Hello all,

I’m a doctor 65 yrs living in Chennai and have been riding since 1976, my most recent is the Hayabusa gen 3. I rode a friend's Busa , Vinod who was kind enough to let me ride it . I fell in love instantly with the silky smooth engine and also the ease with which I could ride it also it’s my dream bike. The only minus I felt was the seating position was not upright as my Ninja 1000, though I’m very fit I noticed pressure around my neck after two hours on the Busa.

I joined a few forums and found the best comfort mod was ABM handlebar kit which pushes the bar 4 inches taller and 6 inches behind homologated for road use all over Europe and is fantastic to ride in twisties, 75% of my riding is in the city to my clinic and rest is highway so to avoid pressure on my neck went for this mod. There was a catch that they won’t ship Asian countries from Germany . Luckily my friend hand carried the kit and Dream Suzuki Pune sent their mechanic, my Friend Raja who was bike racing champion from late 80 s into 2000 said he could do the modifications which is a 6 hr process. It includes slight cutting of the windshield , bleeding the brake and clutch oil , removing the handle bar switches, etc. Also, German products are expensive and it cost 650 euros .


Riding comfort is dramatically improved and I can go into corners with super confidence ( even stock was very good but this is waay too good) the comfort is intoxicating . Hello Doc, I wish you had posted this 2 years ago I could have bought the Busa too

I love the Busa and took a ride of the Generation 3 from someone who was kind enough to give me his bike. Rode it for ~one hour and felt the neck pain you are talking about. Had heard about some sort of risers, didn’t know about it in detail and didn’t want to take the risk of buying it blind.

Besides that, just loved the bike in every way possible. The silky smooth way she delivers power, the suspension and the looks, oh boy the looks, just love the way she looks.

Please post some photographs of the front/handlebar/risers from all angles to get a proper look when you have some time.

Hello ,

I found in Hayabusa.org a person by name Chobers aged 74 riding the Busa happily inside the city. It was he who inspired me to go for this handle bar. I got the handle bar kit 5 months before the bike arrived and changed it during first service, bike came in January 2025. I’m posting a few pics for your viewing.

You are an Inspiration for all of us Doctor, 65 and riding a busa and that too as a daily driver, hats off to you Sir! A lesson for all our biker friends, who decided to buy bikes based on age and not based on what the heart truly desires.

Thanks for your kind words. I mostly ride to work from October to end of March. After that, I use my car, except for Saturdays. I have found that riding a heavier bike in the city at slow speeds keeps my hba1c (glucose) levels under good control and also it works on the optical flow. Hence, your brain coordination is worked and improved. Plus it works on your core muscles.

Very nice mod. In fact, one of the gripe from most Busa owners is the rider triangle, which is bothersome for city rides. Wishing you fun filled daily rides for years to come! Cheers!

After the mod trust me it reminds me of RD 350 in lightness ( but a beast instead when u twist the throttle, beast even compared to ninja , but buttery smooth response ) , incidentally I found my own RD 350 of 1984 had come for tuning ( now belongs to another passionate biker ) so I’m sharing the pic of my old previously owned bike with me atop . Also I know that you are a very senior member and I have a query ; I wish to remove the mid cat ( there are three cats in the Busa ) the center one comes right beneath the feet and though it’s not too much would like to reduce the heat by removing ; now this will cause a loss of back pressure and increase hp at the top of the rev which I won’t need. How not to lose initial power and just lower the heat other than re flashing ( no dynos in india for bikes )( mind you it’s tolerable but I want more comfort ). I don’t intend to remove the cats in exhaust tail pipe as it does not affect me nor am I interested in noisy full system as it does not help me in any way. Thanks

Thanks; the rider triangle is aggressive in gen 2 vs gen 3. Again, as I ride mostly in heavy traffic bent forward, looking over my shoulder becomes difficult. It was fine for highway use for upto one hour but after that, I would feel a pressure on my neck; youngsters should be able to ride 500 km easily.

Incredible, I also used to own a 1984 RD 350, sold it few years back, below is a pic. Was becoming difficult to tune and maintain.

Regarding the Busa's Cat, I will let the other experts comment on it, as I am not aware about the pros and cons of removing it.

There certainly are bike dynos, I've seen them in Bangalore. I would be surprised if Chennai, the home of Indian motorsport, didn't have one.

Oh really !I’m told even in the US except a few like Ivan and few others end up with unsatisfactory results like excessive popping . It’s news to me that there are dynos for superbikes here . Thanks for the info
