Magnite
Sonet
Between the Magnite Turbo XV CVT & Sonet Turbo HTX iMT I'd choose Magnite because it gets full marks on safety. It gets the below over Sonet HTX

1. ESP
2. Traction Control
3. Hill Start Assist
4. Brake Assist
5. Rear wiper/washer

Only tangible addition that Sonet offers is the Sunroof.

Magnite XV CVT - 8.58 Vs Sonet HTX iMT - 9.99 - This will transalte to ~1.7 lacs difference on OTR.

Both CUVS score on looks, Magnite is equally well equipped except for blingy features but the critical safety features mentioned above tilts the scale for Magnite. Savings on OTR is bonus.

Re: Nissan Magnite vs Kia Sonet

Car to car, the Sonet is vastly superior. Better quality, better refinement & better ride. The Magnite is too firmly tuned for Indian roads.

Main advantage of the Magnite is that beautiful CVT, while the main disadvantage of the Sonet is that its proper AT will be more expensive.

How does the CVT compare with the DCT? Should that not be the real comparison between two real time Automatics. Not between an automatic and a manual albeit without a clutch. I know the question is for an iMT but am keen to know the Magnite CVT vs Sonet DCT, coz I’m looking at the top trim petrol DCT. I’ve driven manuals for 32 years now

DCT is better and more so Sonet is a better car overall here than Magnite. Be it well appointed interiors, features set, after sales etc. So the comparison was done on Budget of 11 lacs on road price. In that price bracket Nissan XV premium CVT (Top variant) is a better proposition than Sonet in similar price bracket.

My suggestion for you would be to wait for Skoda Kushaq which will be coming in both Torque converter for lower 1.2 TSI and DCT with 1.5 TSI mill.

Moving to Automatics is must recommended. And i dont know your budget but recommendation for Kushaq if you choosing Sonet.

I have used Skoda Rapid for 1.2 lakh kms and its a gem of a car if you can keep apart the small niggles which comes with VAG cars. And person who bought it, is a happy customer and has driven it for 40k kms additonal without any issues

I too believe in waiting for the Germans/Czechs, the only problem is that there is no hint of a timeline on both those launches. More so nothing on the pricing too

I am budgeted for the Sonet GTX+ Petrol DCT and have been hearing that the Diesel AT is even better, so may just scrape through on that with a stretch. If the VW / Skoda offering match the Sonet pricing that’s where I’ll be headed, but I’m missing a Compact SUV. Sold my Ecosport Titanium (0) in February and driving my daughter’s i10 Sportz since. I hate being that low and need the high stance once again. I’m getting quite impatient now

The pandemic is coming in the way of test drives so that’s a sugar coated pill, no hurried rash decisions while VW/Skoda decide how to deal with us consumers

The price reveal & a ‘proper’ launch will be happening in Mid-June ‘21, with deliveries starting from July ‘21. This is the current plan as per Skoda India; however, with the COVID scene going from bad to worse, I am a bit skeptical about the timelines.

Having said that, if you have a budget for the Sonet GTX+, then you SHOULD definitely wait for the Kushaq. Pretty sure, the mid variant of 1.0 L AT will be under 15 L OTR.

P. S.: Taigun is a good 4 months away from the launch. Expected launch is ~ Aug - Sept ‘21.

Thank you, that’s great information. I guess the way things are, June will be upon us in a trice, but guess I’ll be losing out on the Taigun. Win some lose some. Watching this space for more developments

Re: Nissan Magnite vs Kia Sonet

Now, one can consider the Sonet HTX iMT as well as it got required safety features like ESP, TC, VSM, HSA, BA along with alloy wheels but it misses on rear wiper!

And, the Sonet HTX 7DCT and Diesel AT have paddle shifters along with drive modes as well, which is a boon, but expensive!
