Why dont you look at new Honda CRV. or if you can strech your budget you may consider the pajero also..

Crv is out of the question as it does not have a diesel option and the pajero not only being out of my budget i feel it is not worth that much. Terracan is also way out of my league

Hyundai Tucson would be a very good option with its very torquey CRDi engine
As u have mentioned about driving in some bad road (or even off roading) then its better to buy a SUV than a sedan....
What about Mitsubishi Monteiro @ 18lacs..?

Looks like it is the best option i have as of now... if the endeavour is really launched this month it would be a worthy competeitor...

I was in the exact same position a year and a half back and due to the lack of a proper suv had to buy an innova, looks like things havent changed ... The suv that i was so anxiously waiting for is nowhere to be seen

If i were you, i would wait not one but two months for the endevour, its so mean a machine !!! Plus, news is that the new Endy is gonna be even more rock-starish, more macho and is gonna have a bomb of an engine, plus gr8 packaging. And maybe they might just drop the old school suv concept of leaf springs, and smoothen the ride. Ford nowadays is extremely bullish with its plans and is ready to give in its best, as supported the lovely fiesta and the upcoming fusion TDCi. So i suggest you wait.

However if the wait turns out to be longer than you can withstand, i suggest you wait more ! Jokes apart, i mean you should, in that case, buy a second hand SUV of your choice (Pls. refrain completely from buying a safari-it'll ruin you), and continue to wait on the Endy. Waise, i think the new Endy is just around the corner.. !

As i have already mentioned earlier i cannot postpone my purchase for more than a month.
I have been waiting for a proper suv for more than a year and a half now

Hi Cool Dude,

I suggest you drop the Endeavour for the following reasons

1) Has probably the worst ride quality of all the vehicles in the price range. Forget rural roads, even small pot holes in Bangalore gives a hard ride to all the occupants. Leaf Springs are to blame. When we spoke to the sales guy, he told that the new endy will have engine, exterior and interior upgrade but no suspension upgrade

2) The center row has very bad thigh support and you sit propped up with your knees in a upward position. The back seat is a joke. It's about 15cm above floor. You can sit in a padmasana with your feet on floor.

I would suggest you look at Pajero. It is built like a tank, decent power and torque and great ride quality. My only crib is the paint scheme.

I guess the Nissan X-trail at 21L will also be above your budget then ??

Safari is also built rough and tough but a poor mans SUV in India.

I've TD'ed the pajero... brilliant turbo diesel engine even though its a bit dated now. The ride quality is excellent and in terms of handling, no other SUV comes close. Also as someone else mentioned, its built like one tank. However the price of a new one will be north of 20 lacs.
