Re: Why wasn't the Triumph Speed Twin a success in India?

I don't think Speed Twin was a flop at all, what I know from Kochi Triumph team, Speed Twin was a hot seller. There were many takers for the bike but Triumph India didn't decide to launch it in BS6 avatar. There are many people who are still looking for a used one, and interestingly ready to pay the last on-road price or around it seems. But it's hard to find a speed twin on the second market because anyone who owns one won't sell it. Keep aside the scrambler twins, I would say it's the perfect motorcycle in the Bonneville series.

For those who might be interested in the relatively hard to find used Speed Twin - NS One seems to have one in its stock right now.

Saw it on my insta today morning.

Have you noticed the recent trend in their sales post that they are mentioning the current on-road price sometimes with accessories?

Today the 2021 Speed Twin will be showcased!

Haha. Yes. Sellers will always quote today's MRP and buyers will try to ask for actual invoice value. I think at some level both are relevant but particularly the former. Ultimately, the cost of buying new is not altogether irrelevant when considering a new product. Its also part of the reason why some products like Innova have fetched ridiculous resale prices even after 7 - 8 years when compared to their original invoice values. Similar case for many Isuzu V Cross owners who had bought the early models. Their used steeds have fetched great prices in some cases.

Accessories for bikes rarely fetch value. When I sold my Street Triple, I actually removed my Hepco Becker side bags and sold them separately. I had to sell them at less than half of what I got them for but it was still money in hand. Had I given them away with the bike, it would have fetched NOTHING.

@surjaonwheelz - NS One always does that with current models. I actually asked them why....

Their answer is quite logical. They told me that most of the customers either online / in person put really lowball offers and waste their time. Buyers say that they can get a new bike for Rs 10 lacs (example) so why is the used price Rs 9 lacs. Some want to buy the bike in stock form without the extras and then they want to pay even lower. People come to the shop, ask for test rides, touch the motorbikes and have a good time without buying anything.

They keep this sales price as a sort of benchmark to let interested parties come and see the bikes. If there is room for negotiation, and there always is, they are willing.

I'm interested in getting a used one. This looks like a decent example from the pics. But its in Delhi, would have preferred Karnataka or atleast somewhere closer.

Re: Why wasn't the Triumph Speed Twin a success in India?

I own a 2019 speedtwin delivered to me in october 2019 it was one of the last bs4 speedtwins on sale in India. By no means it was a flop. The first lot was sold within 5 months with a few bikes selling in march 2020 (?test ride bikes). Many of my friends who tried to book after me didnt get the chance to buy it as there was no stock left. After riding it over 12000kms I can say only one thing IT'S A HOOT TO RIDE. I will write my ownership experience in a seperate thread. Here's a photo of my red hooligan.
