The Monster SP comes in a special dual-tone colour scheme, an LED headlamp with a small flyscreen up front and a passenger seat cowl. The bike is equipped with a 4.3-inch colour TFT display that has a built-in lap timer.

The Monster SP is powered by a 973cc, V-twin engine that produces 110 BHP @ 9,250 rpm and 93 Nm @ 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quick-shifter.

The Monster SP comes equipped with 43 mm Ohlins upside-down fork suspension at the front and an Ohlins monoshock at the rear. It gets twin 320 mm discs up front with Brembo Stylema brake calipers and a 245 mm disc at the rear. It also gets a Termignoni twin-can exhaust.

The Monster SP is offered with several electronic aids, including cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and three riding modes.

Saw the Monster on the road a couple of times. Doesn't look like a Monster at all. Can't imagine too many reasons to choose this over a more powerful Street Triple RS unless you want something different. The old Monster at the very least had a very striking road presence even though it lacks the sharp handling of the new Monster 937

Am with you there - the new one is an all different motorcycle under the skin and all for good. But the road presence is just not there. My 2017 is still a looker though I wish it was lighter by atleast 20kgs.

In fact I recently saw the Desert-X up close and while it is striking from the front and 3 quarters, the rear is just weird. Like a flying squirrel with its open wing span. But it's an all new design at least. The multi to me is their nicest looking motorcycle inspite of it's quirks (flared nostrils..) on the newest, more powerful ones. Imagine saying their best looker is an ADV.

Re: Ducati Monster SP India launch on May 2, 2023

Its a wonderful bike but at this price point, its just so hard to justify buying it over the refreshed Street Triple RS. Other than the very hard core V Twin enthusiast (a justifiable tribe in its own right), I'm not sure if this would sell in very many numbers. Even for the V Twin enthusiasts, I reckon they would actively consider saving some cash and plonk on the regular Monster or loosen the purse strings a bit more and stretch for the delicious Street Fighter V2.

For everyone else, there's the RS in its own delightful red livery!

On the looks - completely agree. The presence of the previous trellis frame Monster is just not there anymore and it has much less street presence than the Striple RS and definitely nowhere in the same zip code as the Street Fighter.

Agreed but if you live in Bangalore, buying triumph is as foolhardy as buying a 15 year old 7 owner range rover with insurance lapse (aka the lovely folks at Keerthi triumph)

Fair point. Indeed for folks in Bangalore where Triumph is a no - go, this may make more sense. Even more so given I’ve heard excellent things about Ducati Bangalore historically. Hopefully that still holds good.

Although at this price if I had to avoid Triumph and if I could make the stretch, I’d probably reach out for the Streetfighter (SF) V2 instead. This is just uncomfortably close to the much more desirable SF.

Re: Ducati Monster SP India launch on May 2, 2023

Ducati almost always charges a premium for its models, be it Multistrada or Supersport or some other model. The SP variant price is on expected lines. And as per Ducati’s India head, people are willing to pay premium(as I remember the excerpts from an interview, I watched a while ago) for Ducati products and their order books are quite full.

Let’s just hope that Triumph India doesn’t gets any wrong idea after this launch for its RS variant.
