Re: Issues faced by Triumph Motorcycle owners | An open letter to Triumph India & Triumph UK

Just too many of these horror stories of big global brands being let down by terrible business practices in India.

I just don't understand how they don't care about brand image or word of mouth.

Why is it so impossible for good service? The lack of training and empathy is appalling.

These are big purchases and in our country, people do due diligence and research before purchasing a bicycle. How are these guys totalling unconcerned?

Re: Issues faced by Triumph Motorcycle owners | An open letter to Triumph India & Triumph UK

Here's the final update on the "Tiger that Stood Still" for three months.
The Guys at Khivraj got in touch, and went out of their way to sort things out. Did it take longer than expected? Yes. Did it take more efforts than initially required? Also yes. But Am I happy in the end? YES! The Service Management team and their head ( true gentleman) got in touch, gave an ear to everything I had to say and and remedied it.
My faith in Triumph is restored.
I hope it only gets better from here, for both Happy or Uncertain Triumph owners here on out!

I am curious to know what changed because this is a drastic departure from their usual customer apathy. Is it the Bajaj partnership finally influencing the folks at Triumph?

This is genuinely a sad thing to know. BUB was one of the better dealerships as per my experience. In fact, back in 2015, the way they treated me and made me feel special was also one reason to buy the Street Triple 675 apart from the fact that it's an extremely good motorcycle. Kawasaki and Honda back then were not so friendly while Benelli was friendly but their bike didn't have ABS back then.

A simple pick and drop for service costs 2,000 INR + 18% GST for service center within a radius of 12 km.

I am sure B U Bhandari is bent on tarnishing Triumph Motocycle's image.

I would say that while my experience with BUB Goa was pretty mixed, their Pune branch (especially Sachin) has been genuinely good to interact with. While we couldn't conclude the deal despite trying everything due to unrelated issues, he was always looking to actively help me make a purchase. I only wish all the other branches had the same level of hunger and zeal.

Well, yet another update from me.

I gave my bike for regular servicing to BUB Triumph (Pashan, Pune) last Saturday (31-Aug-2024).
Later in the afternoon, I got a call back from my service advisor and he said that one small rubber or plastic elbow shaped component that allows coolant overflow pipe to connect with the underbelly coolant reservoir has gone kaput.
It's not a large sized part and the value of this part is hardly ₹ 200-400 something like that.

Guess what? The part is not in inventory (as usual).

I was obviously pained to know this and asked whether there has been an improvement in the spares situation compared to the past.

The answer is still a firm NO.

Dealership will place the order with Bajaj Auto.
Bajaj Auto will place it with Triumph UK or whatever..

Then the part will arrive - God only knows after how many days! I don't think it is anything below 4-6 weeks though it could be worse than that also.

I am seriously getting sick and tired of all this.

Once again, my otherwise wonderful bike can't be used just because of a very small component needing replacement.

This is definitely a 20% Triumph but 80% Bajaj problem.

I have already decided what is next for me.

It feels very sorry to say this, but I am likely to downgrade to KTM Duke 390 in all probability.

I was eyeing the ADV 390 but even that still has an issue in terms of tyre varieties available after the stock tyres wear out.

IRONICALLY, while my expensive bike is lying at the service centre, there is one old faithful bike still giving me the service in an unassuming no fuss manner.

Can you guess which one?

2004 Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi. Version-1 with spoke wheels and tubed tyres!

It has become rickety now, but it works and spares are easily available and a roadside mechanic can repair it. It has no electronics like ABS or anything. The only electronic part is the ignition system.

The same Bajaj which brought joy of performance to the ordinary people long ago through its Pulsar line-up is currently spoiling the experience of their customers who are shelling out huge amounts for their superbikes and then also wasting time for almost any and every component replacement.

I sincerely wish Bajaj Auto changes this situation but currently there is no respite (in yet another irony, KTM is also indirectly Bajaj! GOD HELP ME!!)

Latest update is that the service advisor managed to do a jugaad-fix and he is confident that normal day to day usage is ok with this fix. The part has been ordered and may take 20-25 days more to arrive. Till then I should be able to ride the bike.

