^guys we do not have anything against the owner but try to think in the terms of Aam aadmi.

For a simple commuter biker who's a bit aware of the biking scene thanks to our media. A super biker is a superman, they idolize, kids adore them and talk about the rumble and flypast for days. Now if they start idolizing the guy with floaters who just flew past him on the street, they too copy that and an instance of free will changes many a lives. With great power comes great responsibility

Also it so happened by chance that most picks of R1 bikers were caught in floaters and thus the light comments made by us all. It is agreed, if the bike was doing it's speed runs, the photo would have been impossible. So it is not against an individual or safety, it's just everyone seems to care. Cheers!

Re: Superbikes spotted in India

The reason why aam aadmi idolize a superbiker, in most of the cases are not the riding-gear, not the bike's capabilities or not even the bike itself, its either the attention or the snob-value. If you ask around every lad in the block, all of them either want a "Hayaboosa" or an "Aarr1" not cos they are well versed with its capabilities but because they've seen their superstars riding them or seen the attention another lad gets when he own one. I believe one should own/ride a superbike not entirely (after all, who wouldn't like some attention) for the above mentioned reasons but for the sheer love for bikes and biking

So, what happens when you don't have an idea about these bikes' capability to gulp down fuel?

Its his/her personal wish, mind-state, circumstances. Its not always possible to gear-up when you had to go for for some emergencies or an informal leisure ride.

For instance, how weird would it look if you're on a date and the girl sitting clueless behind a man in all stig-wear?

I insist wearing a helmet but the rest should be left to the bloke's choice. It'd suck to be uniform'ish. I am a person who love to take my ride out when I want to grab some junk in the evenings wearing some lousy tees, shorts and loafers (even when I rode litre class plus bikes) but that doesn't necessarily translate that I am any less conscious about the machine's capabilities or the potential danger.

I believe a conscious rider shall stay alive no matter what he wears but a 'nut' will be left cold even how well-geared!

My two cents.

Ride Safe!
Totally agree , I find ppl shooting when they see some one even just posing for a pic in floaters . Will you go and tell the person he should not be wearing floaters if they actually see some one in person ?. Just bcos internet is free and we are virtual ,we should not go on and on and on .
There are many times ,we need to just quickly go and get something near .Like going to haircut ! .
But I insist at least a helmet always .

Indeed, on deeper thinking the above points do make perfect sense. As a biker I think many times its an instant reaction from us when we see a beautiful superbike being ridden with floaters, flip-flops etc. Cos firstly we are all used to seeing normal 100cc type commuters being ridden without riding gear, slippers etc, whereas for us a superbike pic is incomplete without seeing the rider in full riding gear, boots etc. so its like seeing somebody pour saambaar curry into an authentic plate of chinese fried rice.....

Re: Superbikes spotted in India

I guess its just that when you get to ride superbikes for safety reasons a bare minimum of a helmet and shoes are required , doesn't matter it be the riding gear or just any shoes.

The first thing I learnt in a basic/advanced rider course in US is to wear basic rider gear (Helmet , Jacket & Shoes ) while riding superbikes or any bike as a matter of fact.

I personally witnessed an event where a friend of mine was air-lifted in California,US.it was a major crash in one of the canyon roads and he's really lucky to survive that and just get away with some fractures, only reason coz he's completely geared up.I have seen people riding at speeds above 180 in shorts and flip flops.I feel so silly coz they don't know how dangerous it can be on Indian roads.

did anyone notice the CB400 (600?) at the farmost right? This, fellas would be one heck of a practical bike to ride out in the city. Inline 4 engine, 170 kgs, 52 bhp (for the 400). tailor made for folks like me. price it within 4 lacs and you have a winner Honda. pay some heed to this.

I love the shot. always loved the rear of gixxers.

Re: Superbikes spotted in India

I clearly realize that is not possible to kit up every time you are going out for a ride. Which is why I specifically only mentioned this for 'superbikers'.
At least in India you don't take out your superbike to go to the shop. Every ride is an event and I can't imagine how someone can forget to wear shoes while going out?

Riding these machines carries a great responsibility. Taking small details like these for granted showcases carelessness to everyone around and is bound to generate negative comments.

If someone is ok in riding a 180hp superbike wearing floaters then we can very well imagine if there was no helmet law then that guy would have not mind riding without a helmet either.

I know we can not question someone's personal will or freedom. But superbikers are equivalent to filmstars for bike fans. You would never want your favorite film star showcasing anything that would give out a negative or questionable impression to your kids. Superbikes will continue to grow and it is important that we all start practicing wearing at least the basic gear before going out for a ride.

Even I was talking about "Superbikers" only, would you bother if a normal commuter-biker didn't gear up?

I used to, not just shopping, to grab a burger, to visit my peeps in the nights, It was my only motorcycle at that time and I used it as every other bloke who uses his bike, but when I go for "rides", I sure make it a point to gear-up

There is no one questioning that point, that is if you're riding the way it should be ridden but if you are aware what you're out doing, I don't think that'll be much of an issue. I am not with people wearing casuals and slippers and think they are on a track-day across the town. No.

Not that case, as far as I know, all superbikers in my town whom I've grown-up seeing them. have always worn helmets. I too used to wear a helmet when I rode the big bikes but now I am having some medical issues why I cannot wear one and that is one of the reasons stopping me from going for my next "Super".

That's our mistake seeing superbikers as icons. Its a bad tendency. Like film stars, even superbikers aren't always the one to look upto, they're normal human beings with every possible cons.

It all boils down to being a responsible rider no matter what you ride or if you're geared or not.

Ride Safe!

Re: Superbikes spotted in India

Ok I'm out of this one. Usually I aways try to avoid getting into debates on Tbhp

Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I tried to express what I feel and I have no problem in what others think. Don't want to drag this any further.

Regards

Re: Superbikes spotted in India

Since laws of physics and 200 + kg weight only applies when you are out on "rides", guess gear not required all the time.

Amazing concepts one reads on TBhp.

Remember, Ride Safe.

Ah, I liked that one!

Not kickin' off a debate here, then, I wish you all the luck convincing all the riders to gear-up every time they get out, but I'm afraid, I wont be joining your club any time soon, not among ones who wear a tuxedo at a beach party just for the sake it keeps you warm n dry

Love to quote a line by comedian Ross Noble, "The thing I like about bikes, you get it wrong, you die!"

Ride safe!
