara on Bombay roads. Boy the car looks handsome and commands some respect on the road. It has a good size and presence what it deserves, and the side and rear looks dope. If I was looking for a sub 20 sedate hybrid allrounder, my choice is this, even though Hyryder is 50k cheaper. Competition would be tough for me to choose between Vitara and Hondas City Hybrid - in which I would most likely still go for Grand Vitara.

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Hyryder | Which sibling would you choose & why?

If I have to buy these cars, I'd stick with the traditional ICE mild hybrid engine.

Now, to sum up the advantages of each car-

Hyryder-

1. Toyota badge.
2. Better looking front amd overall, the better looking sibling.
3. Famed Toyota after sales service.

Grand Vitara-

1. Better looking rear.
2. Black and brown dual tone interiors.
3. Maruti's famed and wide after sales service.

Now I am someone who generally prioritises the interior aesthetics of the car over the exterior looks but in this case, the difference is very minor and the Toyota badge is enough to ensure that I vote for the Toyota.

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Hyryder | Which sibling would you choose & why?

Voted for the Toyota. Major advantages of Hyryder:
  • Toyota provides 3 years 100,000 kms standard vehicle warranty whereas Maruti provides only a 2 year, 40,000 km warranty
  • Warranty is extendable to 8 years and 220,000 km for the Hyryder versus 4 years & 80,000 km for the Grand Vitara
  • For the strong hybrid variants, Toyota offers 8 years and 160,000 km standard warranty on the battery. Maruti has not mentioned anything specific for battery warranty, although they may come out with something soon. However it is likely to be for a shorter period and/or fewer kilometres than the Toyota going by the above.
  • Toyota offers free 24x7 roadside assistance for 3 years while this is chargeable for the Suzuki.
  • Hyryder strong hybrid variants start almost Rs. 3 lakhs less than the lowest Grand Vitara strong hybrid variant (The S Strong Hybrid of the Hyryder).
  • Comparable strong hybrid variants feature for feature are 50,000 rupees lower for the Hyryder. So it is a no brainer to buy the Hyryder if you are getting the strong hybrid.

Voted Grand Vitara.
Grand Vitara looks much better in flesh. Built quality is quite good unlike other Maruti Suzuki vehicles. Usage of soft touch materials on the dashboard do provide a very premium experience.
Also Maruti did a commendable job by providing a AWD powertrain option , which can be very useful for a lot of buyers, looking forward to take their cars for some off roading experience.

Voted for Toyota Hyryder

Reason - Simple, my preference is Strong Hybrid and its Toyota's Technology. God forbids if anything goes wrong, then I would definitely not want to rely on Maruti for A.S.S. which may end up extra days in their Service Centre. Also, Toyota holds more significant brand value than Maruti anyday.
