America's 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 Brochure

From the electronics front, it is very modestly kitted. Exception of TC could be a point of concern. Apart from that, looks and reads like a good beginner sportbike as per American standards.

2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 globally unveiled

Yamaha has globally unveiled its all-new YZF-R7 sportbike. The new R7 is the latest model in Yamaha's R-Series. It replaces the brand's R6 model and bridges the gap between the R3 and the R1 superbike.

The all-new Yamaha YZF-R7 features a fully-faired design, with rear-set footpegs, clip-on handlebars, a skinny seat and a sculpted fuel tank. The motorcycle also features a single-pod projector headlamp, with LED DRLs on either side. It gets a fully digital LCD instrument cluster as well. The 2022 Yamaha R7 will be offered in two colour choices: Team Yamaha Blue & Raven Black.

The new middleweight fully-faired sportbike is based on the brand's MT-07 streetfighter. The new Yamaha R7 carries forward the same 689cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin CP2 engine. It produces 72 BHP @ 8,750 rpm and 67 Nm @ 6,500 rpm; paired with a 6-speed gearbox with assist and slipper-clutch offered as standard.

The new YZF-R7 gets 41 mm KYB upside-down front forks and a mono-shock setup at the rear, both with preload and rebound adjustability. Braking is handled by dual 298mm discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle rides on Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport tyres with 120/70 and 180/55 profiles at the front and rear, respectively.

Yamaha has priced the new YZF-R7 at US$ 8,999 (approximately Rs 6.57 lakh). The company is unlikely to bring the R7 to Indian shores anytime soon.

Another Yamaha sportbike which probably won't come to India.
All we can wait for is the KTM RC 490, and that, would be a reasonably affordable yet exciting twin for our market.

This is one mean looking bike! I have always found the R6 to be a great city superbike. However, its sad to see Yamaha not doing well in India. They have had good products with the likes of R15, FZ16 which were well received in the Indian market but from the last 3-4 years, Yamaha has lost the steam. There were 5-6 showrooms in Gurgaon in 2018 but I guess only 1 is left now. Hope they shake up the top rung and revive the brand in India.

For those who were worried that Yamaha would be watering down the R series with a semi-tourer, there is nothing to be worried about. The seating position is almost the same as the R6 and the body work is super slim. And it comes with preload, compression and rebound adjustable front forks. The numbers on paper may not be impressive but for Indian conditions, this looks like it could be a cracker of a bike. Wake up Yamaha

The R15 was a revolutionary product for its time followed the FZ, when every one wanted to put a fat tyre at the rear on their puney 150cc. But they never actually capitalized further on those products success.

I remember hearing rumors in late 2000's that Yamaha are officially going to start manufacturing spares for the their two stroke models sold in India including the RD 350 and that had our biking community really excited. But in the end nothing actually happened. They still have a decent fan following in India and especially down south. But just like most Japanese manufacturers both cars and bikes they never take India as a serious market ever for reasons best know to them.

2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 First Ride Review

Quote:
The good:

CP2 Engine and its torquey, linear power delivery
Suspension and chassis improvements
$8,999.00 feels like a great deal

The bad:

Could use just a touch more power
Non-switchable ABS
I wish it came in some additional colors

Yamaha has done something remarkable with this bike. It is rewarding to ride and provides a great platform for learning and improvement as a rider.

However, thanks to its excellent chassis and capable suspension, the R7 never really stepped out of line
