Have to agree, your friends bike was loaded with trick bits worth a lot of cash. And I am sure the color scheme isnt to everyone's liking.

A little correction here sir. Yamaha had got in only 2008 model bikes, if you have doubts regarding the 2008 and 2007 there are certain differences.
In case its a black coloured bike the R1 logo on the fairing will be in plain silver colour in a 2007 R1 and the front suspension is in black colour, but in the case of 2008 R1 the logo is in golden colour and even the suspension is in golden colour (The bikes that are released officially are AUSTRALIAN models, whereas the grey market bikes are UK models) and in case of a blue bike the whole graphics are changed, and my bike is also a 2008 model.Check the yamaha website for further clarifications, Thank you

Why don't you post a picture of the plate on the chassis on the right side below the handle bar? It has the date of manufacture. Then I'll believe its an '08.
Grey market bikes can be from any market, not just the UK. I have a friend who has an '07 from the US market.
And for the colour difference in the '07 and '08 that you have mentioned above, that's
wrong. Here's a picture of my friends '07 (December '07) that he picked up in March from the showroom here. Its the last black R1 that Yamaha had left for Bombay and at the time they had one other black one in Delhi as well. Akhil's (rossiter) bike is also a September '07. My friends bike that just got sold and was in the classifieds is also a September '07. So, if the last R1's they sold were '07's, do you think they would sell '08's before that?
I have to agree with straight6 here, people who own official R1's themselves have stated many a times that the bikes are 2007 models.
There is more to that bike then the fat tyre.
This model is so fuglyly beautiful :D
OT: Do you have more pics of the Ford Model A in Pic No 5.
the bike is just mind blowing and the color is amazing too.
Where did you see this bike? Its like the one that was sold by one tbhp member to another. Is it for sale?
Looks like someone has gone for the black paint, as I don't remember this color being a stock one, I may be wrong though. But this looks the best in orange and ninja green. It is a bloody neat bike well maintained by owner. A possibly pre-2000 model and completely stock, no custom parts at all. But a new import and not registered in India. What is the deal?
PS: That fat tire is a 190 section. That is the default size on sevens.
this is one Fugly bike!!!!
That's definitely the original colour.

You are indeed wrong :D
Black was very much an option on the ZX-7 , 98-99 if I remember correctly.
manson.
In one picture there's a number plate; in another it isn't? strange!
