2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 revealed globally

Yamaha has revealed the 2022 model of the Tenere 700. The latest iteration of the off-road focussed motorcycle is available in two new colour options.

The 2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 has been given the new Team Yamaha Blue colour option with bold new graphics and blue rims. Apart from that, the bike is also available in the new all-black Raven colour option.

Yamaha has also updated the Tenere 700 Rally Edition for 2022. The blue and black livery of the previous model has been replaced by the new white and red livery.

Except for the visual tweaks, no other changes have been made to the Tenere 700. It continues to draw power from the 689cc, parallel-twin engine that makes 71 BHP and 68 Nm. For the transmission, there is a 6-speed gearbox.

Some of the other features of the Yamaha Tenere 700 include a long-travel suspension setup, 21-inch front wheel, 18-inch rear wheel, Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres, knuckle guards, windshield, and bash plate.

The Rally Edition of the motorcycle comes with an Akrapovic exhaust, chain guard, radiator protectors, knee grip pads, and a heavy-duty skid plate. It is also fitted with a dedicated rally seat.

To me personally Yamaha's design language is going downhill with newer designs. They were at their design peak up to a couple years back. None of their new product designs be it Indian models or international, excite me anymore. If I'd buy a Yamaha for now, it'd be only for their engines!

Highly doubtful given Yamaha India MD clearly said he doesn't see big bikes doing well here so they are concentrating on mass market bikes.

Saw one Tenere 700 at IBW so it's amazing that some one paid more than what a Tiger costs to import a Tenere for double of what it costs abroad.

At first glance importing a Tenere 700 for twice the international price tag doesn't look like it makes sense. But there's more to the Tenere 700.

The engine is the 689cc CP2 crossplane Parallel Twin with a 270° Firing order, aka the same engine as the MT07/XSR700 that the international community loves and that 270° firing order means it sounds kinda like a V-Twin and although peak torque (about 60NM at the wheel) comes in at 6500rpm about 55 of those 60nm are available as low as 2100rpm.

But the Tenere is a jack of all trades with an ace up it's sleeve.

It solves a problem that big adv bikes face offroad called "Squat".

ADV's bikes need long suspension for offroad use but they're heavy compared to dirt bikes, so you're riding a 200kg+ ADV bike offroad and you get on the throttle, the weight shifts onto the rear wheel which causes the front of the bike to lift up so you don't really have a good sense of steering on the front wheel compared to a dirtbike.

The Tenere 700 has very high countershaft (essentially your front sprocket), the high countershaft makes the swing arm angle sharper, which in turn means that under acceleration the rear tyre physically pushes the front tyre into the ground which means you can turn it like a 140kg dirtbike on offroad trails even though the Tenere is barely 5kg lighter than the Tiger 900 and makes 72hp.

It is slower on the pavement compared to other bikes in it's category like the Tiger 900, F850GS let alone the bigger ADV bikes. But on offroad trails? The only way you're catching a Tenere on a trail is if you swap that ADV for a proper 450-650cc dirt bike.

It is not targeted for general public. It is more of functionality over form. Also internationally Tenere is one of the most successful models in their arsenal.

This particular Tenere 700 is parked in my society, it's a beauty.

Although very unlikely, the bike seems to be so practical, it doesn't hurt to save up and be ready. You know, in case they launch it

Similar weight, extreme Offroad capabilities while decent for touring, almost zero electronic aids, 3 times the power and twice the torque - it sounds like a dream upgrade for my Himalayan couple of years down the lane. Only two issues - Yamaha needs to decide to sell it here and secondly, need to do something about that crazy seat height

A usually reliable little birdie tells me that Yamaha is looking at launching one of their 700cc motorcycles in India. Has anyone heard more on this?

Re: 2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 revealed globally

I have been looking for a non-single cylinder adventure bike. I have been driving Himalayan a lot and didn't like its power and smoothness. I am 5'11' and I feel cramped sitting on Himalayan with my knees bent and bad heating from engine.

I finally narrowed down on Yamaha T7 after looking around. I am waiting for Yamaha Tenere 700 launch to try it out. I hear that it will be available around July.

What concerns me is that Yamaha has pulled out of Dakkar rally going forward.
