Re: Comfort mods for my Hayabusa

Hello Sir. Congratulations on getting a Busa and kudos on riding it to work in Chennai traffic and heat

On the heat there is nothing much you can do as the Busa is really engineered well on heat management and if it was any other bike ridden in these conditions you would just park the bike on the side. Further, removing the cats will make the fuel mixture leaner and ultimately generate more heat. So, if its unmanageable you may try applying some heat insulations if not applied already by the factory around the area. Also, since it’s a new bike maybe see if it reduces post the running in period and first oil change. All the best.

Since, the second favourite discussion on this thread is RD’s posting a few from my RD collection.

My latest addition the RZ 350 (aka RD 350 LC in Europe)

RD 250 Daytona Special

My Busa and my 848 EVO (it would be grinning on the heat discussion)

Wow! What a collection! I’ve been riding big bikes last 20 years so the Chennai heat doesn’t bother me as I don’t ride in summer. The bike does not heat beyond half, all the heat ( quite bearable ) comes from the CAT between the foot pegs. I’m sure you know there are 3 CATS in the Gen 3, I’m just thinking of removing the centre one but I do need a mechanical object to give just enough back pressure to enjoy the low-end torque yet take out the heat due to excess filtering. I’m sure someone who has done it in Europe or India will come up with a solution.

In the west, if they remove the cats (all three), re-mapping is always done but only results in higher bhp at the top of the power band that I will never use. I just finished my first service too.

Thank you. Two strokes and especially RD’s are bikes that have been around me from my early biking days. I never planned to have a RD collection but ended up owning a RD 125, RD 200, RD 250 , RD 350 (with me but belongs to a friend) and the RZ 350 (RD 350 LC). Not familiar with how the Gen 3 Cat design is so can’t comment much on it but don’t got for an option which is non reversible incase you’re not happy with it. On my Gen 2 i have just added two Brothers Titanium slip ons which are lighter than stock and also cool down much faster. But if I have to go back to stock I can just mount the OE cans back on.

The Busa has never crossed the halfway mark even in peak traffic and the 848 has never crossed 106 degrees on the temp gauge but the Ducati heats up and retains significant heat compared to the Busa and that is what you’re experiencing as well as there is not enough air flow while riding in slow moving traffic and the ambient temperature is not helping either.

Do, keep us posted incase you find a workable solution for this issue.

I’m attaching a pic where the cat is right near the foot peg; since I have access to an extraordinary workshop I can cut the portion without touching the cat ; re fix a chamber of same dimension without the cat, with some device to give back pressure , I may lose some power in lower revs , since there are two more cats in the tail pipe it should be ok .if I don’t like it I can go back or buy the headers with mid pipe from Thailand ( I can ask my friend to search ). Will post if any update . I’m told that Gen 2 bikes with ABM handle bars are a dream to ride bcos seating position is more aggressive than Gen 3.

Re: Comfort mods for my Hayabusa

Ok my old man style riding I’ve got an average of 13.5 kmpl only city riding for the first one thousand km on odo . There are occasional rides on outer ring road which maybe around 150 to 200 km in toto .

Re: Comfort mods for my Hayabusa

I went for a 200 km ride on ECR and back. The handlebar feels wonderful; the ergonomics are fantastic, it’s a German homologated product and you get what you pay. I would say it’s a masterpiece.

Re: Comfort mods for my Hayabusa

IMO the level of comfort and relaxed feeling one gets riding a big engine sport tourer is unmatched when roads are good.
I was always a fan of Hayabusa but when I looking to buy a pre worshipped one (In Dubai) could not find one, but I did find another one with very similar character and loving it.
Here is my BMW K1300S.

The K 1300 S is truly a masterpiece. I have ridden this bike a decade ago. The whole experience was surreal then.
