Advice needed to buy TATA sierra 2nd hand

Dear Boarders,
I am looking for TATA Sierra vehicle 2nd Hand. There is this vehicle of 96 model. It has clocke 1,61,000 km's till now. I will be the 5th owner if I buy this vehicle. Engine overhauling is done recently and it has run 4000km there after. It has New tyres, Power window and power steering also. Seat Covers are moderately new. Owner is quoting a price of 95000Rs. Could you please let me know as what is the best price to buy this vehicle.
The only draw back according to owner is engine is less powered and it can't climb the steep surface. Engine gets heated up it seems.

I need your advice on the above.

Kindly do let me know your views on the same.

Thanks in advance

dude cargeek...don't buy this car...i'm sure you will find better sierras in the market. besides, after 1.6 lakh kms and 4 owners, an engine overhaul and heating up problems the car shouldn't sell for more than 50-60k IMO. sounds like someones trying to sell you a lemon.

stay away from it...the only thing going for it is new tyres...its way too expensive for a car with such a long history...you cannot verify the quality of engine work too suppose...keep looking.

i sold my 1996 Sierra in 2005 for 80K which had done 1.4L Km.
should not pay more than 65K for the same as might have to spend about 20K on Engine...

Sierra's are not easy to maintain...
My father called it White elephant

Better to stay away from this car. the heating issue & not climbing an incline points at some serious problems requiring major expenses. KEEP AWAY.

And if you wanna read about more horror stories about the Sierra's problems I suggest you PM fellow member Bass&Trouble. His experience alone should be enough to give you a reality check on the monster!

If he is willing to part from it for around 25000rs then its okay. This way you can recover atleast 15000 from it as a scrap vehicle if things go wrong.
When we sold our 118NE after 4 odd years (No engine rebuild issues too) all we got is 30,000 and we were the first owners. I doubt a sierra will command more resale.

Dont buy it. Sometime back there was one Siera for sell in my building. It had done only 55K kms and he was quoted 75K only. It was topend model. With alloys and everything.

One quick advice lest it bothers you:
DONT GO FOR A USED TATA SIERRA. NEVER!!
You'll perhaps have all sorts of issues with this rough boy. I v heard stories from my Jatt friends who used to own some of these, and every other day would spend their day with mechanics working on one or the other issue.

DO NOT buy it, you should get 96 model for around 40-45k, my friend bought one for 60k loaded , mag wheels included, you should be able to find a turbo for around that price or many be 10grand more.

Avoid this used Tata Sierra if you want piece of mind, unless you have your own garage for its maintenance.

BTW, I used to be a Service Engineer (Passenger Vehicles) with Tata Motors between 1994-1995 posted at Jaipur. At that point of time, Sierra's & Estates were the only passenger cars made by Telco (known then). The Sierras manufactured prior to 1994 were terrible. The later ones were better. But, too much of maintenance hassles and customer complaints.

What if someone rebuilts the whole vehicle. For eg. Redone engine and drive line, chasis stiffning, bodywork.. Will is still give problems? And what can be the approx. costs involved..

I am A Sierra Fan BTW
