Re: My 1st big bike | Triumph Trident 660

Triumph has done a really great job with the trident. I wish you many many happy kilometres for the years to come.

Lately, Triumph has been doing fairly good in India, Service and spare costs can be trouble, but overall the company is heading in a right direction.
Yes, Hoping service and spares are fairly reasonable, as triumph have entered beginner big bike territory.

Re: My 1st big bike | Triumph Trident 660

Jhinchak, congratulations on your new Trident 660! I think this is the first Trident 660 ownership review on an Indian forum, so please do keep this thread updated with your experiences and list of modifications etc. A small flyscreen will help you a lot on your weekend rides.

The first service costed me around 7.5 - 8k.
When the Trident was launched, Triumph claimed that it was easier to work on and didnt need as many labour hours, as compared to their other bikes. I had posted about this on the main Trident thread earlier and at that time, I had wondered if there would be any reduction in the service costs in India. It looks like the benefits are not being passed on to Indian customers by Triumph India. The service cost is the same as a regular Street Triple.

Anyways, Keerthi is known to take 2 days for basic services, unless you insist that they return it to you on the same day. If you push for it, they will do the same work and give it back to you on the same day.

Yes, as of now there is not much reduction in service costs. But i heard that service costs were cheaper by Rs 1k by other dealers. Hoping service cost difference are reduced.

For the same work, the service costs should be exactly the same across all Triumph service centers in India (barring any local state cess / tax etc). Can you please share the bill details so that we can understand where there is a difference? If there is some overbilling in Keerthi, you should reach out to Triumph India and seek their support in getting this refunded.

Im just saying this as a fellow Triumph owner. I faced some problems with the Kerala dealer and Triumph India intervened when I reached out to them. The Bangalore dealership doesnt have the best reputation for honesty, so Triumph owners need to be extra careful when dealing with them.

Will try and see if I can get anyone to share their bill to see the difference.
You mentioned local state cess/tax, But are there any such taxes right now in service after GST being implemented?

Yes, we had Kerala Flood Cess of 1% until recently. Similarly, other states might also have some additional local fees.

Re: My 1st big bike | Triumph Trident 660

Superbike dealers in India are mediocre in general. They're good only for washing, oil changes, and MAYBE setting chain tension but that's it. The only long term solution is to buy a Hayne's manual for one's bike and follow it when the bike goes out of warranty. If you don't have major planned service items (headaches like the famed Ducati Desmodici service) you can easily do it yourself. Not to mention it's fun and satisfying as well. Spares can be an issue but those can be imported.
A Hayne's manual is so detailed, you can do advanced stuff such as throttle body balancing if you know the basics.
That said, I doubt they'd have released one for the Trident as on date (but then you'll be on warranty too.)

Re: My 1st big bike | Triumph Trident 660

Congratulations Jhinchak on your first superbike. Indeed it's a very special feeling altogether and enjoy every moment of it. I did want to checkout the Trident when it was launched (basically my brother wanted to). But after seeing various reviews, it felt like a small motorcycle and not exactly comfortable for 2.

I wish they had given it a more classic rear design. Anyways the best part about such classic street motorcycles is that there is always scope for modifications. I am guessing future Trident variants could include a Bobber. Cafe Racer and a Scrambler.

All the best and ride safe. And do keep us updated on the service costs here →

Congratulations @Jhinchak on your new bike.
I absolutely love the the work you'd done on the TNT300. Tastefully done wrap.
Planning anything similar on the trident?

Re: My 1st big bike | Triumph Trident 660

Congratulations Jhinchak for a very practical superbike. A very precise and to the point review of a wonderful bike.
The ergonomics of bike is quite nice to accommodate long rides easily. A beautiful colour you have got there which looks like a million bucks after the PPF.

Regarding key-ring, I suppose that’s provided by Triumph India along with a backpack for keeping documents, manuals, etc. It all comes with the bike. Didn’t you got those?

Wishing you safe and fun kms on the Trident.

Re: My 1st big bike | Triumph Trident 660

Hi.
Have you run across any mysterious 'check engine' lights? And no visible/perceptible change in the bike's responsiveness? or have come across such a case?
So, I have owned a 660 for all of 4 weeks and out of that close to 3 weeks, It's been at the
Service Center. A frustrating experience all things considered. And they're not able to get to the source of the problem.. not till today at least.
I got the Engine light after riding it for exactly 5 days. and got it back with a sensor changed after 8 days. And 3 days later.. Voila. Again. Been with them for close to 10 days now. Been told I can get it by this coming Tuesday.
Bike's been run for 265kms till I last saw her.
A spot of bad electronics luck or should I be diving deeper? (Error code 101 is the dash screen prompt)

Shanmd, have you tried reaching out to Triumph India? Maybe they can get a head technician from another SVC to fly in and help diagnose the issue.