I am expecting to collect my bike today (14-Sep-2024)

As a precaution, I also asked him to check all rubber parts (obviously I do not want a situation where another rubber part fails after 2 months and then again my bike sits in garage for a month or so). He has checked and confirmed that there is no damage or hardening or cracks visible on any rubber hoses or other important rubber parts - so I should be good for several months if not a year or more.

I am having trouble finding good tyres for my 2018 Bonneville. Looking for a high quality tyre. Any ideas and what are you guys riding on? Thanks

FINAL UPDATE :

Dear All,

I wish to let everyone know that finally I have parted ways with my beloved RED ROSE (Street Triple 675 ABS - Diablo Red - 2015 model).

It was a sad day for me but one young starry eyed kid (just 19 years of age!) bought it from me and now the joy will be his - and any hassles coming with that also will be his.

The rubber part in question did arrive and the kid got that fixed also. Other rubber parts were indeed checked by BUB Triumph SVC and they are in a good condition so far not requiring any replacement in the near future.

Also, I am proud to say that, after clocking 57000 km, after riding my bike pretty fast many times, the clutch plates are in excellent condition when I handed the bike to the new owner. The bike still races to 200 kmph in a violent manner almost like a new bike.
===============================

Meanwhile, despite originally not favouring the KTM 390 Adventure compared to the Duke 390, I still ended up purchasing a used 390 ADV-X variant (the cheapest one which has no electronic rider aids except the basic dual channel ABS.)

One of my friends ended up selling his Aug-2023 bike to me and he had barely used it for one year (just 2150 km on the ODO!). He ended up buying Suzuki V-Strom 800 recently and after that there was no chance he would regularly ride 390 ADV - so I immediately pounced upon such opportunity and ended up buying from him..

Already, I am reaping some benefits of this decision - my spine is thanking me while going over various ruts / potholes / speed breakers and it's very easy to go into the broken parts on the side of road to overtake excruciatingly slow traffic without fearing about damage to the tyres and the overall bike parts - A390 just glides over these bad surfaces easily.

Obviously, A390 is not invoking any emotions in me the way Street Triple did every time I fired it up - it is more of a point A to point B practical bike which can go decently fast as and when I want - without much fuss.

It will take me a while to sink in the reality that my Street Triple is GONE!!!
My kids literally grew up with this bike becoming almost a part of our family....a part of my personality!!

Had it not been all these spare parts and maintenance issues (please note that the part prices and labour charges have also gone very high now for Triumph's premium bikes.)

NOTE: When deciding to sell my RED ROSE, I did inquire with many people about the status of other brand spares and service.
Unfortunately, there is no improvement in nearly any of them.
Despite all the issues, Triumph may even be the best of them and buying a Ducati or BMW or even a Kawasaki or Suzuki could still be as much or more hassles than owning a Triumph. Honda I am not even going to talk because of their attitude despite some good products.

I believe almost every other brand (Suzuki I have no idea) you have mentioned doesn’t have issues even close to what you and many others have faced with Triumph especially in Bangalore.

I own a Ducati Multistrada V4s (Mumbai) and have no issues with the service centre. They have always been receptive, helpful and adept with servicing my bike.

Have also heard from fellow riders here about BMW and Kawasaki being good and decent in their dealings.

It’s sad you have had to let go of your Red Rose due to issues with the brand. All the best with your KTM 390 Adventure. It’s a lot of bike with honest money.

Cheers

I cannot comment on dealerships outside Bangalore - but I have not faced any issues with spares or service at BMW or Kawasaki in Bangalore. I have also had some odd-parts get damaged or fail and had no issues with either brand getting spares and repair work done.

Thanks for sharing this! I am referring to Pune where I have not heard too many positives about ANY premium brands as such. Others are in the same ballpark in terms of spares and service.

Is it really? What is standard part here? Do they toe the motorcycle on a flatbed? They don't! They send someone to ride it to their workshop. What is even a standard rate man. It's outrageous.
