I am inclined to get a diesel automatic, but I’m stuck on whether to go for a 5-seater or a 7-seater. And if I do go for a 5-seater, is it worth splurging on something like the Creta, or should I stick to a sub-4m option?
Pure 5 seat usage Sub 4m = 3XO, Brezza
Pure 5 seat usage 4.3m = Creta / Seltos / Hyryder or GV strong hybrid if sensitive to mileage / Roxx (?)
Occasional 7 seat focussing on luxury 4.5m = Alcazar, with some great discounts going on for pre-facelift clearance. Facelift should come with ADAS and new Creta like interiors
Regular 7 seat focusing on spaciousness 4.5m = Carens. Comfort in all 7 seats, very welcoming looks for a family, especially in top trims with beige interiors.
SUV with uncomfortable third row seats 4.7m+ = Scorpio N
SUV with partially comfortable third row seats 4.7m+ = XUV700
MUV x SUV with all comfortable 7 seats = Innova Hycross, hybrid if running is high.

In your case, I wlll recommend Alcazar or Carens if you need all 7 seats regularly. Alcazar facelift is due next month, and Carens is due next year.

Re: Need Help Deciding My Next Car: XUV700 or Something Else?

After recent price cuts, XUV 700 especially AX5 D AT (if you are not very keen about ADAS) has become value for money. (in relative terms, especially compared with Creta)

Would suggest to go for 7 seater as if not required, you can anyways fold 3rd row and increase luggage space.

About Mahindra ownership experience, would suggest to go through posts by owners in official review and also various ownership threads in Team-BHP itself.

Re: Need Help Deciding My Next Car: XUV700 or Something Else?

I would suggest to with xuv700 7 seater version for those occasions to travel together. Have been using AX7 AT diesel close to 1.5 yrs , based on my recommendation 4 of my friends took and they are happy even minor SW niggles. In my case I had to replace the OEM battery after 1.5 yrs only but that's ok it is just a matter of spending 5k. Rear seat leg room and under thigh support in XUV is far better than sub 4 meter cars as well as creta.

Re: Need Help Deciding My Next Car: XUV700 or Something Else?

XUV 700 is a good choice. However, as you have noted, the 3rd row is strictly for kids and adults can use them only for short distances. Also, you compromise on the bootspace with the 3rd row up.

A couple of alternatives I would suggest are:

1. If you are open to looking at the used car space, I would recommend you look at the Kia Carnival, the 3rd row is comfortable and you get decent boot space too

2. Kia Carens. Good reviews all around, you have the practicality of a 7 seater with a comfortable ride for 5

3. A pre owned Innova. Doesn't come with loaded tech, but will serve you very well if you are ok (Personally I don't prefer it becuase of the no. of T-Boards on the road)

In the 5 seater space

1. The new Creta is another option you can go.

2. Look for a XUV 500 2019 & above model. You get good deals and a low run vehicle will serve you well. You have the comfort of the 5 seater and 7 seater options are available for short drives

I really like the MG cars in terms of looks and features, however due to their limited number of SS it can cause an issue on trips. That’s why I thought to not keep them in consideration.

Wow - that's nice to hear and reassuring. Did your uncle face any issues with suspension noises, frequent breakpad changes or tech glitches? I am inclined to buy AX7 D AT (really like the L pack as well as AWD, but that's too expensive for me)

That's awesome! Apart from battery what were the other kind of issues you or your friends have faced? Brakepad changes, suspension noise, football in boot, tech glitches? And how is the ASS? I've heard people say a lot of times that their XUV is mostly in the SS that the road?

Some minor issues I faced with the XUV700 are:
1. Volume goes very high momentarily - observed this while using Google Maps navigation
2. eSIM signal goes off - have to disconnect battery ( faced twice in 1.5 yrs)
3. I don't rely on the Mapples app for unexplored routes due to lack of trust
4. Bluetooth connection issues with phone - rarely
5. Never observed suspension or football in boot issue till now

After Sales Service is fine by me. I have given the car only twice for service till now - 1K km and 10K km. I am OK with it, but it's not on par with my previous car - Ford.

Re: Choosing an SUV up to 22L | Seltos, Harrier / Safari, Hector Plus, Compass, XUV700, Kicks, Scorp

Hi,

If space and dependability is your primary requirement then do consider the Innova hycross base model, even that's automatic with enormous space and fantastic reliability. Only petrol and no diesel though. Resale should be amazing too

Secondly if 5 seater will do then wait for the windsor, cloud outside India, I have seen it personally abroad and it offers fantastic space which none of the cars in this range offers. Only electric.

Cheers

My two cents:
Get a XUV 700 & 7 seater. Period. At your price point, no vehicle is a true blue 7 seater, the 3rd row is a compromise, the question is, how much of a compromise are you ok with? The only options I can think of are the Innova Hycross and the XUV. The issue is, at your budget, you will get the entry Hycross whereas near top end XUV. And for a long run, getting the top end is anyday better.

As far as XUV niggles are concerned, most of them seem to be live-able and will not keep you stranded in the middle of the highway in most cases. Issues reported are mostly in Adrenox and Entertainment, for sure have a nuisance value, but better than getting stuck.

Since your 7 seat need is only sporadic, you can enjoy the fairly competent product in the XUV almost everyday. It is a big car, but smaller than Hycross, is very much suited for city and highways. Mahindra has come a long way in their product portfolio and XUV is no longer a new product in the stable.

Re: Choosing an SUV up to 22L | Seltos, Harrier / Safari, Hector Plus, Compass, XUV700, Kicks, Scorp

For Ecosport owners (and anyone who loves driving dynamics), Jeep Compass is a very good option.

I had the same problem of deciding in this segment but after driving the Jeep, just couldn’t buy the XUV700/Tata twins. Haven’t regretted my decision till date as it brings a smile whenever I drive.

Yes it is overpriced but it’s made for a specific kind of audience and there’s no other alternative in that. One more benefit with Jeep is the community that they have managed to create.

Just drive it once to see if you feel the same way.

Go for the XUV700 Diesel AT eyes closed. It's been available in the market for almost 3 years now, so Mahindra has ironed out most of the niggles probably. If you're concerned that a facelift is around the corner, then you can consider the Scorpio-N as well .

Hey there, I am an XUV700 AX7L Petrol Automatic owner, more specifically my dad. From the few times I’ve driven the car, I can say the high-speed stability and overall driving dynamics are fantastic. They truly thought about adding some level of driver engagement in a market of laid-back, do-nothing vehicles. It doesn’t compare to my 2006 V6 missile, which is truly driver-focused, but this is still a fantastic car. However, your concerns about the tech glitches are very valid. Even after multiple updates, the software and infotainment are incredibly buggy, requiring us to completely stop and start the car again to get basic features working again like CarPlay. Sometimes the screen is just completely black—both driver display and main infotainment. This is genuinely extremely annoying and ruins the experience. I’m more of an analog guy myself, and I prefer physical buttons over software any day. I suggest you give the car a thorough rundown and make sure to get a good feel of its driving dynamics. Software is something that can be fixed, even if it takes a while, but compared to other cars in the segment, if you care about how a car feels and the connection you have with it while driving, I’d say go for it.
Cheers!

Thanks so much for providing this info. When you say not on par with ford, what differences do you generally see?
