Re: MG Gloster vs Toyota Fortuner vs Ford Endeavour vs others Reviving an old thread, drove Gloster as someone within family picked up the top spec Savvy 7 seater. With Ford gone and Mahindra pulling plug on Alturas, Gloster is the only Body on Frame alternative to Fortuner. My earlier drive was a short one from dealership and here is a comparison after extended drive against Fortuner and Endeavour which I had until last year. Positives
- Features, there are plenty of them. You name it car has it. Probably the most feature rich car under 1Cr.
- Car is wide and long which translates to good space inside. Lot of space in 3rd row and boot too with 3rd row up.
- Body panels have good heft, comparable to Fortuner but slightly lower than Endeavour.
-ADAS means car is future ready, won't get outdated soon interms of safety. Negatives
-Engine+ gearbox is badly tuned. Heard MG have made improvements recently but still needs lot more. There is lag and car refuses to pick up pace. This can be annoying in situation where you want to pull up after standstill or exiting road humps. Hard to believe car makes 218BHP and 480NM of torque.
- Suspension is super soft and has more side way movement. While this absorbs bad roads slightly better, induces more sideway movement. If good ride quality is the primary requirement, look elsewhere.
- Seats somehow don't offer enough support. Middle row under thigh support is poorer than Endeavour.
- Quality of interiors is mixed bag. There is soft touch plastic, some parts feel premium like gear lever, quilted leather. That said some parts feel are of low quality, like tweeter cover, some of the buttons, leather on side bolstering part of seat etc.
For a comparable price Gloster offers a tonne of features which is unheard of in the segment(or even above) but the engine+gearbox, drive dynamics, inconsistent interiors leave a lot be desired. |
