re: Suzuki Katana launched at Rs 13.61 lakh

Hope Suzuki hasn't hired any folks from HMSI in the past few years. Is it too much to hope for a <15L OTR Bangalore price?

I love the all black Katana - Looks very stealthy. Hoping the India Specific color scheme is the All black version. I believe that Suzuki isn't offering the All black in the 2022 model year in other markets. The other color will be the Matte Blue which looks good as well.

The only thing which I'm slightly concerned about is the 12L Fuel Capacity :( Wish the Katana also had a 19L Fuel Capacity like the current GSX-S1000 on which it is based on. Will the Naked S1000 be offered here?

Don't know about recent past. But 3-4 years back, Kawasaki service in Bangalore sucked big time. Had to wait 3-4 weeks for most spare parts and pricing was a rip off.

No.

They should offer the GSX S1000 and GSX S1000 GT/GT+ as well here, in addition to the Katana.

The Katana ($13,894) is more expensive than the GSX S1000 ($11, 889) & the GSX S1000 GT (in the US). If they can achieve a sub-15L OTR price point for Katana, the GSX S1000/GT could be offered at an even lower price point.

There are many who would like to have an option to consider the V-Strom 1050, but that's a separate topic of discussion.

As a community of motorcyclists, it's great that they are offering such a competent motorcycle at a more-than-fair price point.

re: Suzuki Katana launched at Rs 13.61 lakh

Kudos to Suzuki for bringing this bike here, this bike has cult following elsewhere. For some reason, this bike reminds me of the Piranha fish. Everything about this bike has a charm to it, being a sucker for squarish heads, the minimalistic suave design language, this would command presence on street like no other.

I have no hopes of seeing it priced sensibly/aggressively, as Suzuki has always priced its offerings a notch above. Rest said and done, chuffed to see it finally heading to our shores.

Cheers!

Disclaimer: Not a biker here.

Is anyone else feeling weird? Retro styled bikes used to be 60/70s styling inspired.

Now 80s/90s bikes with fairing are inspiration for todays retro?

Feeling old already.

Actually I wouldn't mind that, there was a 250cc Katana previously, Suzuki GSX 250S Katana however with a in-line 4 cylinder engine. If they launch an affordable Katana I would happily buy it while singing this song. Although please dont screw up the styling.

P.S. The Katana shown here is Suzuki GSX 400S Katana

I sure hope they bring both the naked S1000 and the GT. soon.

Sir, can you please check with your reliable source, if the naked S1000 is also on the cards ? I sold off my CBR650F (lovely bike) 3 years ago and the urge to get back to riding a big bike is getting slightly stronger. I know that I'm older and things are gonna be different now. Need to get a bike which i can keep for a long time. Which means these huge ADVs are out of the question. I'm squarely looking at a inline-4 naked. No news about the CB1000R, but if Suzuki get the new GSX-S1000 naked here, i'll probably be the first to put a booking in Bangalore. Especially in Black with those Gold front forks.

The Katana is appealing too (again, in Black) but I'm not sure if the 2022 Model year is being offered in Black. Also, the 12 Litre fuel capacity is a Big fly in the ointment. I know that a 200 km range is pretty realistic for my use-case. But the naked S1000 has a 19 Litre fuel tank. God Knows why Suzuki chose a 12 litre tank for the Katana. So what if the looks were ruined a little...

Other than the small fuel tank, I'd very easily choose the Katana - especially that now it comes with a bi-directional quick Shifter and the engine has been updated.

Suzuki has stopped selling the Suzuki Intruder 150 right, what next? The marketing boys at Suzuki will want a new 150cc bike - quick patch job and Im sure they will use the same old 150cc engine on Katana -

Now that the pricing is out, I believe that the vehicle will also go on display in the dealerships. Over the weekend when I visited a dealership for another vehicle, I found the Katana still in the shipping crate and wrapped. So could not get better look/details. Looking forward to the reviews and feedback on the Katana here.

At 13.61L ex-showroom, this would be around 15.56L OTR in MH.

Looks like its going to be the Silver (in addition to the Matte Blue).

A bit disappointed with the pricing to be honest. The Ninja 1000 retails for around 15.15L on road Blore. The Katana will come in at approximately 16.8L :O

As per present info the GSX S1000 shall not be offered in India.

Suzuki would be launching more big bikes next year.

Concern regarding the fuel tank capacity is justified, however real world range between fuel stops is decent. The Katana can easily give a mileage of 20 kmpl (with a mix of flogging at higher RPMs + cruising at highway speeds), which equates to a 240 km real world range. A stop to take a breather and refill every 200 km doesn't seem that much of a limitation, although agreed that this may be subjective.

Even though my Africa Twin has a 24.8L fuel tank that has an effective range of 550+ km, I find myself stopping for a break around the 150 km mark.

At this price point there's pretty much no direct competition in the market, and you could seriously consider acquiring one. Do note that due to ever increasing inflation it is rare to see this kind of pricing. This may not happen again.
