So priced the same as the "leak" in November when Triumph published it on their website before taking it down. A 15-20k increase in price seems reasonable although the Bangalore on-road price will be closer to 18 lakhs

There is one thing I have been curious about regarding all big bike purchases and that is the e20 fuel compatibility. I see a lot of car owners fret about it; even the middleweight motorcycle threads on here seem to have some discussion around it (Transalp, Vstrom etc.) but I don't see potential big bike owners worry about it all.

I am talking from a buying decision perspective. Is this not a consideration at all? Will the e20 fuel have no impact on these bikes? I personally would think a 100 times before putting down that sort of money with all the uncertainty.

To my mind, the Tiger 900 Rally Pro remains one of the best and most complete big CC ADV to buy today. It’s got the perfect weight, power, handling dynamics - perfect for touring on tarmac and taking it out in rougher terrain. It’ll never feel wanting for power nor will it ever feel unduly unwieldy.

Properly comprehensive and well spread out service and sales footprint - a somewhat reassuring factor if you want to go on a long tour in any direction in India that there is a decent footprint of service network along the way - the only other brand that would be closest on this aspect is BMW (perhaps Kawasaki too, but the Versys is a lot more tarmac tool biased IMO).

I’m really happy to see the pricing remaining competitive for its segment. I’m sure this will continue to rule roost over the 800 / 900 cc segment. I’ve seen some really positive reviews on this from Bret Tkacs and some others and can’t wait to take a proper, decently long test ride on it.

Should we congratulate you now or wait for your new bike post?

I think Triumph is holding this segment strong!

Haha. Miles to go before I leap!

But yes, whenever I am in the market for an updated ADV, which should be sometime this year, the Tiger 900 RP will be part of a very short shortlist - not at the top of the list I suspect though.

Curious to know about your shortlist as I am also in the market for a big ADV. Cheers.

Top of list is the GS really. The shortlist is really the bottom three from the list - in the sense that I’ll likely consider one of the bottom three if for any reason I don’t feel inclined to go the GS way.

- GS 1250 / 1300;
- Tiger 900 Rally Pro;
- Multistrada V4S / V4S Rally;
- Africa Twin DCT.

Still some time though. What are you looking for, for your ADV purchase.

MS V4S will be Mad, like the GS1300 with a lot more hotness!

I think you'll have more fun with a smaller bike (<1000cc). What made you drop the Desert X? In addition, did you check out the new BMW F 900 GS? This would be a direct competitor to the Tiger 900.

AfricaTwin is a default choice but an automatic motorcycle is still a forbidden territory in my thoughts. There are AT DCT owners with more than 5 years of usage with no major issues reported.

Happy riding,

That's an interesting list, I see you have middle weight as well as super advs on them. That makes it bit difficult to assume the use case!
I've got AT DCT ES and Desert x on that list, adding Tiger 900 rally pro would make it more interesting and confusing at the same time. All the luck!

Re: 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 range showcased at India Bike Week. Edit: Now launched at 13.95L

I have a 2022 900 Rally Pro and rode it more than 20k KM in the last two years. Fantastic machine, been on all sorts of roads and it has never let me down.

The downside is the handle bar, its built for taller riders and risers (on rally variants) is a super tight fit with not enough slack in the cables. While many have fixed risers by re-routing the cables its something I am not comfortable with.

The second issue is with handle bar vibrations, its present and will be felt for the first thousand km atleast. Post that you barely notice it or are bothered by it.

Third was heat from the fan design, if you are in riding pants it wont be felt but with jeans its like a hot air blast.

Reading the specs I understand that all these issues are sorted and with more power on the tap its indeed a very sweet package.

Did I mention weight ? it feels the lightest when I have test ridden other bikes in my small group that has a 1250GS, Africa Twin, V Storm.

For someone in the market for middle weight adventure motorcycle this is a very good package, just add a scorpion exhaust and the bike sounds super sweet.

cheers !

PS: have booked GS1300 in feb and now in split minds to wait further or pick 1250 GS now. International reviews are not very promising with the issues reported and plus the wait is killing me every day!

For me, this will be the first big bike. I am looking for a bike which I can keep for the next 10 -15 years, and which can be taken everywhere (not interested in a garage queen).

My shortlist is pretty similar, and will decide after riding all of them for a bit. The only thing worrying me is how practical it will be to take these bikes everywhere, especially on really slushy and non existent roads in remote places.

Long ownership (8 - 10 year types) assuming you’re referring to the list I had put out, I’d definitely keep it to either the Tiger or Honda. The Honda is cheaper to service but I perceive Triumph as a more predictable brand in its commitment to its big bikes. It’s been now close to 18 months that Honda hasn’t even sold an AT.

All these places are designed for roads like this but again, I would say the 900 RP for the win on this count too. It’s significantly lighter than every other option that at least I have listed. I’d actually put the Honda Transalp on the list as well and given how long you plan to own it, you could actually consider the additional cost of switching to the tubeless spoke wheels from the AT.

I know a friend who actually switched from an AT to a Tiger 900 RP because he loved the lower weight and handling characteristics etc.

Between the 1250 and 1300 I’d actually say just go for the 1300. It’s the future. Having said that, since you have a mere 2 year old bike which is imminently usable for quite some time, why don’t you defer the upgrade to 2025. You still have time to enjoy the 900 RP and by then you’ll bypass the whole 1.0 factor to the 1300. I don’t have the option to wait since I’m without a big ADV at the moment but you should use your Tiger 900 for another year and make this a 2025 upgrade.
